The Elysian sounds beautifully balanced and there's a natural separation between instruments and voice. There's also far more body. The Evo doesn't sound bad but everything is obviously more compressed in comparison.

I must say, the Evo 4 Series (have the 4.3 at home) deliver unreal clarity and resolution at that price! Absolutely mind blowing. I listened to a pair of Burmester B 25 just recently and the smaller Evos were just up in their league, it is simply stunning! In the end I decided to safe a few thousand bucks and went for the Evo 4.3!

Since we live through corona times and all the non-essential shops are closed for live comparison I have read a lot of opinions about various speakers. Your opinions in different comparisons about the EVO4.2 was what made me go for it eventually. I hooked them up to my Harman Kardon amp and I like them a lot. I was about to aim for the Kef ls50 meta's but owned a pair of B&W's Dm602 s3, which are the same size as the Evo's. I felt like the kefs would be a bit of step back since I like the advantages of the 3 way stand mounts. The Evo's are a bit more detailed in the midrange and without the bloated bass of the B&W602/s3 which also makes them great for electronic music. The kind of bass of the 602/s3 works really well for Rock and Jazz but it kind of screws up everything with a 909 kick in it, it is there where it gets messy. The evo has a bass as it should be and keeps the ranges nicely seperated Overall more of a reference speaker then my old B&W's.

The EVO 4.2 was quite a familiar sound to me as I own a pair of 4.3's, and at first I thought there was something missing with the Elysian until I realised that it was a much bigger sound in terms of the venue where the recording was made. It was difficult to discern within all the barriers that KZfaq compression and so forth, but I've got my mind set on Elysian 4's as my next speaker. Thanks for the comparison.

Great comparison. Yes the Elysian sound more adult and more space between the instruments. Only the Elysian are almost 10 times more expansive than the Evo 4. With a musical, a little bit on the lean side and strong amplifier we can get closer to the Elysian with the Evo's

I would put the Evo 4.2 more than 50% by quite a bit. I have the larger 4.4 and cabinet size is quite a factor here. So would expect them to be a good deal closer. I think you need room size to take full advantage especially with the larger Elysian 4. Very large speaker. Elysians are more open sounding but KZfaq probably limits the differences one can hear a lot.

From the demo songs, the Elysian sound "effortless" in reproducing all the details, where there are instances the EVOs have a hard time providing a clear image, although those 4.2s do sound great nevertheless. I do have the EVO 4.4 and they sound fantastic paired with a Nord Purify Amp. The price difference with the Elysians is quite substantial and I doubt my ears deserve anything more expensive, but of course if I had the budget I would order them in an instance.

To me the difference between speakers sounds very small. I use SONY MDR-7506 plugged into my laptop's earphones output. Elysian sound stage sounds a little wider, lower base sounds a little deeper and highs maybe a little better and smoother (or maybe it's only psychological), but, difference between speakers sounds small. Definitely definitely not the 7 times price of the Elysian vs the EVO 4.2 . Maybe in different listening conditions the sound difference would be greater. Thanks for the video and your other videos and the work you put into bringing Hi-Fi reviews.

I'm not sure why you did this, because the massively more expensive Elysian 2 does have rivals in that price point, eg Focal Kanta 1, KEF reference 1, Fyne Audio 701. Also, because of the size of the Elysians with the 4 legged stand, logically you would have to include floorstanders such B&W 702 Signature, Dali Rubicon 6, KEF R11. The poor little Evo's are not really in this race, although by no means disgraced.

Tharbamar, im becoming convince on the Ellysian 2, honestly in almost gonna gun for a proac D2R but now im thinking twice, this time I just want something I can live with for long time, cant keep upgrading, I wanna settle down with a long term speaker. In our country there is no demo of Ellysian 2, its only order basis. So I have no way of demoing, but base on what u say evo is 45 to 55, I need to demo an evo 4.2 to guage it:)funny also that the ellysian demo as if the singer is solidly between the speakers.even viewing on phone literally sounds like a solid person, the evo sounds like a ghost, like a person trap in between dimension, the person is there but not totally there, a silhouette or ghost :). The Elysian range from 1 to 4 is quite something else. After seeing numerous comparison tests with other speakers , some more expensive, the Elysian seems to sail away for the win over and over again. In this test with it's smaller sibling, the Elysian shone in virtually all depts. Natural, no coloration , neutral across the range and yet always musical. There is this thing that the Elysian does wherein it provides an incredibly engaging and immersive soundstage yet always providing that extra bit of focus to the central image in the performance at any given time. Tonality and timbre of instruments is brought with pinpoint precision, plenty of air provided around all elements of the ensemble. Pace rhythm and timing matched with an infectious musical side. The Evo in comparison sounds a bit more mechanical lending a metallic feel to the music. Details both on a macro and micro level are far superior with the Elysian. If there is a shortcoming with the Elysian it is the controversial quality of the stand design. Some retooling needs to be done in that regard.

Great, very useful video. Thanks! One thing, not sure what microphones, positioning and pattern you used, but listening on my Abyss 1266 TC Phi headphones I can say that there are numerous issues that do not result in the Elysian’s sounding good. Some sound like a room resonance phasing issue, while others, inherent mic choice and setup limitations.

Now that I listen with good headphones it seems the Evo sounds in the recording slightly more open but had a midbass bump while the Elysian goes deeper lower but more closed In ? Or is it the recording?

@@Tharbamar Hello. If the Wharfedale Evo 4.2, by analogy, as you did with the Diamond series, increase the slot for the bass, in theory, the sound will become even better?

Surprisingly the Evo 4.2’s sound more like live music although they are less quality. The extra detail retrieval from the Elysian makes the song sound more like a recording than live music. Im bopping my head more on the Evo’s. Also Evo’s are more forward sounding which give a more live sound effect. Elysians seem more laid back. Not sure if this is just video or my ears 🤷🏽‍♂️

FYI Speakers are optimized for my seating position at 14ft. It may look like nothing to many people but this is already a lot of work because sound is recorded with dedicated hires recorder and due to copyright issuesI I can’t do various music.

Elysian sounds more bigger and a bit forward in mid and low than evo as expected he has bigger driver in top end its kinda bit similiar but i can't be 100% sure because youtube already compress this But if you really dont listen you won't really hear the different unless you are very familiar in critical listening

tbh im confiused as hell, since i dont think that the difference between these 2 makes that extra money worth tbh... I'm impressed by the evos, elysian has a more full body sound with a lot deeper bass hence the size. But rather than that the treble and mid region is very hard to even tell a difference at least from youtube.
