It's always surprising and fascinating how many hard core musicians could look like they're just gonna grab you and punch your face or even hearing their names makes you think they could just hit you with a guitar, but then you start to hear them talk off stage and realise they're some of the nicest most gentle guys.

1:57 - 2:06...that tone is breath-taking, and the articulation of the notes is so clean! Not fast playing there, but none the less, 9/10 guitarists would've allowed a buzz to occur when going from the B to the E and vice-versa, Petrucci has the whole muting thing down!

if you broke a string check the saddle of the string. I bet you find a burr you can catch with your fingernail. #1 reason breaking a string. When you were agitating the whammy bar the string just shifted and it caused it to cut it at point a sharp edge is. It will always be the area where the string breaks that there is a problem. Notice a string never breaks in the middle unless there is a bend in the string. It always happens at either a saddle or nut.

Actually, he is not giving a lesson, he is trying to sell his products. You easily see his endorsed products all over the room and sitting on top of his amp, standing up so you can see what he is using very easily. He even spends a few minutes talking up his newest model of guitar right in your face. Take the video for what it is.

I personally love the Music Man bridge now more than the Floyd Rose. Both are great, but I love that I don't have to worry about the stupid locking nut and locking bridge. I can do all the tricks with the Music Man bridge and never go out of tune either. But, It's neat that they offer this for people who want a JP Model with Floyd though.
@metalwrath4
@metalwrath4 8 жыл бұрын
I agree with you on the music man bridge. I bring my JP60 from standard to drop D all the time with no tuning issues. I had difficulty doing this in the past with locking nut / tuners. Makes sense for Music Man to make a model w/ a floyd though, there's plenty of other options with their bridge.

I follow the guitarist Andy James on Instagram, and when someone recently asked him why he doesn’t use a whammy bar he said: “Whammy bars are for people who can’t bend and do vibrato properly” and I immediately thought of this video. 1st: that was an extremely cunt-y statement 😂 2nd: John is a god who completely proved that statement wrong.

one of the things I loved and still love of his use of whammy bar is the slight hitting backwards to produce that dissonant sound, it sounds awesome, but....I think it shouldnt be done with a cheap floating bridge...I have an Ibanez 520ex with zero point floating trem, which a lot of people say that as non floyd floating bridges go is pretty good (although they could be refering to newer versions) but it lost precision and tightness after doing that trick for some time, and the bar wouldnt hold tightly in its place, it would be kind of loose. Now its all calibrated again, and I want to try it, but I lost my whammy bar :´(

You definitely can if you raise the trem bar. However, a Floyd trem system - or something similar - is better suited for the more dynamic techniques found in the likes of Petrucci, Vai and Satriani, as demonstrated in the video. A Bigsby trem system is designed to make a more subtle impact on the pitch of the guitar strings.

Holy crap did you guys hear the octave overtone that is nit pinch harmonic at 2:45 ? It comes in a second after he attacks the note and does the vibrato... Man The combination of everything he uses gearwise is nirvana to produce this. Plus the hands of Gandalf the black? Lol
