Wet Bulb and Dry Bulb Temperatures Explained

Air and water vapor mixtures are very common in air handling and processing applications. Wet and dry bulb temperatures are one way to determine the relative humidity. A pyschrometric chart gives detailed information on water-air vapor mixtures.

Hi thanks for the video, I have a question: If I know the dry bulb temperature (ie outside temperature) is 28 degrees C and the relative humidity is 70%. What would be the relative humidity if the same air was heated to 40 degrees C? Are we allowed to just move horizontally to 40 degrees C in the psychometric chart?

+masterstudent Yes, please see the video at 4:15. The horizontal lines are constant mass fraction of the moisture content. You are correct that you can move horizontally.

Hello, I was just wondering about the part (28:50-28:55). What is it and can I use it when working in SI?

Yes, all of these calculations can be performed with SI units (I actually prefer this). You'll see that some of the examples are completed with the SI unit chart. You can also pull the numbers off the AES chart and convert the units to SI, although this may be a little painful.

This is for an engineering course. You may want to look at videos that start with a more basic introduction.

If water on tht wick evaporates tht is it absorbs heat from air and how on earth then the bulb temperature increases.

If air that is less than saturated at 100 percent relative humidity, the wet-bulb temperature is lower than the dry-bulb temperature. However, the wet bulb temperature is higher than the dew point temperature.

It seems like you don’t fully understand the graph you are trying to interpret at 6:00-7:00. You make mistakes, don’t explain, incorrectly identify items. It’s a shame because I was learning a lot until that point.

sir good day.. i follow your video demo and it's a big help for me can I ask what formula you use to compute your last answer -215 btu per min.and -12,925 btu per hr?i try to compute by i can't take your right answer so pls.help me..thanks....

+Ferdinand Tavarra The formula is listed as an energy balance where Q = sum(inlet enthalpies) - sum(outlet enthalpies). Specifically, the numbers are (0.1583*28)+(16.76*6.94) -(48.44*6.94) = -215 BTU/min Let me know if you have any additional questions.

It's just unit conversion as -215 BTU/min * 60 min/hr = -12,900 BTU/hr
