When I was first introduced to digital cable up in Canada in 2008 and I stumbled across The CW superstations that were available to us, Skilling's presentation style on WGN had me hooked right away to the point where I'd make a habit of watching the News at 9 mid-way through after the Illinois Lottery draws around 9:20 PM back when they were still using blowers/tumblers, just for the fun of it. It's kinda funny how not even a couple of weeks later after Skilling announced he was gonna, another similarly legendary meteorologist in Winnipeg, John Sauder, announced that he was also going to retire after a just under 40-year career of his own in broadcasting and meteorology between radio and CKY/CTV and CBC, which he did the first week of this year. Congratulations Tom on retirement and all the best to you! Not only are you revered in Chicagoland, but also by this guy in the Great White North too.

Wow! Years ago, and I do mean YEARS ago...we used to be able to get WGN weather on our big satellite dish. Being in New England and flying hot air balloons, we found Tom's forecasts more comprehensive than most and were very appreciative of his vast knowledge. Sadly, when we moved on from our big dish, we no longer could received WGN. Tom had the absolutely BEST graphics and gave the most complete weather forecasts than any other. So glad to see that he's been going strong all these years. Enjoy a wonderful retirement! You most certainly deserve it!

Back in 2001 I interned at Fox News Chicago Ch. 32 with Rick DiMaio and Harry Volkman for a couple of years. Rick loved Tom and they frequently chatted on the phone despite being on rival news stations. I had an opportunity to speak with Tom Skilling on the phone once and he kept saying, "Well, I gotta go. Lots to do!", but he would keep talking. I loved it. Growing up in Chicago, I've always (like I'm sure most of you) enjoyed his forecasts in the Tribune. Happy Retirement, Tom!

@@redmanr5522 Yes no one will replace Tom I'm sure he will hear rattings go down because he retired. Demetrius will do his best as chief and that is the best for him. But to make it to 45 years like Tom Demetrius would be in his 80s then . So tomorrow Demetrius might start of saying he won't make it longer then Tom. Tom started in his 20s Demetrius is in his 40s now. So Tom's 45 years will last long and my not ever be broken. of your 45 years of WGN, I’m proud to say that it’s been a privilege to be able to watch your forecast for at least 35 of those years since I was a teenager growing up in the 1980s and 90s. of course, I followed you watching your forecast on the WGN app and on KZfaq. and once had the chance of recording a newscast at the museum of broadcast communications in 1990 and. you had a forecast complementing that mock broadcast, which I wish we hadn’t lost the video cassette of because now that you’re retired, it’s kind of a piece of history. but there’s no question when I say that watching forecasters like you and a host of others, it’s been a inspiration for my amateur forecasting, which I do with my friends on Facebook in the form of blind side weather. and so you could be proud of the fact that you’ve inspired many to carry on your legacy in one form or another. Good luck on your retirement. and thank you for 45 years at WGN and beyond. PS, I really got a kick out of a couple of my other pictures making it onto your show from here in.Swartz Creek Michigan, and once again in Libertyville during a snowstorm when I was visiting with family. The Michigan pitcher was after the December 2013 ice storm, which crippled a large amount of this region of the state. Thanks again and best wishes.
