West Hams £40m bid for Kilman accepted by Wolves | Lopetegui will get his top transfer target

West Ham are on the verge of completing a £40m deal to bring in Wolves captain Max Kilman.
The Hammers had a £25m bid turned down for the defender last month.
However, it appears certain their persistence will pay off with Wolves set to accept the latest offer, which would allow Kilman to complete his move.
It will reunite him with former Wolves boss Julen Lopetegui, who has replaced David Moyes at the London Stadium.
West Ham technical director Tim Steidten said earlier this week he anticipated it would be a "busy" summer for the club.
Crucially, he also confirmed West Ham had no profit and sustainability issues thanks to the £105m sale of Declan Rice last summer.
Kilman, 27, joined Wolves in 2018 from Maidenhead United.
The centre-back had to wait until May 2019 before making his debut for the club against Fulham.

I know we all criticise sullivan and have had a lot of complaints regarding spending, but sullivan has always given managers money and is obviously running the club very well and we are in this position to pay 40mill plus for players players and are within the spending rules especially when you look at other clubs, so well done Mr sullivan

Not as much as expected should have been £8m 20% Fee but Wolves have twisted Maidenhead's arm to take 10% so giving £4m back to Wolves.

If Zouma and Aguerd cost £30m how much should an established, English, Premier League player, who is at a peak age for the position he plays in and also captain of his current club, be worth? Great news for the club and I am thrilled Lopetgui got his man! ⚒️ About time the club took the defensive positions seriously, instead of looking at razzle-dazzle crap from abroad. RB I guess is next on the agenda, followed by an AM and CF.

I think it’s an excellent signing & the going rate imo for a good aged English proven experienced player and captain!… We paid £30m for Aguerd & nobody bat & eyelid, look how that turned out 🤷‍♂️… It’s all well & good saying there are better options value wise, that is only true if those players turn out to be good, otherwise its not good value, that’s the risk! ..Kilman pretty much does what it says on the tin!… What is the going rate for a proven experienced premier league CB who’s captain!… These are not door numbers after all, prices change year on year!

The fee is inflated a) because it is a British player b) Wolves don't really want to sell him and c) Maidenhead are due 15-20% of the profit. If we can offset it by selling Aguerd for >£30m it won't seem so bad will it?

Kilman has one ace up his sleeve which our other centre backs don't posses. He can play on either the right or left and with both feet which is another bonus. The guy has pace, height and great awareness to what's going on around him. We have lacked this in any of our centre backs to date.

I watched Kilman a few times for Wolves and he was always solid. Weird seeing so many fans turn their noses up. He's better than all our defenders comfortably. I doubt he'll concede 74 goals lol.

If we get Todibo, walker-peters for downes, jota silva and anyone of the unit type strikers we’ve been linked with, Lopetegui has everything he needs to push for Europe this season which excites me because then we will get to see how good of a manager he is.

@@damiandamico4715 either would suit me but I think jota has more creativity and is less direct which suits lopetegui but also the balance of the team with Bowen and Kudus being very direct. Personally I’d be quite happy with any of the strikers just as long as we can get a decent financial deal because I feel Antonio will play a big part next season and it will probably be his last season. Therefore we will need to buy another striker next season in any case. If whoever we buy works out we can spend less money, if not we can afford to spend more as long as we sign someone cheaper this year.

@@slimface6188 I think Lopetegui would be willing to use Potts, orford and Earthy as rotation options to compliment Soucek, Alvarez, Ward-prowse and Paqueta but if not I think we should just loan someone or get someone on the cheap. Midfield isn’t in as much need of upgrade as other areas and I think we need to be smart with how we get depth for this year. Next year that could be an area of potential improvement

I would’ve preferred Todibo personally. Has a higher ceiling, seems more talented. Kilman for that price seems too much. Seems like the English tax is being applied for an average player.

Maidenhead have agreed to reduce fee % from 20 to 10 to secure more money for Wolves who for second time stitch them up after only paying £40k initially telling Maidenhead he was for their under 21 side. Basically Wolves have twisted their arm and Maidenhead have bottled it.

I think West Ham have lacked a defensive leader/communicator since the sale of Dec and whilst I don’t think Kilman is anywhere near the footballer rice was, I think he will bring that organisation. I think he’s worth between 25/30mil on talent as a homegrown player, but the extra ten mil comes from his leadership qualities. He’s also left footed and is used to playing with an attacking left full back so I think he’ll work well with Emerson and I think his communication will really bring the best out of Mavropanos. What’s most exciting to me is that I reckon we would have budgeted 50 million for 2 centrebacks, not including sales from that department. Therefore, I reckon we’ll push to get 20-25 mil for Aguerd who seems destined to leave and use the remaining 30-35 mil to get Todibo who excites me because of his actual playing ability and potential to become elite with more experience.

Agree with your points on Kilman and the manager getting his man. Also think its time for Tim to get smart and pick up some deals like Sugawara for RB and potential market value in J. Silva. Both could be had for under 30m and fill holes in our starting 11. Wouldnt mind En-Nesyri in up top if hes around for 17ish too. Loving this positivity and loving more that its being done early!

I've watched kilman pretty much every game since he broke into the team. He's very good in a back 3 with a experienced leader next to him. Coady for example and Dawson but he's not a natural leader of the back line and he's struggled everytime that we attempted to play a back 4. 40m is alot but if you're playing a back 3 then it will be a great signing.

I'm assuming that the Aguerd sale will probably move quite fast now we're about to sign a left side Center back for a lot of money that has to be first choice. Killman would also allow Tim to be a bit more "creative" and take a bit more of a risk with the next Center back we sign.

I hope this works out. Seen a fair few Wolves say he’s a good CB but not very good in a back 4. Does that mean we’re playing a 3? Fwiw, a fairly bang on ITK on KUMB said a few minutes ago that Soule and Walker Peters are the next on the list. Re: Aguerd, do people think he has devalued that much? I think he’s a good player, but was simply in the completely wrong system with Moyes. I think we should ask for and expect to receive what we paid for him.

I get a good feeling. If J-Lo sees him as a Captain, that is what WH was missing last season. if J-Lo provides the Vision, and Kilman directs the execution, we could have a great team on our hands.

Vastly overpriced imo so not great business financially but as the coaches number one target this should be the foundation of the window. It feels like we have already broken the back of the window early, the main piece of the puzzle is in place and we can build around it, not just in new recruits but in letting Aguard and/or Zouma go. It’s like when your mate dates someone you don’t think is right, try to put your own misgivings aside and just be happy he is happy and pray it don’t end in tears.

Sorry, I just can't ignore the price given the limited transfer budget we apparently have and thus can only deem this a poor signing. I get that the manager wants him and the positive spin made on that in this video, but Moyes wanted Philips as one example as to why that is not always a good thing. All in all,personally, I find this a depressing start to the window. Clearly, he will be judged over time, and let's hope he proves a good signing, but just can't see it right now. Winners in this are Maidenhead and Wolves.

im not a west ham fan. im a newcastle fan but could kabore be a target for a right back? i understand hes very very attacking but that is what the modern fullback is (apart from city and arsenal)

Lopetegui is putting his credibility on the line with this Kilman signing, many believe there maybe better CB’s for £40m, others that he’s not worth that figure. If this move falls flat on his face and we do a Moyes and can’t get any of our money back, I don’t believe the board will back his recommendations.

@@ultra5057 Lopetegui came in with a big reputation but to many, myself included, wasn’t the first choice because of his actions at Wolves so close to the start of the season. He obviously felt he needed to prove himself in the PL, hence why he stayed around, but I didn’t hear his name being linked to any other opportunity. WH have given him this opportunity, Steidten, another with a reputation, also needs to prove himself, these types of people seek the glory and any employer is a means of reaching the top, look at Dan Ashworth, got a position with England, built the reputation at Brighton, head hunted by Newcastle now poached by MU, I presume he has done very nicely with his pay packet since being a PT teacher before joining England in 2013. Lopetegui makes a mistake with us, he will find it very difficult to find another opportunity, he’s no José Mourinho. After hearing the recent Tim & Julen presser, I’m confident they will make this ‘project’ work, and if we are dragged along with their personal success, I’m happy to see were that takes us as well.

10 Prem matches. If he does well in those matches and there aren’t glaring mistakes, then I’ll think he’s a good signing. If we have a losing record after 10 matches and he’s started all those matches and made glaring mistakes, then I’ll say he’s a bad signing. At this moment, I’m indifferent and will need to see him play consecutively in 10 matches under Lop’s West Ham system to pass judgement.

kilman is massively over hated by our own fans, every goal the opposition score was his fault. As someone who watched him week in week out i can confirm he is a good player; left footed, good on the ball, slow on the turn but quick when going. He was comfortably our best center back and i never understood the agenda, i genuinely believe he’s good enough to be in the england squad.

Makes me laugh everyone is an expert on Kilman & judging him before he kicks a ball Because he’s not a striker or a flying winger he’s not worth the money He’s the main player Lopetegui wants, & wants him as captain, so we have to trust in him & Tim. Let them do their work & bring in players we desperately need.

I would rather see West Ham sell jelly knees first before Aguerd, and with Emerson likley to be moving on , surley Aguerd could do a job as a full back? Dont give Southampton Flynn Downes, a valuable squad player. They can take Danny Ings, get him off the books.
