You must take into account the fact that the standards are far higher now than when Taylor was winning everything. There is too many players these days that could win a tournament so vmg will most likely never get near Taylor's title wins but vmg, when at his absolute best is at a different level to Taylor. You know what I really love about Taylor's darts? If you look at his eyes when he is throwing....every dart means something to him, even if he's way behind in a leg. He's not a rhythm player, he grinds each dart out which o think is harder to do if you're not a rhythm bang bang band merchant. He's just the best. He annoys me a bit sometimes but he is a phenom

This has nothing to do with the birth year. Taylor started professional Darts in the late 80s/early 90s at the age of around 30. van Gerwen was already a pro as a teenager and very spoiled when it comes to opportunities he got. Back in the 80s it was a lot harder to properly train and really concentrate on Darts. So to answer your question: I guess MVG will end up being an 8-time world champion.

@Kani Fuker Phil Taylor is the greatest of all time. No one was ever that consistent and dominant. MVG can never beat that. And YES, MVG was spoiled and pampered cause he got a lot of sponsors at a very young age whil Taylor was a working class man starting very late. And btw: Taylor had to pay back all the money he got from Bristow. So earned NOTHING for years. Taylor became a full time darts player (professional!!!) in the late 80s, like I said, and had a tougher way up. MVG became a pro in 2008 and needed 6 years to win his first world title while Taylor won it after just about 2 years after going pro. He dominated the sport for about 2,5 decades and turned darts into an mainstream attraction. Lowe, Reece and Jocky, with all due respect, didnt do that. They made it popular, but not even close to the extend that Phil Taylor has done it. The Power is the reason why MVG is a millionaire just like several other players today. PS: I didnt know that MVG wants to retire at the age of 35. So dont be an arrogant prick pretending to know a lot about this sport just because you allegedly played some tournaments decades ago. That just proves my point that he will never be as good as Taylor and might not even get past Bristow or Barney when it comes to world titles which is what really matters.
