About the riskiest endeavor one can undertake in General Aviation - besides low-level aerobatics - is taking off in a relatively heavy CFR Part 23 piston twin on a hot day.

Apparently it was nearly 100°F at McKinney today which of course would affect air density but this was a very powerful twin and a very experienced pilot so I wonder if it lost an engine. I say this because the 2 passengers were reportedly mechanics and the plane according to another report banked left and crashed upside down. Does that maybe sound like a left engine out and an unrecoverable spin/roll?

@@rayray8687 Yes unfortunately it does sound like vmc roll below blue line. RIP to the victims. The Pfactor and torque effect on a big piston twin is eye opening how fast things can change. Ugh makes me sick seeing this kind of thing. The Smacfum acronym for twins was against them with that high DA.

@@slploudmouth: Thank you for that explanation. I’m not a very experienced pilot and I’ve never flown a twin engine but can still remember ground school warnings about the difference between a simple single-engine stall/spin and a twin-engine spin with one engine out. Fortunately I never got to try it.

@@rayray8687yep, Vmc roll.

My guess, and it’s only a guess at this point, is high density altitude resulting in a stall. But we’ll see when the report comes out.

Yep, in 2 or years and a few more accidents.

Wow!! It took off, rolled over, and crashed. Looking at the map of the area, it took off and banked left rolling over and crashed.

I think this is a VMC Roll. One engine Failure during takeoff in a Multi is a handful. I am so sorry for the families and victims. I pray they find some comfort in due time. It's very sad.

Wow….. an inverted takeoff crash is very rare. Mechanical problem with a control surface is a good place to start. Any recent work done on plane? Interested to see the results of this investigation
@jimw161511 күн бұрын
That is certainly one aspect of this crash to look into, however, a control surface malfunction is not one I would identify as an initial probable cause. Control continuity is a basic step that is established in aviation crashes and is usually confirmed quit early in the investigation.

A sad situation for sure, but infuriating to listen to reporters, and this attorney give factually wrong information. Mainly, the attorney said that take-off is the most dangerous phase of flight. Wrong! Far more accidents occur in the landing phase of flight. I'd also like to know exactly what type of airplane this is, but at first glance, it doesn't appear to be a Cessna, even a twin-engine Cessna. But I've seen reports call all small general aviation airplanes, "Cessnas."

If you land "inverted" "seconds after takeoff", it is pilot error. Even if the engine seizes, the airplane can still remain wings level as it descends...typical lawyer speak BS. Why did the "news" station feel it necessary to have an ambulance chaser weigh in on the mishap?
