What 2 winters have taught me about driving a classic car in winter. My daily driver is a 1975 Jaguar XJ6 and it gets driven year round, in sun, rain and snow! Now after 2 years, what have i learnt? What's it like to drive classic car in winter?

I totally agree with you Adam. I have been driving my 1987 S3 Xj6 for the las 4 winters here in Canada. I have a heated garage which helps but even when she slept outside I had no problem. I watch for rust closely and use rust inhibitor when necessary . She is as in good shape as she was 4 years ago. You’re right, life is too short not to drive our classic cars year around. Thank you so much for sharing your experience !

You covered just about everything in this video Adam. Very good advice and information. I'm not really a fan of all these modern "driver aids" either. I'm a firm believer in the adage that the more you treat people like idiots, the more stupid they become. All these so called safety systems just remove responsibility and ultimately ability from the driver. As you said, the belief that the car will save you is not a good thing. You are responsible for a very large and heavy chunk of metal. Take that responsibility seriously. Sorry, got a bit of a rant going there.

Its an absolute beauty , that green with beige leather ! And being an urly one with all the chroom bits makes it top , the series one is to me still the best . The car started well , dispite the cold ! I admire you using this Jaguar as dayley driver and so doing , let other people enjoy its looks and sound ! To manny classics are stored away as an investment object by gready owners who want money and don't give a shit about the car itself . Let it run , purrrrrrrrr , and kick modern hatchback arses .

I see can’t get over just how smooth and refined the xj6 still is. A friends dad had a two door coupe when I was about 10yrs old, 1979.We had a Triumph Herald at the time, I used to love getting a lift in the Jag it really was a special experience.

Hi, I do like this video, you talk a lot of sense, i am old enough to have driven cars in the 1970`s on, they are just as reliable, if not more so than modern cars. My sisters husband has a 1950 riley that is more reliable then most of their friends new all electric miracles. I drove mgb`s in the 70`s and eighties and in in over 125,000 miles i was let down once by a failed alternator. Keep up the good work, i hope no one reports you to the common sense police!

The most reliable Jaguar is the one you drive every day, whether it's a classic XJ6, an antique Mk IX, a more modern XJ8, or the newest Jaguar out. I daily drove a 20+ year old Mercedes 6.9 for a few years. I had to stop when fuel prices went through the roof, as it only got 6-10 mpg because of my heavy right foot. It was a LOT of fun, though, watching teenagers in their "hot hatchbacks" disappear behind me as I raced off from traffic lights. I'm sure they weren't bragging to their friends that a big, heavy, Mercedes Benz smoked them in a stop light race.

Nice summary, Adam! I fully agree that a lot of the classic cars (or cars in general) takes more damage from NOT being used, than actually using them...even through the tougher days. Where exactly in the south do you live? It was quite some difference in snow depth from your house to the "low-land"! I thought that most of the south of Sweden was "low-land" and mostly flat. Everything is relatively, of course, but as I live in Norway, most of the south of Sweden appears to be low and nearly flat:-)

When I acquired my first Jag (XJ6 -74 BRG swb) in -07 it was late October... No chance it would just remain in the Garage until like May - _so_ eager to savour it; hence, M/S tyres went on, drove it through that first winter. What a feeling 😆 You could definitely daily drive a Classic all 'round the Year; 50+ years ago these _were_ the dailies. So thx for sharing, excellent Vid as usual 🏆

Have fun! These little moments such as driving a classic car can make you smile, especially when life doesn't smile at you. Here in Canada, snow is now gone but April is kind-of a grey month, with lots of wind and rain. My XJ40 is still parked, but I do some mechanical work on it. I remove the self leveling suspension hydraulic pump and valves, as they were leaking and making foam in the oil reservoir. This foam made the power steering not working. Now it is fixed!

@@ajay-xjs Hi! My brother is in Alberta, but I am in Québec. With all the salt we put on the roads here, I don't want to make it rust, as I want to keep it (relatively) nice for the summer. I know it would work just fine, as I started it a few times this winter at even -25 celcius in the driveway.

@@alexandrecouture2462 we don't seem to get much salt here, maybe the big cities and highways but rural areas seem good. If the snow is really bad then it's best to keep it in the garage but climate change means that's a rare thing nowadays

I dont care what anyone says about the old cars they really are the best and if people want to drive them in the snow its there choice because its there car and they can do what they want the only thing i would do just to be sure is wash the car often especially if there is salt on the road become thats what makes cars rust, i always washed my car often during winter just to be sure, as long as you are happy driving it, thats all that matters

1976? holy hell my car is a classic and I didn't even know it!! I thought I was just cheap by driving my old 1981 GMC half ton but it turns out I'm driving a classic, sweet!, but seriously wouldn't be crazy expensive to fix anything in a old Jag? my truck is just a GM half ton, parts for that are everywhere and dirt cheap, the 350 is the most common engine in North America, but that Jag has to have a real price tag attached to it for almost anything unless I'm just wrong

My daily driver during our Canadian winter is a 2010 BMW 535x, nice car, but when the spring comes along I get out my '73 Triumph TR6, my '88 Jag XJS V12 and my '83 Jag XJ6. The XJ6 is a wonderful car to drive, so smooth, like a lady, I call it Fay. The XJS is such a silent power, I call it Bruce, after Batman Bruce Wayne, and the Triumph, I call it Roger, and not for any particular reason, it's just a Roger, a proper English sports car ! Why not drive a classic year round! Your assessment makes perfect sense! Another note: when I learned to drive, none of these aids were available, I learned how to drive on a RWD vehicle like your Jaguar, and I rarely got stuck, unless it was a heavy snow storm. Plus, when driving, whether a manual or automatic, downshifting was necessary to retain control on hills, slippery surfaces, etc. It still applies on more modern vehicles, even with TCS, ABS, VSC, etc. We have had weather similar to yours a few weeks ago in the higher elevations of upstate New York. Hopefully spring will be coming to your neighborhood in Sweden 🇸🇪 shortly!

Great video! I love Jaguar Cars, I outgrew to I also own aXJ6 - but it is aV6 and not a classic, neither does it have that classic wooden steering wheel, my previous on. Nor does it have the classic look - it’s a 2014 Portfolio. I live in rural England, and driving Jaguars on country lanes is great - until you meet a SUV Coming the other way despite all the hi-tech and comfort I sometimes regret that I haven’t kept one of my previous Jags.

the last ten years i've driven a late model XJS convertible everyday including winter and its been utterly reliable Unfortunately i decided to treat it to some (relatively minor ) bodywork repairs and a respray this means two things; i don't drive it as i am precious about it and it leaks where the seals were taken off and put back, so in a way it was better when it was a little bit tired looking; at least i could enjoy it daily
