With global rugby on pause, Real Rugby endeavors to take our fans down memory lane. We have had a lot of requests for this type of video and we will feature more teams in future. In this week's video, we look back at some great tries scored by Western Province during the 1970's and 1980's. These tries were originally seen on 101 Tryline Tales and Tryline Tales 2.

Ray Mordt and Carel Du Plessis - agree he should have been a Bok - but who do exclude form those 2 wings which would probably be walk ins in the current Bok squad

Great wing. It was just unlucky that there were two of the best SA wings of all time already in contention: Mordt and Carel Du Plessis.

@@RealRugby do you perhaps have any video footage from Chris Burger who played for WP from 1974 to 1980? He tragically died after he broke his neck during a WP vs OVS match 30 Aug 1980! It's 40 years later and we would love to show his grandkids some footage! It would really mean the world to me and his daughter who I'm married to 🙏🙏

Position he played. If you can mail me some more info to werner@realrugby.co.za then it will make the search easier

@@RealRugby thanks Werner I appreciate and will speak to my mother in law and some of his old team mates to get some more info. He was an all rounder and played fly-half, centre and fullback for WP

The old Springbokpark stadium in Bloemfontein must have had the hardest pitch in rugby history. How those guys played on that week in and week out I don't know (see around 12:30).

That try against Ntvl where he dodged about 6 players. I stand corrected, but Wasn't it where he also stumbled over his own feet while running back to the halfway line. It was a fifty fifty moment. The Wp supporters in the room went bananas while the Ntvl lads got a good chuckle out of it.

I'm 65 now and I was at Newlands that day, sitting on the Railway stand, right where Chris Pope scored the first of Western Province's two tries. That's a day I'll remember for the rest of my life.

Stands in stark contrast to the sh-te that the game served up in England at this time. It was a different sport. I played at London Welsh in the very late 70s and early 80s and can really lock into what is going on here. It was fun. Then Welsh rugby fell away and that was it for me. No further interest. In the 90s the English game was completely different. It took the Welsh game a bit longer, but I was an old fart by then...

As a WP supporter it definetly was a great era of rugby , but apartheid messed it all up. 😌

i think we lost a lot of great potential springboks because of it..who knows how many other Kolisi's, Mapimpi's and Kolbe's there were in our history

@@lm_b5080 just bare in mind we did have a better win record against NZ in that era, we don't have now. So it's something to think about. Rugby is all about performance and winning and we did all of that. So there is no doubt that the best players was picked. The results proof that. We have lost that record now so questions may be raised are we picking the best now?
