@@tiha6708 Some Stooge fans say Shemp was the funniest; it all depends on who you ask. Shemp worked with Abbott & Costello a few time & would get mad because Shemp got more laughs than he did. Plus, as a publicity gimmick Shemp was once voted "Ugliest Man In Hollywood." "I'm A Beast," he told reporters.

death to columbia pictures for what they did to stooges. the studio almost exploited them,,,,, but that did not avoid the stooges to be great; best comedians of all time. i love stooges since i was a child, now im 35 and still enjoy their films, specially the ones with curly, although i like shemp ones a lot, each of them were special in their own way. these genius will live forever in celluloid and in the hearts which remember them. Keep in mind, this was before tv, and most people really didn't have any means to rewatch older shorts. Unless you went to the same theater multiple times in the same week, most people would never see any given short more than once. As such, most people back then usually wouldn't notice the stock footage from older shorts.

Dee Anderson - After Shemp died, they made new episodes where Moe and Larry were in the new segments and the producers spliced in old segments with Shemp. However, some of the new segments showed a Stooge only from the back and it was supposed to be Shemp. But they never showed his face because obviously it wasn’t him.

Columbia shorts chief Jules White was invariably under pressure to shave costs while still supplying a full slate of two-reelers to exhibitors, hence these 1- and 2-day wonders that wove a few minutes of new footage into reams of stock footage from earlier shorts. Even in those rather dark days, though, the boys were invariably "up" and engaged. I love Larry's delight with the various condiments.

@Cousin It Don't feel too bad; my dad would regularly beat the everloving crap out of me when I was a boy growing up, but he doted on my sister, because I was the oldest child. Because of that, I have a mental disability; although he never admitted it, it came across like I was a big mistake, too. He & my mom have only two grandchildren, & after what I had done to me, I feel my parents don't deserve any more grandkids because I'm not going to repeat the same mistake & instill a fear of me into a child of my own.

Using old("stock")footage was common procedure by this point; The Stooges were the only part of Columbia's two-reelers still producing films by this point, & they were not as proditable as in past times. This was their way of economizing, to make a slim profit, rather than discontinuing them entirely(which happened later, in 1958).

In Idiots Deluxe the boys did the exact same thing, putting every kind of condiment under the sun onto slices of bread, but as expected, are not shown actually eating the bread as Moe comes over & interrupts the other two before they can; he would later be seen biting the tip off the crust off a piece of bread remarking, "If there's anything I like better than honey & ketchup, it's baloney & whipped cream, & we haven't got any!" Lol.

A lot of these Columbia recycle jobs were one day shoots. Andy Clyde did it as well as Joe Besser. In Besser's case, he had a 10 short series where the last four shorts were a remake of the first four! It was simply Columbia saving money in a dying two reel market.

For those last few Shemp years, I wish The Theee Stooges would have left Columbia, followed Edward Bernds and made one hour features the way Bernds did with The Bowery Boys. Watching those Bernds Bowery films, there’s no doubt there were three - five Shemp films we would have versus these stock footage jobs.
