I have the same model, bought it about 5 or 6 years ago. I’m weird and prefer to manually start it using the choke and pull cord, so I pay no attention to the battery or remote. I too change the oil every year or two, as it doesn’t get much use but did recently for 18 hours during an outage! I’m crazy and keep about 50 gallons of gas stored in 5 gallon VP Racing plastic fuel jugs, a mix of non ethanol and standard gas depending on my money situation at the time of replenishing, all stabilized with the same stuff you use. No biggie to rotate it through cars as you do. I’ve found it can last up to 3 years in that state. Great generator, hoping we get many more years of service! Nice video. God bless!

I have the same Generator. Had it for about 2 years now and it works like day one. Just make sure to keep up with the maintenance.

I'm two years late, but I gotta say I love Surecan. I have 4 of them. Two that I bought at the same time developed a crack at the same spot. I called them and even though the warranty was expired they were happy to send me two new ones. The newest version are great and fixed all the issues I had with the first. And the first were still multitudes better than any other can I've had besides a good ol steel jerrycan.

Great information about the battery

I recommend getting you some VIP, 5 gallon jugs. They work awesome. They don’t leak at all. And when you put a vinyl tube on the breathing port, you’ll never spill any pouring gas out. My store my generator dry. And I started every six months works great. That way I don’t have to worry about stable or stale gas. Just cycled them through your car like you mentioned every two or three months.

They're great generators, use mine daily, ive had few problems, fuel pump failed so its now gravity fed but being a mechanic its no big deal. On 3rd set of brushes but they're meant to wear out. Had to polish my slip rings with 2000 grit paper then 3M scotch pad.

Sta-bil for stabilizing gasoline in the Generator Do Work Great..... Even 2-3 years in my Generator. It surprised me When I started After around 3 years with One pull and it starts right Up...... only 1/2 tank full tho 😂👍

Did you have to unbond the neutral before attaching to your transfer switch to the home? I know it comes neutral bonded to ground and am wondering if I need to unbond it if I will only be using it for home backup through the transfer switch to my panel.

I'd be interested in getting your thoughts on this type of generator (traditional). Some people are now claiming this traditional style of generator will harm your electronics and you need a newfangled (more expensive) inverter generator instead. I am suspecting this is more about marketing than any real danger in most circumstances, but what do you think?

I do have a question. when storing the generator for several months. While the generator is running do you shut off the fuel valve and let it burn its remaining fuel ? or is a correct way to do this?

The non-ethanol gas you use is the reason you can go a year before needing fresh gas. If you use E10 fuel then I wouldn't keep it past 6 months and that's with stabilizer. Sta-bil makes a fuel stabilizer named Sta-bil 360 that is for ethanol fuel specifically and keeps fuel fresh for up to 12 months, from what I've seen the 360 fights corrosion better than most. I still wouldn't keep E10 fuel for longer than 6 months even with the 360. I usually run my equipment once a month and keep E10 fuel for between 4 to 5 months before transferring it to my car and running fresh fuel through my carb. I'm in California and have to deal with the stupid Ethanol nonsense.

my westinghouse has 20 hrs. it cranks and does not start. the battery goes dead and i have to jump start it. any ideas?

Some more clues. I've had my df9500 for two years. I use only nonethnol. There's no need for fuel stabilizer. Non ethanol is free of water. Fuel stabilizer does not ensure water free (lots of KZfaq's proving this). It's will actually gum up the carb. I test mine monthly for 10 minutes then run it dry of gas (turn off the fuel valve while running.) The carb is empty not sitting with gas. Test it once a year with house hookup under a load. I use a magnet oil dip stick checking it after running. Change the oil after 24hrs or before possible use.

I have this same generator that I bought 2 years ago. It has less than 10 hours run time. I let it sit for too long and am having problems starting it now. I can pull start it if I spray carb cleaner in the air filter area but it won't stay running. 1. Any idea how to keep it running? Once the choke closes it dies. If I manually open the choke it will stay running but I don't know if it is a good idea to keep the choke open. 2. The battery is now charged but it doesn't crank over. Could the starter be bad? Can that be replaced?

What should you do when you havent used sll the gas in the generator for more than a year or so ? Pump it out ?

i have to disagree about running a generator in the rain and snow. i've been doing it for 2 years! i have the Wgen7500DF, been mostly running on LP. it's been pretty good

Oh great didnt know I could use a trickle battery charger.

Battery charger from Westinghouse is 0.35amp. That is a super low capacity trickle charger that isn't going to overcharge the battery. Battery tender jr. is 0.75amp It it's float/maintain mode, what do you think it's rate of charge goes down to? You'll never know as that into is not in the specs. It's kind of a moot point anyway as these little 12 volt utility brick batteries only last 2-3 years before they die. Turn on the choke and pull the rope. You'll be suprised how easy these generators start with good fuel and a clean carb.

I got tired of messing around with those little generator batteries. Even with the battery tender they only last 3-4 years. I got a pair of jumper cables and use my car to jump start my generator.

They don't work at all.when I've used mine It spills right down the side.

Regarding your advice to not store the engine with no fuel in carb as it will dry out and leak.........Then explain to us why millions of brand new engines with small to tiny carbs dont have orings and carb/needle seats dry out while they are waiting for months to years before they are sold. Why do you think almost all new small engines come with a carb drain plug. Ya, it's for off season storage. Lord help you if you get one of those new engines with plastic carbs and/or plastic cartridge for hi and low speed jets. Gas so bad Briggs & Stratton went with a throwaway just replace entire carb desing. Trust the owner's manuals, not me. LONG TERM STORAGE Even properly stabilized fuel can leave residue and cause corrosion if left long term. If storing the generator for two to six months, drain the float bowl to prevent gum and varnish buildup in the carburetor. The fuel in carb bowl will evaporate and leave deposits that will F up the needle/seat so it floods out next time you use it. Been there done that got the t-shirt! p.s. use Seafoam instead of Sta-Bil. You'll be much happeir as it lasts way longer. You're correct, Sta-Bil is only good for a year or so.
