@@eckankar7756 Not true. I was born and live here. I have traveled and lived in many states. I missed my home of West Virginia. It is a gorgeous outdoor recreation area. The scenery is just lovely. Where I live in the north, it has a few steel mills left, gas wells everywhere. I live close to Pitts Pa and Ohio. So many options to choose from. The ppl here, are warm, welcoming and kind in West Virginia.

At this point, West Virginia is just trying to bring a few thousand people into the state economy as it hemorrhages residents. People who work remotely tend to work in lucrative tech/finance/consulting positions and their state income/sales tax proceeds could go a long way toward helping others in the state. This is something the state should have undertaken YEARS ago. It could have been something to stem the current of West Virginians streaming out-of-state, but now it's a desperation move. The stakes are much, much higher now. I hope it works..

I think the people most likely to be enticed by the program would be more likely to live in cities like Clarksburg, Charleston or Martinsburg, where connectivity is comparable with just about anywhere else, at least one interstate highway feeds through and a commercial airport is within an hour drive. Some will want to live in the sticks, but that comes at the cost of certain lifestyle encumberments.

I am black and from this state not by choice but my parents both moved here in college and never left. However, the state was getting better but has now fallen off. I hate seeing so many bad comments about my state. There are great and wonderful people here but it is a dying economy. It’s a beautiful state it is. There’s not much culture or diversity in the state for people of color. Jobs are here but probably not jobs people want. I have found on my hunt for a new job that the better jobs with better pay mostly require experience to some degree and a higher education degree. This state could do better with infrastructure yes and could do more to keep young adults in the state. I also work remotely now and it has been better for me. However, there’s still more that needs to be done. It’s not the most appealing state, no. I admit some areas are better to be than others for someone of color but do not be afraid to travel here or travel through. For the most part everyone keeps to themselves and they won’t bother you if you don’t bother them.

Unfortunately after the chemical spill fiasco, most of the chemical companies are leaving. I've moved back here twice with jobs and companies have moved again trying to get out of the regulations. We are about to build a couple million dollar plant with a dozen near 6 figure jobs and just the thought of going through the red tape to put it here canned the idea. Without coal and the chemical industry, WV is going to see much darker days. I'll of course have to leave again but I'll come back to retire.

Lol that would have to mean Manchin would need to stop distracting methods to point the American public that his daughter, who he "Aunt Becky"'d to a degree 3x as bad as "Aunt Becky" did to her child (see: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/West_Virginia_University_M.B.A._controversy), buying her the position of CEO of the American pharmaceutical company who is the leading manufacturer of name brand hydroxychloroquin in form of Plaquenil. The company is Mylan. And she was the same Mylan CEO who ran the cost up for epi pens 1300% over night a couple years ago and giving herself a 5 digit pay raise and left people dead from anaphylaxis...aka the main concern for severe complications of the COVID19 vaccines. And then he would have to address the fact that his daughter "retired" two months ago while not having someone replace her as CEO. Then have to face the fact that Mylan announced last week that it was closing all locations in WV and PA, leaving tens of thousands of Americans unemployed over night, and moving all operations overseas. Yet, NO ONE is reporting on that. Manchin's only concerned about distraction from the fact that he and his Mylan CEO daughter killed tens of thousands of wv jobs and moved overseas, after making bank off the back of hydroxychloroquin.

I grew up in a large, upper middle class family in the northern panhandle (Wheeling). It was genuinely a really good childhood and while Wheeling is by no means a big city, it’s not a tiny place either, it has a lot, good community, it’s beautiful, and it’s an hour from Pittsburgh and two from Columbus. Many of the neighborhoods are full of 100 year old Victorian homes and I lots of kids to play with and really amazing schools. My public high school genuinely was one of the best high schools with incredible opportunities and facilities. And I say all this from my West Virginia University campus. Im living in Morgantown now. It’s a beautiful and great area as well. I love WVU, and I can’t begin to act like this state sucks. But while there are these great things, I see the limited opportunities. I see that as a future teacher I will make very little. There is * a lot * of poverty here. I grew up in an area of WV with much less poverty than say, southern WV, but it’s still everywhere. There is a culture of racism and bigotry greater here than other areas of the country. It’s not a perfect place. Is it a shut hole like many people claim? No. It’s not. There’s a lot of nuance to WV. And I would like to see it improve.

I am not a West Virginia politician so as far as I am concerned WV don't want people coming here that have the hatered that I see on most of these comments. It is clear to me that a lot of you either don't understand or just don't like country people. Just remember this the citizens of WV open their arms to people who want to retire here in our bueatifiul state and fit in. But we do not want those who criticize our way of life and tell those worn out old WV jokes. We have heard them all. We are kind, friendly people but we believe in our way of life which includes God, family, freedom, love of country, police, military, our guns and our flag. We are not crazy racist people we treat everyone with respect when they show it to us. If you don't like us drive around our state or straight through it.

So I looked at Air BnB for a three month stay in Morganstown, the option (with a pet) was a crappy little cottage for 17,000. for three months. This program wont work unless someone is willing to rent in town, not buy. The have the same housing inflation as most of the country right now, too bad.

I get frustrated seeing these stories about WV because they always show rolling hills, running streams, a small town, people working on a farm, etc. We have other things in WV too! We have buildings, cities, new housing, apartment complexes, bike trails, Uber, and even Bird scooters! We are not just sitting in poverty waiting for the “new city folk” to move in to save us. We have the infrastructure- good schools, wealthy banks, lavish resorts with golf and skiing, excellent hospitals, doctors, and dentists! Yes, I typed all this on an iPhone 14 connected to broadband internet. I love our rolling hills and rivers but hate always being typecast as just natural beauty. We are so much more than just a country song.

So, you want to help wealthy people with marketable skills move there. Here’s an idea, help the thousands of poor people who already live there obtain these skills.

Why don't they educate their own citizens to do the remote work, thus reduce unemployment in the area. Vermont's doing the same thing, yet many locals don't have decent jobs.

They VOTE against their own interest. The politicians true goal is to keep them stupid and uneducated for a reason. To keep in power and cash grab everything. Simple, really. Happens a lot in the South.

That's what I'm thinking too. Say a remote position doesn't work out...it looks pretty desolate and any place offering money to move there means they most likely can't keep people there for reasons only the long term residents may know. 🤔

None, thats why they trying to bribe folks to move there, start businesses and pay taxes. Gotta wonder why most businesses STAY AWAY or MOVE AWAY in the first place. Also consider why there's such a BRAIN DRAIN from that State.

@Anthony Lee I went to school there for 4 years. I held jobs while I was there. I have a bunch of friends who are resident. Healthcare is always looking for more people but they don’t ever get enough people to apply. Morgantown is more economical stable than a bunch other cities due to the university.

It’s actually a double edged sword. It is a great time to move to WV or a cheaper state but eventually, salaries will lower. Example: An accounting firm will not pay you 6 figures as a tax associate in nyc if you end up relocating in Kentucky. There will be a correction in salaries. What you think you may end up saving in taxes, there will be a loss in salaries. Google already announced they will cut salaries to your real standard of living based on where you live which makes sense. You won’t pay a software engineer in New Delhi India the same as someone in the US even tho the company is only located in the US. It’s not fair to the company.

Meanwhile WV is doing nothing for the people who live there. The small number who move there will not offset the numbers leaving . WV has the highest paid representatives in the country, and they are not worried about fixing its economy or education system. Most people think of WV as a poor state , however our resources such as timber , coal , natural gas , oil , glass , steel and its power plants have been vital to our countries infrastructure. Many have came and plundered and put nothing back into the state such as Jay Rockefeller. Nothig will change .

"Ascend West Virginia should start with West Virginians" 5:58 I agree with the notion that the state needs to help its own blood. The unfortunate fact is that the long term strategy that has a better pay off is to attract new blood into the state into coming and eventually injecting more into the state economy. You need all of those people who already have the high salaries to help bring dollars into the state, which in turn would allow the state to create programs to help more people down the road. The politician talking about "WV first" is too short sighted.

Who am I kidding though. That Senator only wants his votes now. Probably needs thick reading glasses in order to read the writing on the wall on what would give the state a better future years after he is gone from office.
