If you don't skip to the review you will have a brief and partial lesson on the history of White Supremacy, the Great Replacement and what it has to do with some current debates.

Oh, and when I point to the stamp, it was ALGERIA that I pointed to. Map was inverted in the camera.

"The last supper is me at the table with twelve water whippers" is absolutely the line of the year. The juxtaposition of biblical imagery and crack vocabulary couldn't portray Hip-Hop's cultural reconquista (and I ain't leaving without my 40 acres) better, but the whole thing is still fun and not too self-serious.

Loved the opening essay. I've started to realize how often we focus on things that are easier to get "fix" rather than actual problems. Whether it's white supermacy, or capitalist ideas, some things are so entrenched in our systems that they seem impossible to get rid of. We just accept them and the ways things are just cause they are and have been. It's that "wages are low cause of immigrant workers", "whites-only union strike is not working cause of black workers" way of thinking that ignores the forest for the trees, whether it's on purpose or not. We're all guilty of this to different extents, but those in power are somehow always the beneficiaries (funny that). Also, great album. I think this might actually be my favorite of the series. p.s. since this is my first time commenting here, I wanted to let you know that I really appreciate the videos. I've been watching them for few months now, and I always learn from your insights and academic angle of hip-hop. I find the contexualizations for albums that you often do, extremely helpful.

Don't ever apologize for talking politics on your channel, ubiquitous concepts such as white supremacy must always be called out and challenged. There will be a natural pushback against uncomfortable topics such as this, but it needs to be confronted in the way that you do. As a matter of fact, I would subscribe to a channel dedicated to you solely talking about politics and your political analysis through a scholarly lens (perhaps more on the From the Desk channel lol). Thank you so much Professor Skye. ❤

I don’t agree with their message but I’m against the canceling with people who don’t hold that much power. Celebrities don’t hold nowhere as near as people in media and politicians. But yet we can let them say outlandish thing with no consequence and it’s accepted as free speech.

Honestly this is a cool history lesson but as a black man myself from Brooklyn ny that lives 2 blocks away from crown heights which has a large community of them the way people talk about them like their another race when in actuality it's a religion from Africa just like Jesus was born in Bethlehem which is in South Africa the issue is how they go about things when black celebrities say anything good or bad & or mention that religion that started in Eutopia in anyway they'll will try to destroy them by taking away their livelihoods then the black celebrities have to go on some apology tours to get their careers back which is completely ridiculous that's where the tension between both communities lies.

Thank you for this! I never considered myself racist and then my dad married a black woman and we all lived together with 3 black children. I realized over the course of those years that even though I had no racist feelings, when you live with another race, you change some things. Not to get specific but if you have to change anything about yourself to live with another race, the things you changed were probably racist. That's how powerful white supremacy is. You can live your whole life using it and the privilege it provides and never even know it and think you're being a good person all the while! Btw I love how you said you are anti-white supremacy and THAT is controversial. It's so true and sad.

Very interesting opening. Although it might come off as a bit one sided, it is truthful. Our society is based off of our inherent racist behavior and system. But it's all about equilibrium. We need to be wary about going too hard on these right wingers because then we give in to the same philosophy they give in to. We need to inform and warn, not condemn and ban. It's hard to apply but it's the true road to our society's "salvation" or return to an unattained equity. Anyways, very interesting rant. Maybe would help to nuance, although the argument ignites extreme reactions. These arguments are hard to approach stoicly or reasonably... Thanks for sparking the minds of your viewers.

I was thinking about the term white privilege, and came to the conclusion it's a inclusive term. White privilege is stamped on non wasp Europeans, second third fourth generation, who assimilated into American culture. Becoming white by " race" and a shared pride of American freedom, of a white class society. Although poor whites are alienated by wealth, race gave them false sense of class. Anti semitism isn't really a thing here, because Ashkenazi are considered white here. Some practice the religion of Judaism, but religious freedom has been protected, since the beginning of America. Race was defined at that time as well, there are only two races black and white, two classes slaves and free.

There is, evidently, a lot to say on the topic of white supremacy and the ways it still influences so much reactionary culture even from unlikely sources (such as black celebrities), but I wouldn't be the right one to speak on this. though deconstructing everything that ties notably back to frameworks of white supremacy would be next to impossible, I think the ways that you chose to address it and the fact you unambiguously namedropped several figures propagating such hateful movements in the mainstream was reall well done.

Jewish guy and Westside Gunn fan here. Good rant, but two major criticisms. 1)Not sure that this belongs on a Westside Gunn video. Yes naming his album "Hitler wears hermes" or "Hitlers" as he calls them in his raps is kind of cringey and can make me uncomfortable but to be honest it doesn't even register on the scale as "antisemitism", this is just someone being edgy and being a bit clumsy about it. Having listened to a lot of his music a lot of those references are kind of "prison yard" shit. People who have been to prison often are in the habit of wearing hateful symbols as a way of projecting attitude to get people to leave them alone. Same reason WG also wears confederate flags in one of his videos. It's not good, but not the best or even a good example of antisemitism in hip hop. Jay Electronica's album which was practically a 40 minute nazi rant went over everyone's head because it was all dog whistles. Either way I'm happy he renamed the album but I just don't care that much, there are much bigger problems right now. 2)Not sure if I agree with drawing a sharp line between "has power" and "doesn't have power" between white and black celebrities. There are two problems with it. For one it's kind of whataboutism. Kanye's followers outnumber Jews and his economic influence was at least at one point massive. He has a massive platform and has been influencing people to come out of the woodwork to spread antisemitism. Kyrie is an issue because this guy REALLY fuckin hates Jews. Again it's going over people's heads because he speaks mostly in dogwhistles, but he dropped an Instagram video which was practically the 14 words quoted verbatim. This is what ACTUAL antisemitism looks like, not a hitler album cover or a bad joke. I feel like I've been screaming this from the rooftops and no one is listening. This is what a dyed in the wool jew hater looks and acts like. My KZfaq feed is being inundated with literal nazi propaganda including videos showing the saxaphone guy and our good ol friend the happy merchant (I can show you a screenshot if you like) and youtube aint doing shit about it because they've realized that they are making too much money off of this stuff to care. It IS a problem and I'm getting a little sick of hearing from people that it isnt. The second issue is that if you willingly ignore antisemitism and white supremacy when it comes from black people then white supremacists' are always going to use non white people as a conduit to spread this garbage. They already are (see Ye, Candace Owens) Where do you think the BHI get all their money to go street preaching everywhere? I'm sure at least some of it comes from Nazis. If I were a white supremacist's it's exactly where I would be putting my money especially since we have some white leftists practically writing non white people a blank check to spread white supremacy. Any way I only responded to this video because it's overall pretty good and your grasp on history is better than most people let alone music reviewers. I don't even care if Kyrie Irving plays basketball or not. I don't even watch sports, but I will never back down from the fact that this guy is a bigoted piece of shit who hates Jews, and if you like what Kyrie Irving is saying then I fuckin hate you too.

As a Jew, totally agree w the first point. I’ve visited concentration camps, spoken to survivors, wrote essays on the ethics of forgiving holocaust survivors… I feel like I know my shit. And Westside Gunn really isn’t doing anything to bad by invoking hitters name. I feel you as a Black Man with a Jewish wife… I think maybe the crux of the issues between Jewish and Blacks within the music/sports industry are based in control / and the resistance to work within a certain power structure. I think Kanye and Kyrie are pushing against that power structure specifically which has a large Jewish governing body at its height ie the music industry and the sport Industry. I think the people who create the power structures can be critiqued but not blamed for wrongdoing. It’s be hard out here. Understanding all sides will lead to better understanding of the truth.

I just think there’s a bit of audacity in your stance on lyric… considering the fact that what he shared had nothing to do with antisemitism and everything to do with a black man searching for truth in a world where our history/lineage has been made extremely difficult to trace. The fact that you can’t see that shows a bit of ignorance of our experience as black Americans, and ignorance towards all that kyrie has done in his past to make attempts to help his community out of an oppressed state. Just saying. But carry on… your approach on cultural truth isn’t the type to be censored anyway.
