Join me as I guide you through all the steps necessary to make a beautiful seamless wet felt bracelet. Starting with a small quantity of wool (I used merino) and adding optional embellishing fibres (I used silk) learn how to work around a resist (template) to create strong yet soft and sculptural jewellery. This is the perfect project for anyone new to felting three dimensional pieces and wonderful for using up small quantities of supplies left over from other projects.
00:00 Introduction from Nicola
01:16 Equipment needed (soap, net, resist material etc.)
04:37 Felting supplies (wool and embellishments)
05.40 Laying out the bangles
14:00 Adding embellishments
17:00 Starting to felt
33:00 Removing the resist (template)
34:00 Cutting the outside edges of one bangle
35:00 Working the edges
39:00 Using a tea towel to finish the felt and continue the shrinking (fulling) process
42:50 Rinsing in hot water
44:00 Shaping and finishing
If you make these bracelets and would like to share images of your pieces please feel free to upload them to my community page here on KZfaq!

I have SO enjoyed your tutorials Nichola. Thank you so much for all your very generous teachings. Please could you explain why it’s so necessary to clean the table of all soap towards the end? Many thanks. 😊
@clasheen
@clasheen 7 ай бұрын
I'm happy that you are enjoying the videos! Yes, I clean the table of all soap because I do not want to finished felt to contain any. I like to do my final shaping after I have washed out the felt so having any on the table is counterproductive. Does this make sense?

Wonderful! Thank you for sharing. I noticed you laid the second layer the same direction. So a 90 degree layer isn’t necessary on the second tiled roving for these bracelets?
@clasheen
@clasheen Жыл бұрын
Hi Anne, I actually had to go back and check the video to see what I did and you are correct. For these bracelets I worked with short fibre wool batts and didn’t lay the second layer at right angles to the first. However, if you are using roving you can lay it out at 90 degrees instead or else just proceed like I did and allow for more shrinkage in the direction that the shingles are laid

Nicola, I'm using some Alpaca that I bought as a pelt. I've washed it 3 times, rinsed it, and run it through a Drum Carder twice. The Brown Alpaca is felting up OK, but the white is not. It's just staying long, hairy, and more "on the surface" than incorporated into the felt. I've rolled it twice as long as you show here, but it just doesn't seem to want to incorporate itself. Any advice is much appreciated.
@clasheen
@clasheen Жыл бұрын
Hi from Ireland! Alpaca is not as easy to felt with especially is you are new to the process. Washing an rinsing it all those times may have made it more difficult too however that doesn't mean that it isn't possible! There are two sorts of strands of fibre as well, a softer one and a longer one which is referred to as a 'guard hair'. I suspect that is the hairier one sitting on the surface of your felt so my recommendation is not to worry about it, providing of course that your bangle is holding together and fits your hand. It's the nature of the fibre that you have chosen to use! Why not experiment with merino wool and see how that goes for you? Good luck!

Is there a reason you don't use a rolling pin or small dowel to wrap the package round when you roll this? I found it really difficult to roll without one. could just be my hands which are a little stiff?
@clasheen

Absolutely Jeanie, use whatever way you find easiest for rolling!
