I’ve had my W49 Bowie since 1981, has the sheath that’s in that picture with the dangler. This is one of my most cherished knifes, that’s a good trade

I was given one of these knives new in the 80's, there is no sharpening stone on the sheath. It's a beauty of a knife, although mine also has the pitting on the blade. My wife and I used it to cut our wedding cake in '95, I'll never sell it. Probably..

What a great knife Jerry I have the Bear and Son copy of it and it’s a nice wall hanger along with my black powder rifles and deer rack But I would love to get my hands on a Western Bowie

Bear N Sons makes replacement sheath for their gold rush Bowie which Is is identical to the 49. Pirce is reasonable also. I own 7 49s and a 47 and 45. My favorite Bowie .

Western did not put a sharpening stone on their Bowie sheaths, there was not an “N” date code as there was a surplus of “M” code blades and we were shutting down - no sense in making blades you’re not going to build. The BX 54 used a hidden half tang construction. A stainless steel version was made with jigged bone design delrin scales, there was a private run of ten stainless bowie blades in 1989 commissioned by myself and another employee with the stainless Bowie tang stamp and a serial number on the file side.

Thanks for the information and checking out the video. I corrected my mistake towards the end of the video stating the sheaths didn't come with the stone, i must had seen an aftermarket one on Ebay!! Very cool that you commissioned these great blades!!

Do you know what steel these used? I read it was a Sharon steel CV steel, i forgot the designation. I had an M code and I don’t know what happened to it, I had a bunch of stuff stolen last summer, but i miss this one most. Bought it on clearance for $49.99 in August 1991 when I guess Western was going out of business. Shame. These were some of the best Bowie knives ever. If mine doesn’t come up I will certainly buy another one.

I've always been curious how good they are at stabbing I know they're great for slashing but what about stabbing I've always wanted to know because the clip point is so short I don't think it would do very well

I love Western Wednesday! Welcome to the world of the 49 brother I have 2 also actually just purchased them a month or two ago. One is a D (80) the other is like yours Western USA on one side of the Guard & W 49 on the other, if you have trouble locating a sheath I will gladly send you one to have someone copy it for you if need be. Do you have a email I could get in touch with you at? I Also just purchased some Western items that may make you poop your pantys, would love to send you pictures of them when I get them in. Anyway nice-looking blades brother you got some elbows to use up good luck!
