The Wharfedale Linton Heritage are a Limited Edition speaker system that celebrates 85 years of Wharfedale History and its a design from the 1960's brought right up to date and offered for a very realistic price of £999 with the matching stands being well worth the asking price as you will want them as well. geni.us/40XnMT
In fact the Pair are so good together if you buy the Linton speakers with the Matching stands the price is reduced to £1099 making for a GREAT DEAL !!
The Linton are an excellent speaker system, with very cool retro looks and styling but with a modern sound but still keeping some of the benefits of the original Linton speakers from the 1970s such as the larger speaker drivers.

Thank you so much for this review. It prompted me to give these speakers a try. I've had them for two months now and absolutely love them. I have rediscovered my music library because of them. Very impressed with their tonal and sound quality. Very easy on the ears so they allow for hours of listening with no fatigue. I'm about to upgrade my speaker wires to Tellurium Q Silver series in order to gain a bit more detail on the highs and get more punch on the bass but that's just me being finicky. One could easily live with the way they sound right now.

I've had my Lintons about a month now with plenty of hours on them. They have a very engaging sound in my system driven by a Rega Elex-R. Bass is nimble, mids and especially vocals open and transparent, and highs are fairly extended at least to my ears without calling attention to themselves. Not the end all in air, soundstage, or detail retrieval but their weaknesses aren't prominent or obvious. They just provide a nice mix of qualities that I never seem to tire of. I'm mainly listening to jazz, folk, bluegrass, classic rock, acoustic, and blues. If you are into metal, dance, hip hop, or classical then I can't vouch. Nice review!

I can vouch they work great for metal and classical. They give metal music that live garage feel that makes even some overly compressed recordings from 2000's manageable. Distortion guitars are especially nice, my brother is a metal guitarist (I also sang in a metal band) and he said, with this speakers he can easily distinguish the gear musicians use. Speed metal is a bit more challenging for Lintons and one needs to couple them with fast transparent amp to get it right. I'm a professional classical musician who works with orchestras and choirs and I compare the real sound with speakers every day. I can say the timbre and the way they attack the tones is as neutral as you can get for that budget - you definitely need a big speaker to imitate big instruments, even a human body. They are dynamic enough to give you shivers when symphonic fortes come in. Though imaging is not their strong note it works great for chamber music and feels natural - more smudged with large orchestras. It's more or less the same in concert halls - you can't distinguish position of each instrument, you just get coverd with a blanket of sound from all sides.

Great review; the most thorough on KZfaq. I've now had the speakers (and stands) for six months and love them. From jazz to rock to R&B, electronic, classical or folk, I've been impressed with how the Wharfedales handle every recording. Admittedly, they are a bit of a throwback to my childhood (I'm 50), so I suppose nostalgia is a factor. But they are quite nice.

I have them connected to a Lyngdorf amplifier with RoomPerfect and they sound fantastic.From highs to the lows, they are very balanced and with RoomPerfect, they image very good with a large and deep podium. They surprise me every time, given the price. They are way better than my KEF LS50 Wireless or my Focals Aria. They put music first, you just sit down, relax and enjoy.. with other speakers I'm always busy with the next step.. now this is over. Oh and my seventies and eighties records do finally sound good..

i heard them today in my local Audio store,it's true that the vocals shine,so rich and present a bit forward maybe depends on the recording but overall fantastic,Bass was also very tight on the one record i put on a bit shy on the other which means this speaker plays what the amplifier feeds it and the quality of the recording itself

Very nice review. It's very detailed and grounded and I appreciate your approach to reviews. I've had these for a few weeks now and really enjoy them. After watching your review I discovered that I had the Left and Right speakers reversed. In my defense the only indicator I could find was a slip of paper in the packaging with L and R on them (may have not gotten packed correctly?). I did think it was odd when the logo was on the inside rather than the outside of the speaker. But then Brits do drive on the wrong side of the road. ;-p. This is my first HiFI system so take my comments with a grain of salt and I only have them paired with a Denon PMA-600NE. These sound fabulous with just about any genre of music I have put through them, except I find that 80/90/2000 harder rock music seems a little harsh through them. I could just be getting older too. This may be because the distorted guitars and vocals can all be focused in mid-range that these do so well. I am still playing around with sources so I may be able to tweak that out. But jazz, pop, classic rock, sound tracks all are amazing. I am with you on the bass. I could see myself getting a sub at some point just to fill in that little bit at the lower end but I am not in a hurry. Overall my impression of them is that they sound "effortless". Like they are just doing their thing with out a struggle.

Nicely presented. I agree with everything you've said. I've heard the new classic JBL , the Linton's and the heritage series Klipsch and other re-issued but improved speakers of other classics. I think they all share several common threads. You hear the music and not just the speaker as opposed with newer high end tech sound. Secondly, they seem to have more energy throughout the music than high end costly speakers that seem to exaggerate the middles and highs, to give a better sound stage and internal seperation, but lack the joy of listening to the complete presentation as with the classic speakers that also offer good bass, that may not require a seperate bass driver, because the classic improved re-issued speakers such as JBL 100's, Klipsch Heresy and Wharfedale Linton's already have enough for most program material. That could be why one of the reviewers at Stereophile wanted to buy and take home a pair of Klipsch La Scalas that he reviewed, because of their musical presentation. What I'm really trying to say here is that in the pursuit of a little more clarity in the middles and highs and soundstaging in today's high end speakers, something is missing in the joy of just listening to the music instead of the speaker itself. Good review.

Great review. Thx. I was curious about these speakers and bought a set about 6 months ago, with the stands of course. :-} I have been running a pair of Vienna Acoustics speakers, about 12K pair. I have been in love with those speakers and was shocked at how well the Lintons held up and in some cases I preferred with certain types of music. The Vienna Acoustics do produce a better image and do disappear in my room better, but the Lintons are a lot more fun to listen to and create a very large sound stage. I am powering them with Parasound JC1 monoblocks and the bass is exceptional. Better than my Vienna Acoustics for sure. In my book these are a keeper and a steal at their price point. I wont be getting rid of my Vienna Acoustic speakers for these. But I do like them both and will enjoy both for some time to come. I appreciate the thought you put into the review and I agree with basically everything you mentioned. Cheers!

First week with Lintons. Coming from Denton 80's it's certainly a natural sound I was looking for but better in all aspects. MUCH more dynamic and detailed, more open, coherent and still very capable of instrument separation - layering. I just haven't quite figured the positioning within my room limitations to get the best compromise between soundstage and imaging. I know I'll get there. Strangely I seem to get less reflections with bigger Lintons than with Dentons. I've filled stands with dark aquarium sand. Haven't noticed any change as I did that the day I got them. Had to tame the bass a bit with eq but I think I could maybe put it back to normal. They're becoming to sound less and less boomy as I put hours on them.

I would love to know how well these stack up to much more expensive 'heritage' speakers, the Klipsch Heresy IV or the JBL L100 Classics? I am very much swinging towards a larger boxier retro-style speaker. I would also like to know how they stack up against similarly priced mainstream speakers such as the Monitor Audio Silvers, Bowers & Wilkins and Wharfedale's own Evo tower model range. Be great if you could do some side by side direct comparisons. Also, I am looking to change my amp very soon from a solid state, Cambridge Audio 851W to a Cayin CS55A Valve amp. Did you try these speakers with valves and if so how well do you think they would suit valves? Thanks for great videos!

These also do sound beautiful in smaller rooms at lower volumes. Instruments & vocals sound clear & large with the Lintons.Keep them off the walls at 18".Type of music and the recording quality counts. Listen & your music taste might receive an upgrade. Budget gear & sweet sounds: Cambridge AXR 100 + CA DacMagic 200m & power conditioning. Under 2k USD Speaker of the year according to Andrew Robinson.

Hello Thanks for all these videos you do. I am witing for some building work to finish then i wish tomsort my hifi out. I had we armarked the evo 4.4 but listening to the demo and review the Linton's sound so much smoother and warmer which is what i like plus seem to separate the instruments better.These are now my bench mark. So what would you say a next step up would be from these please keeping the sound rich and warm In floorstanding speakers ? Say up to 2k or do u have to go higher price to beat the lintons

Hi, Really like your channel. Very professional and thoughtful. I got my first real system at the Cornflake shop in London in 1990. I'm interested in buying these Lintons but they seem to be amplifier/electronics dependent to bring out their best sound. Which amplifiers would you recommend under $1500 that would pair well with these? I've looked at the Cambridge Audio CXA-81 or maybe the Schiit Audio Vidar with a preamp or maybe the Arcam SA10 or the Peachtree Nova 150? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks PS Why didn't you include these Lintons in any of your speaker face-offs?

Thank you Terry for the 3 parts review on Lintons ! I have decided to get them. My 'problem' is with what amp I need to pair them. Due to budget limitations, I have ended up with Audilab 6000N or Marantz PM7000N or the Cambridge Audio CX-A81. Any ideas ? Thanks again.

so finally, I am just curious to ask further - which speaker set you would recommend to an audiophile that is even better than Linton almost in the same price range or slightly high! though I am deciding to make a 5.1 channel with 2 lintons as front and rest all like center, surround, bipole fx series from monitor audio silver 100 line. Your valuable inputs are most welcome and highly appreciated! I personally like paradigm, Monitor audio so far, and Quad but do not get a chance to audition them a lot

Thank you for taking such time to go through this review. I've been seriously struggling to purchase a paid of speakers and integrated amp for a dedicated music only system. I have a large room of about 4000cuFt (23' x 16' x 11' ceiling) and want to fill the room, not listen from one spot. I'm in between the CXA61 vs 81 and something like the Monitor Audio Bronze 500 - but I ran across these speakers and they are so much more my 'style' and to hear they are not so sound focused is a major plus. If you can advise on any other options or if I should just go with these I'd really appreciate it! (Stuck in online reviews hole)

Thank you very much for the great review. You english guys really know how to engineer fantastic sounding loudspeakers😉 My favorite speaker of all time, independently of price and size, is the Harbeth super HL5 plus. Beside the fact, that the Harbeth cost four times more, is the Linton close to the Harbeth? Greetings from Germany.

I just have my Lintons for a couple days. I am not sure about the HL5+ but they are crazy value, great involving sound and replaces my P3ESR for good. As a recovering audiophile I found it great for late night, mid-fi low volume listening compared to my P3ESR. However they have they downsides, to me it was the bass definition and the volume. It is simply too much to my tase. I also suspect these speakers are tuned more for the North American tase, pretty bass heavy in presentation, and they need space ! actually I think they a lot of space. ( I am listening them with port holes closed. ) Also I noticed lifting the upper mid, high as done at the video gives great improvement to the sound.

@@ernestohannya6080 thanks a lot for your evaluation. The frequency response shows a big bass humpback. So I think you are right, when you are saying, they need space. I have only max. 40 cm to the rear wall and no other possibility to put them somewhere else. So maybe the wharfedale Denton or Evo 4.2 would be the better choice for me.

@@dertechniker8867 What I did was , that I closed the rear ports. beware that doing so you loosing slightly the sensitivity of the speaker.
@dertechniker8867
@dertechniker8867 3 жыл бұрын
@@ernestohannya6080 A better possibility is, to reduce the ports to around 1/3 of the diameter by using a foam - you don't loose the bass, you only level the humpback. I have done it with my left speaker because he is not far away enough from the sidewall - the bass was over 6 db louder than the other speaker. Make pipes with the foam that fills the complete lenght of the ports. It really works perfect and cost nothing.

The original Linton cost me £30 in 1971. I heard it's mk1 version which seemed better. Typical speakers of the era. They made way for Dynaco. A25s. If I were looking again I might have done an A25 as a Linton. The Celestion Ditton 44 was more like this new Linton. It's like selecting an average motorcar almost forgotten and relaunching it. I find that rather wonderful. Needless to say old and new are not generic.

Hi Terry, I would greatly appreciate your advice. I have a Primaluna Evo 300 integrated tube amp currently running Polk audio RTI-A7 floor standing speakers. I am streaming Tidal Hifi through a Cambridge CXN V2 currently also. I moved the Polk speakers from a home cinema setup as I wanted to listen to more 2 channel music but I find the Polks to be quite bright as my listening position is only 2.7m away. From my research the Polk RTIA7 is a great home cinema speaker but not a great 2 channel music loving speaker. I believe I have the correct amp to deliver a richer, warmer sound but do you think the Linton's will deliver a more enjoyable music listening experience at lower volumes? I have just auditioned the Lintons and thought they sounded great but they were running on an Audiolab solid state amp. The dealership didn't have any experience with tube amps running the Lintons so I was wondering if you think the Lintons would be an upgrade from my 12 year old Polks? Mainly listen to Piano, Vocal Jazz, Orchestral and acoustic nowadays also.
