Palestinian gunmen and Israeli troops exchanged fire at Joseph's Tomb in Nablus in the West Bank on Tuesday, ending a tentative cease-fire that lasted barely half a day and threatening hopes of reviving Mideast peace.
Heavily armed Palestinian gunmen returning from a funeral joined protestors and fired on the Israeli outpost at Joseph's Tomb, drawing return fire - some of the heaviest so far.
The violence, has claimed more than 50 lives so far - mostly Palestinian.
World leaders have criticized Israel's hawkish opposition leader Ariel Sharon, whose visit on Thursday to a hotly contested Jerusalem shrine triggered the fighting.
