A tip if you make your own wet palette of a plastic container. Use the lid instead for the base. You get rid of the high edges. Much better than the actual container. ;)

as a guy with pretty shaky appendages (no real problems though), My best two tips are 1: cradling the mini in both my off hand and painting hand, anchoring my brush to the mini 2: sitting with my knees close to my face, and kind of pressing my arms against my legs to absorb shakiness. I know this might seem patronising since I don't know anything about you, so sorry about that.. ugh. thanks for the wiz kids recommendation anyways :)

Maybe look into getting a 3d printer. You can find files online for free or there are several great Patreon that have great models every month. One gold piece has about 4 separate models for a $1 each month. They are scaled for DnD but you can scale up to whatever size you want. If you go very much larger learn to hollow the model to save time and money.

I too have neurological issues that have worsened over the years. At one point in my life I was an award winning modeler. Now my tremors are so severe that I believed I would never paint scale models again. I started messing around with 3D printing. There is a bit of a learning curve but now I’m printing my own dioramas. What was once at 1/72 or 1/35th scale can now be at any scale I choose (within reason of course) my tiny minis I usually print around 200% larger. There are free files online to learn, you can buy files (.stl or .obj) or make your own after a while. Shaking hands don’t have to be our end. NEVER GIVE UP!

Hey Squidmar. I've rediscovered my love of painting through my 7 year old son. He inherited a huge Tau army from my brother in law who had unfortunately decided to grow up. This has led to me unearthing my original Eldar war host from the 90s and I sprayed over the awful rendition of Biel tan that I did back then with a zenithal and OMG these models are amazing. We are learning from each other all the time. My son Max painted his tau black and then smudged red into all the recesses and went over and neatened the panels with fresh black. For a 7 year old it looks better than I could have imagined. I'm 44 and I just used the same technique on my falcon grab tank. Wow. We love watching and we emigrated from the UK to Thailand and there isn't much of a GW presence here. So we're working with what we have and repurposing old models to the best of our ability. Thanks for all the inspiration. Following this video my wife, daughter, son and myself all have homemade wet pallets and we set aside time to listen to vinyl records and paint as a family. Thank you for keeping us informed and enthusiastic. Lee

I'm probably one of your older followers, being in my 60s. Just want to say a big thanks, I am 'getting back into' this hobby for somthing to keep me interested in my retierment. I did some years back with the kids! But never got on top of the painting. Have bought a wet palette and some decent brushes. After a couple of weeks I now have 10 Stricking Scorpion at a fair table top standard. It makes painting a batch so much easer. Also I can paint in a diffrent place with only the palette some water and the mini to move, so I can sit and watch a battle report while painting. Once again many thanks.

For those in hot humid environments that use AC in the summer. Store your closed wet palette near a window to avoid mold growth. Also, make sure to have a transparent top so the UV light can do its job. Dark and moist environments are bad, Mkay!

I dig how genuine he was about this. I'm getting started and had been wondering if I should invest in a wet pallette. I feel like this video helped inform me on that decision a lot. Also I like that you periodically just pause for a moment, even just to be silly, because that helps give the viewer a moment to soak in the info. Instead of one giant endless dump of information.

A tip regarding parchment paper: If you dont want to cut a bunch, buy muffin or cup-cake baking paper cups. Atleast in Sweden, these are circular pieces of parchment that will flatten out neatly when you wet them. and they fit a small plate very well. For the purpose of the drawing, I am currently painting a Rohan army for Middle Earth Strategy Battle Game / Lord of the Rings!

I'm painting a big old passion project. I started painting last August and I'm trying to get my first army together for this year's Armies on Parade. It's a Halloween themed Maggotkin army and it's called 'Nurgle's Garden Party'. My rotbringers are all giant bloated orange nurglings, I've converted up my plagebearers into plaguespiders, i'm now kitbashing a few Kruleboys models with Festus and a Poxbringer. They're pumpkin farmers and it looks absolutely crazy! I've been having so much fun! Warhammer has helped me through the hardest time of my life, and i love my stinky little monsters! I know I'm a little later for the competition, but I thought I'd just share.

After putting down this hobby 10+ years, I recently pick it up again. I used to paint around 5 layers with mixing darker color to lighter color in 4:1 -> 3:2 -> 1:1 -> 2:3 -> 1:4. This took a lot of time and the result was not very great. Revently I pick up the hobby again and learnt wet palette from your video. This just speeds up my painting a lot with much better result. I can just take 2 colors and mix them on wet palette and it is so easy make gradient color. It is more like blending instead of layering. With wet palette it is so easy to achieve that! Thanks a lot for your sharing. Even after 10+ years of abandoning the hobby, I just level up my skill immediately.

I just got me a wet palette and done some painting since its arrival yesterday. I didn't want to invest too heavily as I was curious what is all the fuzz about, so I got me one from Army Painter. Even after just a few hours of using it, I can say that this was already a worthwhile investment, just for not being forced to open the paint can anew every few minutes as the old paint has just dried out on the normal palette. I can't say how much time this alone saved for me, but I guess it's substantial. The most important thing for me is, that you don't have to drop the brush every few minutes and really get into a kind of flow when painting. So thanks for the recommendation, you've earned a new Subscriber (for what it's worth) - keep it up!

I started using wet palette when i was batch painting an 1850 points force of Crimson Fists back a couple of years ago and it for sure is a game changer. Being able to set up my painting area the on the first evening and then having everything available, the only step to get to it being cracking open the wet palette and be painting instantly combined with just needing to clean the brush and closing the wet palette was a huge part of keeping me motivated to paint a step or three on a squad or vehicle almost every day. Cant recommend one enough. I used the exact same food container (except light blue), cut up wetex cloth and parchment, other than an airbrush for the ability to prime+zenital spray indoors and putting down a base coat its been the biggest improvement to my painting experience.

I'm really enjoying how accessible you make the hobby. I've been collecting miniatures on and off for about 13 years, and I'm learning new things all the time. I'm currently working on my own Dark Angels successor chapter, a Baneblade and a khorne army for AoS. I've also just started collecting Bolt Action. The next step will be to progress into scale models such as armour and Gunpla. Hopefully a wet pallet will make all that much easier. Thank you and keep the excellent content coming.

Just got a resin 3D printer, so I'm painting a lot of minis for D&D. Well, I'm printing a lot of minis, not painting nearly fast enough to keep up. I made a quick wet palette after watching a few other videos and really like it. I hate wasting mini paint because it dries up so quickly. Your tip about the metal flake paints was worth the like and subscribe. Look forward to watching more of your videos.

I just started painting this year, been watching a lot of KZfaq videos for tips, and that's how I come across your channel. I made my own wet pallet from a tuppaware box, but my biggest frustration is the sides are to tall, so I'm having to reach over to get my paints on. Love the video and looking to invest in one myself, so great to get your recommendations. I'm currently painting a bone devil from deepcuts

Warmest greetings Emil, from Phoenix Az, U.S. First off, I would like to THANK you! not only for the great videos that I've enjoyed for some time, but for personally inspiring and motivating me to once again pursue miniature painting. 25 years ago, having painted and modeled for over a decade, i was nearing master class. I have long since passed on my vast line of paints and materials to interested parties. I will be using your's as well as a few other sources to determine what I should start fresh with. I will be getting EWP, among the first of my new supply spree! :) thank you again and keep up the great painting and videos.

Great video Emil! I've seen a few other DIY/how-to-use wet palette videos, but yours went into better detail about using a wet palette and how to get the right consistency of paint once it's on the palette. I'm a pretty novice painter and I'm just about to tackle my biggest project-- a Megaboss heavily inspired by the one you posted on P&P. I doubt I'll get close to the quality of paint jobs you can create, but I'm learning so much from your channel and having a blast painting (maybe a new wet palette might help!). You're quickly becoming one of my favorite YT channels full stop. Keep up the great work!

Would like to add one thing: I use a small water bottle with atomizer spray tip. It refreshes paint before getting skin layer and brushes. Brushes can dry while sitting for just a few minutes, like batroom break, a spritz prevents it.

Ok, cool! I use a home made wet palette which is two plastic party plates, one wraped in celephane where I place my paper towel and parchment paper. I have a pretty humid environment, so placing the second plate over the palette does enough to keep my paints going for a day or two. Did not know about the metalics, I generally only drybrush those on so they rarely touch the palette, but did discover the inks/washes bit the hard way. Anyway, thanks for the content. I'm now off to binge watch the rest of your videos.

Let me just say. I find your video informative and inspirational. They keep me wanting to paint, so that's is why I became a patreon. I really enjoyed this discussion on wet pallets. I have been using a home made wet pallet and been using a paper towel. I really like your recommendation on the cellulose sponge which I did order and cannot wait to get. Currently, I am painting Stoneforged Guild Ball miniatures. I have two guilds in process Alchemists and Masons containing a total of 20 miniatures that are primed and waiting to be painted.

I have already bought one so i do not need it but i have found a good way to paint cheap and detailed miniatures. Epic encounters have around twenty miniatures that are well detailed and it costs 60 bucks. you do need to wash them before you start priming because the primer will not stick if you do not. I have been painting a pack of orks for a while and I really enjoy painting them. It is a great use of your money in my opinion.

You are the first ever KZfaqr I feel is worth subscribing to! I just started painting again after a 6 year break. I always played warhammer fantasy and I had to find out that GW killed my precious game :( I'm not a big fan of age of sigmar, so I started off painting some space marines in a desert camoflage pattern. Would you be interested in making a video on how you would paint freehand stuff like camo or other cool stuff? Also, I had never used a wet pallette before, so I improvised one like you described. Holy shit what a huge difference! Now I want that pro one!

5:20 Is that crack painted on the ceiling to give your room more character? 😂 Cheers 🍻 mate. 11:00 I’m wondering if you use wax parchment, what if you take a sheet and sandwich it between two sheets of sandpaper and place a bunch of books on it to grind small holes through it? Different grits of sandpaper could be used to provide different levels of wicking. This should last longer than unwaxed parchment paper. You could also make different sheets with varying amounts of grit or no grit so you can have a dry surface for mixing paints instead of using your finger/finger nail. Alternatively, you can just place a white bathroom tile on one side of the parchment paper for use as a dry palette. 12:00 What if you used the lid instead of the base for the wet palate? Then you can use the base to hold little cups of water. You can glue 12-20 cups to the base, fill them with water, and use them for washing brushes/thinning paints. This would reduce the number of times you would have to get clean water while utilizing more of the plastic container. If you use cups shorter than than the base of the container, they won’t smash the wet palate in the lid. If you space the cups out and cut notches into some of the cups, you’ll have horizontal stands for brushes that will allow you to place your brushes in the base in such a way that the hairs are submerged in the container base water but not smashed against the sides or bottom of the base. This will allow you to soak the brush tips allowing the pigments in them to dissolve into the water without destroying the hairs.
