Great vid, I remember back in 2010 four of us attempted Federation Peak, we got within 100m from the summit and made the call to turn back, what I am saying is KNOW YOUR LIMITS, this area is beautiful but it will hurt you very quickly.

Great & informative list. It’s serious out there. I hope people watch & take notice. FEB 2023 I completed a full traverse of both Western & Eastern Arthur Ranges. Anticipated 12-15 days traverse, weather dependent. It rained at least once & often heavily & prolonged in every 24hr period except 1, almost always accompanied by strong winds. We ended up completing in 14 days…11 days walking & 3 days waiting out weather in tent, 1 day at Lake Cygnus & 2 days at Hanging Lake. Then an additional day waiting at Farmhouse Creek for our shuttle bus pickup as we’d had no ph reception last 5 days to alter our pickup date. Carried 16 days of food to cover all eventualities. It’s only through extensive experience over yrs of walking that you learn about yourself & your gear & how to manage both so multi day trips are successful, safe & enjoyable. Thk you for sharing an important messsge.

Hey Mowser, I did the Western Arthurs way back in the early 90's and it was one of the most memorable and toughest hikes I have ever done. The track notes were invaluable back then as few people did the traverse. We had a rope and it was needed to haul our packs up through a narrow rock chimney. We had 40 deg C on the day you must get from campsite to campsite as there is nowhere in between to camp and no water - we carried 4 lts of water each that day and need every bit. A few days later we were up at Mt Field and it was snowing! There was no one else we saw going to/from the traverse or going to Easter Arthurs, sound so different today. I'm going back in February to experience a heap of day walks this time with my son, hopefully it won't be like "Bourke street".

That would have been crazy in the 90s. No tent platforms that’s for sure! At least there weren’t in the eastern Arthurs then. Enjoy your time back here. There may be a few people about but sometimes you can get lucky. Especially if you head off early in the day! Have a great time!

@@mowsertas no duckboards no tent platforms. Two of the others I did the WAT with had tried the EAT a few years earlier but they had a terrible time across the Arthur plains and then more wet weather persisted and they aborted when they were running short of time. EAT is still on my bucket list but not sure if I will ever get to do it.

Hey Mowser, great WAT vids. You go pretty easy on the Park's registration system. I'd be wanting to tell peeps 'don't get your hopes up on a tent platform (even if you've registered)'. Imagine getting into camp at 5pm on your last drop of energy and no place to setup your tent.

Thanks Mark, Thanks! Glad you enjoy the vids! Yep I have heard of this circumstance. And that is obviously a result of people not voluntarily registering and heading in anyway. It’s a touchy subject but while I hate it they definitely need some sort of system for these increasingly popular walks. Have discussed it with many rangers and it is very hard to manage. Not sure what will end up happening but my advice to anyone would be to be prepared to camp in any conditions and not be reliant on tent platforms. Lake Oberon is notorious for this problem. We were expecting to be camping in button grass at pass creek but were overjoyed to find platforms. They are a nice luxury! See you out on the track!

@@mowsertas yes did EAT less than month ago. Pass Ck was pumping...only just made it across. Spending lots money on Luckmans that prob sees 5% of Arthur Range traffic. I wont walk WAT again until they fix rego system or double tent platforms. Heading back EAT next March.
