Everybody needs a raise because of what Trudeau has done for Canada. High inflation and high cost of leaving.

When onex came in, JS was on and on about how westjet was going to retrench as a "western airline" with the good will it had there. Hiwever, they took the most motivated workforce, and laid them all off, then offered to hire them back for 40% less.(but you get reduced travel, no good if you can't afford even that) . The new workers caused many delays, further eroding confidence.

They said it was over a couple of days ago. How long before they change their minds again and strike again. I have a flight out west with westjet in 11 days. No matter whether that flight is affected by any additional strike action, I will never fly WestJet again after that trip.

maybe WJ, should prioritize paying the people that make it possible for them to fly people around for money = the last person in an air transportation equation, to not get paid are the MECHANICS, who determine whether you LIVE or DIE, while using airplanes

WestJet trump card was Shameless O’Regan who gave them falls hope and made it worse. Counting on Shameless O’Regan denying Aircraft Maintenance Engineers their constitutional right to strike. A Labour Minister ignorant of the law outsmarted by American Lawyers of AMFA. Forcing arbitration on workers voting NO 97.25% who had not a chance to present the reason on rejection and smearing the Union and workers as being paid fairly. When those engineers sign an aircraft maintenance release his or her faith against lawsuits and jail time is always on their minds in case of accidents

There should be no strike or go slow for any employees private or govt that are in the service of the people and that can have larger impact on nations' finances. Find a way to be fair to people and all sides. People's presence should be mandatary.

If they cancel again or strike again or do literally anything else I’m contacting the consulate here and going to contact every media agency with my story cuz I’m sure I’m not the only one

This former COO SAID they should’ve not been allowed to strike? This is not communist china, they have the RIGHT to strike. WestJet was dragging it out saying it was illegal strike even after it was assured they had that right. But wanting CIRB to bail them out instead of going to the table where the Union was waiting and begging them to go back to. Two European leaders that doesn’t know Canadian Law belittling the Union As Rogue American Union disrespecting them as the union chosen by the employees… Seems the Americans know more about Canadian law than the WestJet Lawyers did. 😂😂😂

I can't refuse to work until I get my own way! Striking is a PRIVILEGE NOT A RIGHT, one that's repeatedly abused! It would only be a right if everyone could do it! And this privilege was granted over a century ago to solve a problem that no longer exists and would not be law today! They make close to 100 grand with huge benefits and perks. And people are seriously implying that we need to give them more money because they keep the planes safe? So it would be okay for them to not do their jobs properly, literally killing people if they don't get their huge raises? And they were offered a 23% raise, on top of their nearly six figures, one est is 109,000, well above average. They're disrupting people's travel and lives to indulge greed!

@@carolyn3172 you have no idea lol Union wouldn’t have been brought in if WJ treated its employees properly in the first place. Instead corporate greed set a precedent and caused many to people to quit before this all started. Wages across the entire aircraft maintenance industry and at WJ in particular were falling way behind. Change was desperately needed just retain the AME’s they had left. And before you say something stupid like “just hire more”, there AREN’T anymore. The talent pipeline is dryer than it’s ever been because people don’t want a stressful job that pays less than what your average automotive mechanic makes. The rhetoric that’s been thrown out regarding wages is wrong. Fast forward to a few months ago. WestJet left the table, strike notice issued. WestJet comes back, strike averted, talks resume. Fast forward to a week ago. Union stood their ground and WJ didn’t like that. They cried and played victim in front of the media and then ran to the fed to push the CIRB to impose back to work legislation. CIRB pushed arbitration instead at which point WJ left the table (again). Strike notice was issued again followed by a lockout by WJ. The union was legally within their rights to strike. WJ played dirty. The union called their bluff, and won. The timing is unfortunate but it was the result of a chess move instigated by WJ, not the union. This is not greed, this is standing up for what you deserve. The deal they won will make such a tiny dent to WJ’s balance sheet, but it’s anyone’s guess as to how much it will affect executive bonuses! These guys don’t work 9-5 Monday to Friday. Days, nights, holidays, 10-12 shifts….whatever the schedule calls for. Anybody who has a clue what’s going on here is tired of hearing people like you complain. Nobody cares what you “think” they should be paid. This has been a long time coming. You wonna boycott WJ? Then do it because of upper managements attitude.

@@alexg9727 you mean ESSENTIAL service jobs, that YOU need, to know when you get on a plane, they're SAFE + when you ride on a BUS/TRAIN, they're safe = MECHANICS are the last people, who should get disrespected by their employer, otherwise, you might die, simply taking a ride or flying = if you don't like that, then you should invent a machine, that you trust, to do their jobs

No, we need to make sure that executives actually know what they are doing and bargain in good faith, instead of kicking and screaming to the media and the fed when they don’t get what they want and walk away from the table multiple times. AMFA took the high road and did everything right. The timing of the strike over the weekend was a chess move instigated by WJ, not the union.
