Downside of sandals or shoe/sandal hybrids is sand and gravel getting in under your sole as you mention - super annoying! Proper boot with neoprene guard sock is the way to go! Yet another awesome vid Joe!

Thank you! The more I fish, the more I appreciate a good boot and sock combo. Just a few days after this I wore my sandals and regretted it. Got rocks in my shoes, had to climb up a rock slide, and went home probably a lot sooner than I would have otherwise!

Have you had a chance to try the All Axis wading shoe option from Korkers? I would love to see a video on those, really interested in those over the sandals to help with the pebbles/rocks.

I need to trade in my Simms wet wading shoes. They don’t fit me anymore and I barely used them. They’re nice and light and have no holes like those sandals but gravel still get inside.

Looks like THE solution to me. (These boots, these socks and these pants) What is the pants tissue material about? ( for examp. 93% polyester/ 7% elastane?) How durable is the pants material? If I get you correctly you said that you protect the pants by putting the lower end into the neoprene socks against low vegetation for additional savety, but what is your opinion about these (i guess) low/no cotton quick dry pants around a wild deep green and maybe even thorny riverbank? Because those impassable places are often the hottest trout spots here in our location. Thanks for your video and my very best regards from Germany, Chris

I wear the Simms flyweight boots over a pair of lightweight hiking socks and a pair of neoprene wading socks. I find the neoprene is hard to get off of my skin but the extra layer of a lightweight sock helps it roll off more easily. By the way I love my flyweight boots (idrogrip with studs on the toes and heels, but a soft area left in the middle) which I use for all my wading. I was afraid they would fall apart quickly. I'm almost halfway through my second year with them and they show little to no sign of wear. And I spend a lot of time climbing up and down rip rap and through brush.

What about your socks? And do your socks get wet from walking in the river?

Hey Joe, nice video. Hey, whatever happened to your "Air Jordans" Simms Intruder Boots? Did you finally wear them out? I still have mine from your shop. :)

What footwear would you use for wading flats in the tropics

Depends a bit on the trip, in-shore fishing on the Caribean side is typically soft so you can wear a "dive bootie" of sorts. The Simms Zip-it is the best we've found. If you are walking coast-lines with rocks and coral, then a Simms Flats Sneaker is what I'll use. For just a quick out of the boat, stalk a fish, back in the boat I have a Simms Challenger shoe but I think anything would work for that as long as it's not a sandle (they get stuck in soft muddy bottoms).

Allowing the government to tell you when you can and can not fish is wild.

No one is excited about it, but either the government tells you when you can fish... or there won't be anymore fish to fish. This exact mentality (i dO wHaT i wAnT) is why we need regs in the first place smh. Stick to your local government stocker pond and you won't have a problem... open all year

Ummm just a little warning on Boa systems. They are NOT Bulletproof. I’ve had my Simms Boa and 2 pairs of golf shoes fail and then you are SCREWED you can always find some kind of string to do up traditional lace systems NOT with cable Boa’s. And replacing the cable on a replacement is not easy either. JUST SAYING.
