I love WOTR and even though I bought Rogue Trader I did it basically to support Owlcat. You are probably right about WOTR's uniqueness BUT I hope they continue to work on Pathfinder games in the future.

Hard to argue that RT is a better game than WOTR right now. So I won't. That said, if I have to pick one I am going with RT. One of the reasons why? The setting. For every 75 high fantasy CRPGs we might get 1 sci-fi CRPG. And getting one as good as RT? I honestly can't recall the last great sci-fi CRPG.
@stevenwoodward59236 ай бұрын
I might buy Roque Trader IF it ever cost under 30 dolars. I care the most about story and setting and I hate both in Sci-fi games except "Knights of the old Republic." Don't care about the RT universe. If you enjoy it great have fun, for me I won't spend a lot of money on something I don't care that much about.

@@stevenwoodward5923 Thanks for jogging my memory. KOTOR was a great CRPG. So was the Mass Effect franchise which is probably the last great sci-fi CRPG before RT. RT is worth $50, easily. I am over 300 hours into RT and still cannot stop. Sure, it has bugs, sure, the fights are unbalanced at the moment, but so what, all this will be fixed. It truly is the best game since WOTR, never had such a blast. I would, however, not compare WOTR to RT because they feel like 2 totally different games to me. Both are my best loved games, I would not want to decide which one I love more.
@Lipt0nic6 ай бұрын
Yeah, my pick was set before watching the video, you pretty much summed it up. Wotr > Rogue trader all day. But to be fair, wotr came after kingmaker, and they improved a lot on it. I would have a much harder time picking between kingmaker and rogue trader. So, here's hoping for a sequel to RT. Thanks for the vid.

I have to turn the music down but then I can't hear you. Please lower the music volume in future videos. Love your work, thanks! On a personal note I have to go with Rogue Trader as my favourite CRPG. As much as I get that WotR is superior in practically every way game wise its the Warhammer 40K setting that wins me over. For me the D&D setting has been done to death and there's just so many to pick from. The setting and lore in RT is fantastic and no other W40K game comes close to portraying it this well in my opinion. I hope it has a long and prosperous future with many DLC's.
@notalefty9996 ай бұрын
Rogue trader is decent for a playthrough, and I may well revisit with DLC, but I am really struggling for motivation to replay it just at the moment. My biggest complaints with RT compared with WoTR: - The combat is broken. From early to midgame onwards, you can reliably kill enemies before they even have the possibility of acting. This included every single fight in chapters 4 and 5 on daring difficulty, and honestly, I don't think unfair would have done much more than delay this moderately. This can be fixed, and they really need to do this ASAP. WoTR combat isn't perfect (both you and the enemy are far too deadly meaning combat is always resolved very quickly, limiting tactical options significantly), but at least the enemy can actually do something. - Neither game is great for immersive environments, with the scope of in game environments being small and somewhat contrived. Neither have large and plausible non dungeon areas like Neketaka in Pillars 2 or Athkatla/Baldur's Gate of the BG series and honestly, this is something that Owlcat really needs to work on improving as for my money, this is how they can most elevate the quality of their games. But RT fails to meet the fairly low bar set by WoTR and does so by some margin. Whilst WoTR is basically split up into dungeon and hub areas, the dungeon environments are at least good. Alushinyrra at least attempted to create a decent sized environment occupied by characters with their own concerns, not just monsters waiting to be killed or vendors waiting to buy/sell. Even amongst the dungeon areas with enemies just waiting to be killed, there were several great examples with large scope and believable and immersive environments. RTs environments are all very small and gamey, without a single instance of an environment designed primarily for immersion first and gameplay functionality second. There is no quick fix here or honestly, fix at all. Its just something I hope they do with future games. - Build variety is much more limited. I did like having the steady pace of level ups compared to the highly uneven mythic progression of in particular, but whilst character building is far from braindead, the variety of builds is far more limited. The variety of spellcasting is also much smaller, though non spellcasters do get significantly more options in combat compared to the average warrior on Pathfinder.
@Brainman2346 ай бұрын
Your first complaint is pretty much the same for Wotr except early game - mid game to late game you kill everything before it acts in both games. Has always been a issue with Owlcat. Compared to WoTr the areas are far better. Act 3 Onwards Wotr is even worse than Pathfinder Kingmaker. Which is crazy. Wotr in general is much worse in every aspect except combat and build variety than Pathfinder which really makes me think. They went for Quantity instead of quality. RT at least they tried 4 acts before giving up in the last acts. Wotr after Act2 was just meh. Variety of builds well as with all the Owl at games it depends on the difficulty. Everything on Core and Onwards whittles down to These 5-7 builds that will crush it. But I have to say RT is far more beginner friendly. If the overhaul the HUD for the leveling up the will have a mass of players coming that usually don't touch it because they did not understand the system from all the bloat
@notalefty9996 ай бұрын
@@Brainman234You kill everything quickly, sure, often fast enough that it doesnt do much, but not literally before there is any possibility of the enemy taking an action.
@DJ-yo9oi6 ай бұрын
How do you not count Alushinyrra as a large non-dungeon area?
@notalefty9996 ай бұрын
@@DJ-yo9oi I did: "Alushinyrra at least attempted to create a decent sized environment occupied by characters with their own concerns, not just monsters waiting to be killed or vendors waiting to buy/sell." However, I would say it falls short of Neketaka and Athkatla by a significant margin. Firstly, its one chapter, not hub throughout the entire game. Secondly, its a fair bit smaller. Thirdly, it is much more combat heavy and is a good deal more hack and slash than the other two I mentioned.
@DJ-yo9oi6 ай бұрын
@@notalefty999 You did not.... Decent-sized and large are not the same? And I think you are vastly overselling Neketaka. Some places, like the Sacred Stair, were quite small. And outside of a few street fights (like 4 IIRC), Alyshinyrra is really not hack and slash (unless your goal is to murder everything in sight, which the Hand explicitly suggests you do NOT do). Hub in WOTR is Drezen, which makes sense. It is a Crusade. I don't see how that hurts immersion.

I've played all three of these games, BG3 was by far the best experience, It was so good that as soon as i finished it i started a second playthrough straight away. WoTR was great, i enjoyed it a lot, not enough to play through it a second time, Rogue Trader i didnt even bother finishing, lost interest a short way in to act 4, combat on unfair feels like you are cheesing when you win. and if you arent playing in a way that feels cheap you just lose, the combat plays out the same way every time "go first every time and give one character 5 turns" it also felt unfinished and rushed, act 2 was good, act 3 was horrible for a lot of reasons including the way the story railroads you there, and the horrible, horrible placement of 500000 traps on every map towards to end. Constantly crying about the "dating" in BG3 is so disingenuous, it's like 0.1% of the game, could it have been done better? sure, did it affect my enjoyment of the game at all? not even a single bit. Werglia conveniently never mentions all the bad stuff in RT but addresses BG3 as a dating simulator. fanboyism at its finest.
