What 3 EQ Plugins Do You Use Most?

In this video I discuss what 3 EQ plugin I use most and why I use them. FabFilter Pro Q3 is an EQ I use a lot for it's ability to do everything I need from an EQ. Tone Project Michelangelo EQ is more about colour and saturation. Lastly the most unique EQ in the list, Eventide Split EQ. I highly unique EQ that allows me to split the band into tone and transients. All 3 are unique and have their own sound and ability.

Three great choices there. I would add that Wavesfactory SPECTRE does things that no other digital EQ can touch. Similar to a hardware Carnaby EQ, but it has an incredible de-emphasis feature. SPECTRE on high quality mode does things that even analogue EQs cannot do.

That's what I like. If I'm in the box I want something that analogue EQs can't do.

@@EagleEyez759 dynamic EQ, built in spectrum analysers, side chain ability, mid side processing etc etc.

@@AudioAnimalsStudio I dont think thats what he meant. "SPECTRE on high quality mode" would imply that its a sound he is refering to, not the features that come with the plugin itself. I believe those features would be available in any mode. (Correct me if im wrong about that tho)

@EagleEyez759 I'm referring to plugins vs hardware in general. He's referring to over sampling I assume. All features will be present in all modes.

Ableton or Studio One Stock. But the Kirchoff , Amek 200, Soma. But severe GAs, All sorts of eq"s. Works great on mpmidi controller. And off course hardware. You really never get bored...

Nice. I been wondering about the Michaelangelo EQ. It has a good rep, as far as I can see. Maybe at some point you would be up to showing us how you use the plugin version of the Michaelangelo...? :)

Yeah I will do. I didn't do a review on it previously as I didn't enjoy it too much. But since getting the hardware and taking the time to learn and understand that, I started to really enjoying the plugin.

No, not yet. I got in touch with them regarding testing it out but haven't heard anything back. So I can't say if it's good or not until I do. Lots of people have recommended it, though. So it's one I want to check out.

@@AudioAnimalsStudio I’m going to check out the Michaelangelo I never need anything more than those two if I want saturation I use something else, but I have tried the Soundtoys EQ with drive 😊

I see REal Home Recording in the comment section. Anyway, what I think the OP is missing here is that he has an unfettered obsession with EQs. The magic REALLY DOES come from the SATURATOR plugins IN LIEU of the EQ plugins. A good Sat plugin like Acustica Audio's JAM or MIA Laboratories Pi & Phi MKII or IIIr really does the EQlisation within the Tube-Tape-Transformer gains. IJS though.

Sure but that doesn’t make them a scam? So if it’s all “just curves” some of it comes down to usability and GUI interfaces then. Oh wait, but there’s also different functionality like sidechain, dynamic and mid-side functionality. Oh wait, there’s also eq plugins with analog modeling out there as well. So, your comment just doesn’t make any sense.

@@asfnash17Yes is it does. Most of them do the same but different graphic. About analog modeling….You probably have no idea what that means or what the process is. Adding a noise button or some harmonics and they call it analog modeling. I call it marketing. Btw….Have you lived under a rock lately?

At the risk of ending up talking to someone who is clearly unable to comprehend this, I’m gonna spell it out for you because clearly you are the one who doesn’t understand why there are different eq plugins; - GUI interface differences aren’t just “different graphics”, they also lead to completely different usability and flows to use and functionality. - Many eq plugins have different features as well, like mid side, dynamic and masking features. Some of them don’t have all of these or don’t work the same - plenty of eq plugins also have modeling embedded in them. Have you ever used a Pultec plugin? It’s not just “curves” as you say, it’s also sound modeling” Saying eq plugins are just curves so it’s a scam is like saying all potato chips are a scam because they are all crunchy. Are you that dense?
