I get what you're driving at. Worthwhile critique of the origin of the term "farm" here, but I see it as plural vs. singular. (A farm of turbines.) I hear "wind farm" and automatically picture the massive vista full of dozens of turbines. Talking of wind turbines, it does not convey a sense of scale. I don't think it's sufficient. I've used another term from the wind industry - arrays...but that doesn't connect with people very well, I don't think - kind of clunky. I saw one document where a person refers to them as turbine "complexes" and I like that better. How about turbine wasteland? I'm open to using a different term, but wind turbines just sounds like we could be talking about 2 or 3 turbines, I want to communicate that there would be hundreds or even thousands of these things in the ocean when we're all said and done. Some long-time viewers have taken to a term I referenced from last year from an old speech given by Maine's own Wind Baron, Sen. Angus King. Speaking of his hopes for the Gulf of Maine, he said approximately, "this won't be a wind farm...it will be a wind RANCH!" And he was quite pleased with himself. Some have taken to that term, although the fact that we're quoting a longtime wind lobbyist may be lost on some. Your thoughts?
