Lyrics
Ah, ha, ha
Oh-oh, yeah
'Til you work
Somebody told me
"Boy, everything she wants is everything she sees"
I guess I must have loved you
Because I said you were the perfect girl for me
Baby, and now we're six months older
And everything you want, and everything you see
Is out of reach, not good enough
I don't know what the hell you want from me, oh
Uh-huh, uh-huh, oh-oh, oh-oh
Ah-ha, ah-ha, doo-doo-doo
La, la, la, la, la
Uh-huh, uh-huh, oh-oh, oh-oh
Ah-ha, ah-ha, doo-doo-doo
La, la, la, la, la
Somebody tell me, oh
Won't you tell me?
Why I work so hard for you
Give you money
Work to give you money (oh)
Some people work for a living
Some people work for fun
Girl, I just work for you
They told me marriage was a give-and-take
Well, you've shown me you can take, you've got some giving to do
And now you tell me that you're having my baby
I'll tell you that I'm happy if you want me to
But one step further and my back will break
If my best isn't good enough, then how can it be good enough for two?
Uh-huh, uh-huh, oh-oh, oh-oh
Ah-ha, ah-ha, doo-doo-doo
I can't work any harder than I do (la, la, la, la, la)
Uh-huh, uh-huh, oh-oh, oh-oh
Ah-ha, ah-ha, doo-doo-doo
La, la, la, la, la
Somebody tell me, oh
Won't you tell me?
Why I work so hard for you
Give you money (oh)
Work to give you money (oh)
Aw, why do I do the things I do?
Tell you if I knew
My god, I don't even think that I love you (la, la, la, la, la)
Won't you tell me?
Give you money
Work to give you money (oh-ah)
Ah, oh, yeah
Tell me
Tell me
How could you settle for a boy like me
When all I could see was the end of the week?
All the things we sign, and the things we buy
Ain't gonna keep us together, it's just a matter of time
My situation never changes walking in and out of that door
Like a stranger for the wages
I give you all, you say you want more
And all I could see was the end of the week
All the things we sign, and the things we buy
Ain't gonna keep us together
Girl, it's just a matter of time
Work, work
Work, work
La, la, la, la, la (just a matter of)
Uh-huh, uh-huh, oh-oh, oh-oh
Ah-ha, ah-ha, doo-doo-doo
La, la, la, la, la
Somebody tell me, oh
Won't you tell me? (Somebody)
Why I work so hard for you
Give you money (oh)
Work to give you money (oh)
Somebody tell me, whoa-oh
Won't you tell me?
Why I work so hard for you
Give you money (oh)
Work to give you money (oh)
Somebody tell me
Won't you tell me? (Oh, please tell me...)
Why I do the things that I do
Give you money
Work to give you money (oh)

@garyhuff6723 GEE... and here I thought I was the only guy "going through it," thinking that this song was almost an omen of things to come the first time I heard it. George really had an opus with this one. Someone had actually put to pen paper and verse the angst I CHOSE to endure. Small world, ain't it?

From 'Bad Boys: and 'Young Guns' to this song - George could write hella-relatable lyrics. My line was, '...and I don't even think, that I love you...' Wham's songs used to express whatever I was going through at the time.

after watching the Wham documentary and listening to the music again and hearing the story, I really feel so sorry for Andrew Ridgeley. He was the driving force in the beginning and really got them their moment and then let George shine and yet everyone ragged on him as just riding George's coat tail. He was pushed to the side for no reason other then George was becoming a star. That must have been difficult for him and then to see him through the years he was and has always been a class act. I wish his story was a bit different for how nice of a person he was and all that he did to get George to come out of his shell!

The documentary shows that without him there wouldn't have been a George Michael and let's not forget that he is a co-writer to his biggest song. It was interesting to see how he was deemed a troublemaker in school - and he probably was as well - yet he volunteered to look after the shy new kid with a weird name. George's parents may have been right, as he wasn't the greatest influence, but he was the best friend their son could ever have.

I saw the Wham! documentary twice and I absolutely loved it. George & Andrew are simply marvelous. I really wish that they did a reunion tour before George went to glory. Their music will forever shine for many years to come and then some.

@@sceneryaesthetic6302 It's such a real, and honest question. So many people have kids, even get married out of some arbitrary obligation. Lot of unhealthy unions start this way. Believing a toxic relationship will somehow improve with the addition of a child. It almost never works out that way. This song gets so much realer as I grow older

Lol well George was quite a deep, complex character apparently. Don't be fooled by catchy hooks and tunes alone.. the lyrics are hard hitting. Listen to George Michael - Praying for Time for example.

I've been a Wham and George Michael fan since the 80s when I was in 6th 7th and 8th grade. This song will always be in one of my top 10 as my favorite songs by George Michael George Michael was a true talent and he did truly appreciate R&B music. And he had the talent for R&B music. I am so glad he shared his talent with us so now in 2024 we can truly listen to his music and appreciate his god-given Talent😊 rest in peace George Michael I truly miss you😊❤😢
