I've worked with diesel trucks for about 6 years and i currently work at a semi truck dealership and all we work with are diesel motors. This video is a GREAT reference for anyone out there looking at a used diesel truck. Diesels are awesome! But there's a lot that can go bad on the engines, especially with the newer aftertreatment systems on them. They can be a blessing and a curse. Stay informed and know what you're spending your money on! Awesome tips Westen Champlin!

There should be some pressure in the radiator after running the engine a bit. but like you said, there shouldn't be bubbles or instant high pressure after starting. Take along a pressure tester. connect it to a cold radiator (don't pressurize it) and run the engine and see how fast pressure builds on the gauge.

This was really useful and informative. There should be a class action lawsuit against the EPA, and oil companies for damage to consumer goods due to emmissions controls. I'm saying fuel companies because they could make much cleaner burning fuel that would not require more than a catalytic converter.
@ianvisser7899 Жыл бұрын
Yeah, no. Oil and fuel companies arent liable. At the end of the day, they produce A product, that you CHOOSE to use. Nobody is forcing you to use Shell premium unleaded, or Diesel... Nor are they ramming oil down your throat. You choose what you run your car on and as such, you are liable for what you put into your car. For instance, if you top up with dirty fuel and it grenades your motor, it's not their fault. Sure, you might feel it's their fault, but nowhere does it state that they are selling you clean fuel. The only time you have even the slightest chance of suing a gas company, is when the product sold to you was not the product you received. What I mean by that, is if you bought and paid for Diesel, they used the diesel hose (important, because you are responsible for them using the right hose) and it dispensed petrol. But even then, you can use the gas station, not the gas company. The only people liable in your hypothetical lawsuit, would be the government. The automotive manufacturers are in the clear too, because government regulation dictates that they must have those emission devices in place and although they have a warranty on their engines for 100k miles, nowhere do they guarantee that every engine will last that long as there are countless factors at play to achieve that. So end of the day, your lawsuit would have no grounds and it would be dismissed in a court of law before you even set foot in the door.

Make sure a diesel truck has matching batteries. If they've been replaced one at a time, use that as a negotiating piece. Bad batteries take out everything around them. Alternator/starter/batteries on a diesel get expensive
@ridingwiththereids5 жыл бұрын
@@stuartgergen830 that doesn't make any sense. So you owned the truck, and then "someone" leased it, and THEN "someone" put "car batteries in it"??? Lol, what in the f@wk does that even mean?

You gave some good advice it’s very good for a novice. The worst thing for for these modern diesels is using them as grocery getters short hops stop and go not getting them up to running temperature shutting them down etc. that’s what screws up emissions systems and put a hurt on the engine. Diesels are meant to work and drive deleting them is the only way to go, except now the EPA is on to this and the companies making delete kits are being messed with.
