Almonds, oatmeal & cream sound like a good breakfast but this time we're putting it on our skin! I picked out some recipes (or receipts as they used to be called) from the 2 books The Toilette of Health, Beauty, and Fashion (1832) and The Mirror of the Graces, (1813). Let's see what they look like as they are recreated 200 years later. Like always, watch till the end to see images of the actual receipts as they appeared in the original book.

Do you think a "normal" housewife had the time or/and money/products to make all these beautyproducts? Or was this just for the ones with lots of money? Love the way that the oatmeal didn't go to waist and you had your personal feeding-"servant" 🤣

We make hair and face masks every week-- simmer flax seeds & oats in milk or water, steep in dry herbs, strain it through a stocking or old sock, then whip in raw honey and oils. Use more and heavier oils/butters for curly/kinky hair and dry skin, smaller amounts of light oils for straight hair and oily skin.

@@filthypeasant9524 To be fair, a lot of women look the same whether they do this stuff or not. Most of us just do these things because they relax us. The only part of my hair and skin care routine I’d actually look different without is moisturizer, because my skin gets dry and cracked without it. The things that makes women look different, but are actually quite bad for us are makeup, hair products, (gel, smoothing cream, hairspray) and hot tools (blow dryer, curling iron, straitener). A lot of women actually have damaged skin and hair from these products, and instead of not using them and letting their skin and hair heal, they continue to use them to cover up the damage. I’m sure some women are going to get upset and disagree with my comment, because it goes against modern cosmetics, but it’s a fact that modern skin and hair products are designed to make people look good in the moment, not long term.

My wife would take oatmeal baths if she had a rash on her legs or arms. She has skin allergies when it comes to certain fragrances and even grass. She had a terrible grass rash from walking our dogs back in 2018. She always used to take oatmeal baths using "colloidal oatmeal". Works like a charm. Even made her skin smoother and softer.

That pomade is the old time cold cream. The cold water was key to it (off the outdated hot and cold theory of disease, most skin troubles were “hot” conditions that needed cold ingredients to treat. The pumpkin and melon seeds are also part of the idea.)

My mom used to take raw oatmeal and cold water and put it on my sunburns as a kid. For minor 1st degree thermal burns only; because I was very prone to burning and wouldn’t be in the direct sun for more than 45 minutes per day so it never got to the 2nd degree burn point. Stuff works really well that is for sure.

Interesting video ----never knew what was used in their skin care back then. Did you have to make one or more of the products over or was it one & done? Lots of work to make beauty items so glad I didn't live back then. Y'all amaze me learning plus doing all the frontier things but I enjoy watching them all.Bless your hearts!!❤

My only question yes how does Ron fit into that tub????? I know I couldn't fit into it laugh out loud... But in all honesty you guys are absolutely the best video on KZfaq. I think this is probably a house they film in rather than live in every day considering there doesn’t seem to be any sort of clutter or everyday items around the house

@@EarlyAmerican Who knows, some dreams do come true. I already have the cat required though, and the oatmeal was a success, so that's a start! Be well!

This video is too sweet, I can't even deal with both of you! Gosh, thank you for making it! I've tried a homemade oatmeal face scrub and we also used egg whites as a skin tightener when I was little....way better and more natural than the chemical products we buy today! And your little black kitty is so sweet too, just like mine! Bless you both! 🥰

This scene, beautiful. Would love to have seen you lie back and enjoy all your hard work. Taking in the warmth of the tub water, the scent of almond in the air… just drifting off in the tub. I’m going to try that!

Thank you for all your living history videos, I especially appreciate how you convey the detail and nuance nonverbally, I learn much better that way. Quick question: What's the procedure for emptying the barrel of water once the bath is over? If you take it out bucket by bucket does it matter the drips on the floor?
