The world’s most powerful submarine hunter, killer of the time. Ship or shore based the aircraft can also operate in search and rescue duties.
The Westland WS-61 Sea King is a British licence-built version of the American Sikorsky S-61 helicopter of the same name, built by Westland Helicopters.
The aircraft differs considerably from the American version, with Rolls-Royce Gnome engines (derived from the US General Electric T58), British-made anti-submarine warfare systems and a fully computerised flight control system.
The Sea King was primarily designed for performing anti-submarine warfare (ASW) missions. A Sea King variant was adapted by Westland as troop transport known as the Commando.

The commentator is wrong. It is not a British helicopter.The Sea King is American helicopter design by “Sikorsky Aircraft.”

It was built under licence with so many modifications, engines, avionics it was effectively a British variant. For all intents and purposes a British Aircraft.

And the Royal Navy acquired the Sikorsky SH-3 Sea Kings from the U.S. in Connecticut & learned to fly/operate them from the U.S. Navy!!!

What do you mean aquired them from the US, didnt you watch the film, they just showed you making them at Yeovil, also they didn't get learnt by the US to fly them either as the British ones are totally different with avionics, engines and so forth, like fold away blades and tail.... So slide of your big headed yankee pedalstool before you fall and hurt yourself, dont you cringe writing stuff like that, as i feel cringe having to read it, its very childish and immature, and sounds like either the ramblings of a very insecure or a very narcissistic person.... Grow the fuk up ya big baby....
