Writer-comedian and Abbott Elementary actress Janelle James delivers the opening monologue for the 2023 Writers Guild Awards Los Angeles show.
The 2023 Writers Guild Awards west coast show was held on Sunday, March 5, 2023 at the Fairmont Century Plaza in Los Angeles and hosted by James.

"Y'all wild for that one!" "I wanted to say domestic abuse in the building cause it hits harder." LOL Her comedic timing is wonderful. I also admire her professionalism as she was met with an extremely dry crowd. The level of discomfort as she spoke from her perspective (black woman, actor, writer) was disappointing though. I absolutely love how she can laugh at herself. That's something that a lot of people could stand to learn how to do. She killed this opening!
