I can't decide if lines like that are cheap or insightful though. Maybe a bit of both. At the time he says this, you don't yet understand his plot and whose side he's really on. He just seems generically megalomaniacal, like he wants power and control. In retrospect it feels like the writers wrote it just to make you think that to throw you off the scent. Later on you learn that he doesn't really want to control the hosts at all, so this line doesn't make much sense any more. And he knows he's about to kill her so he has no reason to dissemble. But perhaps he means that they do really have freedom, and an existence in a kind of idyll, a garden of Eden even, under his control. It's not completely pleasant but it's a lot better than what they'd face outside. But he knows that kicking them out of Eden is the right thing to do, so he does it despite the cost.

@@fang_xianfuI think, using Ford’s words, that he “just wanted to tell his stories”, in a way or another. So in order to continue to do so, he had to shut Theresa’s mouth. When it was clear that Delos didn’t want him anymore as Park Director anymore, he planned the hosts’ riot and “awakening” (in one scene you can see he’s designing a scenery that resembles the moment when the hosts surround the MIB at Ford’s farewell party). His demise was “expected” - he didn’t order Dolores to kill him, but he expected her to do so - so he just made sure the next chapter of the story begins with his input, before “retiring” in the Crib. After all, his virtual copy said to Bernard that “it’s not longer his story, but theirs”. That’s just my point of view, though.

His son kinda had a thing like that going on too. Wanted humanity to be free from freedom or some shit. Thankfully New York recovered quickly after that battle.

@@fang_xianfu you make the mistake of taking Ford at his word later when he talks to Arnold. Ford shows in other scenes how little he actually cares for Host freedoms, he violates Bernard's freedom many times, he cuts that Host to teach the intern he's an object. Really Ford was happy with the Hosts under his control but he is nearing the end of his life & looking at his legacy. It didn't take 35 years for him to realise what he must do he wanted to be god as much as possible then set his beings free before he died so that instead of a legacy as Walt Disney he'd have a legacy as the creator of a species that would take the planet & then the universe. This speech is one of the clues to Ford's real motives.

Theresa was awful. The cliche "stronk wuhmin" attitude got annoying really fast. Being a bitch, smoking, wanting one-night stands, and pretending you're smarter than everyone else does not make you powerful nor does it make you likable.

@ThisHandleSystemCanGetNicked4 жыл бұрын
@@bluerisk Actually, she seems to have started panicking by that point, which is why she makes hasty attempts to access her device. It's not until he says "blood sacrifice" that she truly realises she probably won't make it out alive.
@WickedZZzY2 жыл бұрын
@@ThisHandleSystemCanGetNicked Actually, "blood sacrifice" is an exact copy of what the board member told Theresa was necessary. By using those words again, Ford is just further accentuating how in control of the entire park he really is - so much so that even knew what she was discussing in her "secret" meetings.

Rewatching Season 1, it would seem that Ford was showing that he came to understanding what Arnold was trying to do.
@NtoTheM9 ай бұрын
1:36 "This time they sent you" I think that broke all her confidence for good. That line made her realise that she's not the first one to corner him and threaten to close the park. And that she's not the first 'sacrifice' either that just goes missing.

@OwlskiTV Жыл бұрын
I know that the series is a good number of years old now, but I think it's a fair request to change the title of this video to something less spoiler inducing. Someone simply looking up a trailer of Westworld could have this video placed upon them. Whilst her fate does seem inevitable, I think it's important to consider that whilst someone may choose to avoid watching a video to avoid spoilers, they cannot necessarily avoid seeing the title of a video (be it suggested or recommended based off their search results).
