If I lived near the car wizard I would never be scared to own an exotic. Because you know he would fix it right and price it fairly. Crazy that so many auto mechanics haven’t figured out how much more business they would get just being honest and fair.

As a mechanic I respect the car wizard. He has a wealth of knowledge.

I used to work in a Ford factory in the UK. The factory made the instrument clusters and the senders. We used to ship the instrument movements (not the full cluster) to the Aston Martin factory six per week so yes the parts are the same.

I drive buses in London and have enough trouble running my push bike, fixing other people's punctures (always carry spare inner tubes, tyre levers and small pump). So I have nothing but admiration for your knowledge and expertise especially with the British stuff.

Been there done that - had to change the clutch during the service on my Vantage - glad I was sitting down when I paid the bill. But, in the bay next to mine was a one 007 - that bill was ahem eye watering!

The Wizard know what he's doing. I'm glad that he's brutally honest when it comes to a real mechanic. There's these wannabe mechanics out there that can rip a person off if someone aren't mechanically inclined.

I saw one of these Aston Martin's listed in an auction in Australia years back, older than this model and it sold for the price of a new Camry at the time. What put most people off buying the car was the history of the car, $11,000 for electrical repairs apart from a list of of other repairs, that was then. I wish I could afford to buy and keep one of these.

Also, what you would do to keep the value up, is replace the stock stuff while its still in good condition, and keep it in storage. Use aftermarket stuff until you are ready to sell the car, then put the stock stuff back on it. win win

So right away, I’m going to assume carbon ceramic discs, and those wild prices are if you buy the OEM replacements. Assuming you don’t take the more common route of just replacing them with iron discs, you can frequently find an aftermarket replacement. These aren’t low quality CC rotors, one of the companies making them is surface transforms, and they’re one of the pioneers of the technology. This actually represents an upgrade, as the OEM rotors are just chopped carbon rotors, while the surface transforms units are CFRC rotors. Oh yeah, ceramic rotors typically only wear meaningfully when they’re above the auto ignition temperature of carbon.

Porsche said although the carbon ceramics breaks are super expensive, according to their testing it should last 2-3 times longer than normal steel breaks, assuming you change the original pads when they should be changed. Good thing is also that they don't rust when standing long time without use. So it should never need the break change in the lifetime if they don't do race track days often.

You can get full Brembo race kits for this car, 380mm front 6 piston and 355mm rear 4 pistons. For about half that much. Even though those Brembo kits are very expensive compared to other cars that use that size

I work in a high end restoration shop. You better have 5k handy just for oil changes... we repaired a rolls hit in the right finder by a cop. Total repair cost was over 40k. For a fender bender not even a full on hit.

I can't unsee the damage to the front splitter. That's a real shame.

I worked at a Chevy dealer in '09 when rhe C6 ZR1 came out. I remember the Corvette tech telling me that in order to determine remaining life on the ZR1's carbon ceramic rotors, you weighed them.

What many used car buyers don't realize, when you buy a high end used car for what you think is a great deal relative to its cost when it was new. You're still maintaining a vehicle with its list price when new. Buyer beware, you have to pay to play.

This is my absolute dream car. I couldn't believe it when i saw the thumbnail. Most beautiful car I've ever seen. So jelly.

I’m in the UK. I bought one of these new ten years ago and have done 40,000 miles in it. I love it, but it is indeed expensive and I pray never to need new brake rotors! Last year, I needed a new clutch at 38000 miles (I drive in town in London a lot) and a new rear light unit (you can’t replace a bulb, it’s a sealed unit). £4500 for the clutch and £1000 for the rear light. Tyres are about £1200 for a set. I’ve had two new front splitter and a new rear diffuser, each one because somebody drove into it. Each is about £2500.

Isnt it amazing how these things are so terrible with their electronics? I loved how every time I had to disconnect the battery on my gallardo, all of my keys stopped working. You have to re-pair them every time you reconnect the battery.

26k for a brake job. I have to do the front brakes on my 05 escalade. About 300 in parts and I'm doing the job my self.

On some cars you switch out the carbon ceramic rotors for regular drill and slotted rotors you really dont need carbon ceramic unless your going to track regularly

I'm believe carbon ceramic brake rotors will last the life of the car. Just don't forget to change the brake pads so you don't ruin a rotor before it's too late! 😳

I love the crabon-fibber. And btw, you can use the carbon ceramic brake-rotors from a Ford Fiesta. It saves you a lot of money

I had the immense pleasure of taking a few special cars (Vantage V8, R35 Skyline, V10 R8, Gallardo convertible and a 911) round the Donington "Heritage" circuit a couple of years ago and there's something special about an Aston, even if it has a Mercedes engine! The Aston was a tad nose heavy but the absolute SHOVE out of it and the sharp handling for the weight was top notch. That V12 sounds absolutely glorious, doesn't it?

I guess I wont complain about my $400 in parts dodge ram brake job.

The benefit of the carbon rotors is that unless you're tracking the car you'll probably never need to change them.

That’s the same as brakes on a newer BMW M5/M6 with carbon brakes. I’ve done a couple brake jobs on them. Have to be very careful and not spill any chemicals on the parts.

So keep 12V hooked up while you change the battery is something new i learned today.

Couldnt you simply attach a second battery to the cables with some alligator clips, while you swap the actual battery for the new battery? The car wouldnt even know the battery had been swapped because the system would never lose power.

Pro tip for carbon ceramic owners: Sell the rotors and pads and buy steel replacements. For an Aston Martin, it'll still be expensive, but more like 5 grand.

The thing is this, the value of the car will go down (rapidly), but the cost of those repairs will stay the same. Sooner or later the cost of the repairs exceeds the car's value and basically totals it. This is why you see cars like this selling for less than $20k in 10yrs. You lease a car like this for 2yrs and move on before the repairs sink in.

Reminds me of some VWs. They sell a cable that you plug into obd2 on the first car that you plug the other end into OBD2 on any second car to supply 12v to the computers so they don't freak out.
