Tarja's necklace is called "Planetoid Valleys" by Finnish sculptor and jewelry designer Björn Weckström 1969. It became famous when it was used in Star Wars as a cermonial necklace for Princess Leia. In this video Tarja was indeed the original valkyrie guidng the fallen heroes from the battlefield to Valhalla where they'll become einherjar.

Wow I almost forgot there was a 2005 version of this song ! Believe it or not I still prefer the 1999 version even though it was less polished. Tarja's voice (the highs are definitely different) has matured in the 2005 version but the old one hits different. I stopped actively listening to Nightwish a long time ago because reasons, but this period of "old Nightwish" (anything before "Once" for me), "Wishmaster" especially, will always have a special place. All singers have been great so who is "best" is not up for debate, Tarja has always been my favourite however, because at the time she was also the face of the band.

I saw Nightwish in the Arena Treptow in Berlin some years ago, it is an old bus depot, very large and very industrial, an not really made for concerts (but many play there nevertheless) and this song, and Tarja, made the venue totally magical.

This song has always been one of my favorite of Tuomas' ballads. This music video has often times reduced me to tears for the context. I think it represents the struggle of life the heartache, pain and burnout. I can only imagine how entranced Tuomas must have been to have these lyrics come to him like this during the 1999 eclipse. I was 11 but I remember it clearly as it went very dark here in Greece where I live. The video for me represent so many things, so many levels of human emotion, it's so perfect. One of my all time favorite ballads! Sung by both Tarja and Floor. I also like this video they made for this version. The outfits fit the NW guys really well! 😊 Tuomas hasn't written many songs that someone else has ordered, but when he writes, they go straight to the heart (e.g. Sleeping Sun, Kiss While Your Lips Are Still Red, Lohtu)

Glad you liked it. If you haven't already, I'd like you to react to some of the songs from the End Of An Era tour with Tarja. Nemo, Sleeping Sun, The Siren, Ever Dream, Ghost Love Score and Wish I Had An Angel. She had a throat infection at the time and was ill. All the while giving this ethereal performance. Also their cover of Walking In The Air of the Wishes To Eternity DVD. Tarja is Nightwish, through and through. Whether she's currently a part of the lineup, or not. The music and the songs were made for her voice. Just like the band was made because Tuomas understood Tarja's capabilities as a classically trained vocalist. Her operatic tone is too much for some people, much like Floor's and Anette's mainstream pop-rock sound won't fit in with the original material from Tarja's era. Floor over-screams the Ghost Love Score and Nemo IMHO. I still enjoyed those performances. I like Floor and Anette for what they can do, but Tarja's forever the number one for me. Just like first love, you'll never forget it.

This single is one of many , many gems from the genius songwriter Tuomas. Tarja`s classical voice fits so well in this dreamy this song imo. There is also another earlier official music video of this song with Tarja.This is the later "cooler version"😄 I think i read somewhere\sometime that Tuomas personally didn`t rate this song very much. I don`t know why. It`s a beautiful song.

With Nightwish it will be a long, long time before you've "heard everything"! Probably not until you've literally heard everything. This is one of the songs which is definitely Tarja's for me. Not to diss Floor's performances, which are lovely, but there's something extra special about Tarja's, live and in studio. (And actually my second favourite singer for it would be Susanne Scherer of MoonSun!)

Sleeping Sun is my favorite Tarja era song. It's often a song I listen to at night, as I'm going to sleep. But, I have never seen this video before. Definitely gives you a different view on the subject matter of the song.

This song was originally written to commemorate a solar eclipse, so I'm not sure why Tuomas created this music video, but for some reason the battlefield motif fits it very well.

I do love this vid, however I've learned it is not representational of the original reason for the song. Apparently, and I'm sure I've only a stunted version of the story, Tuomas was asked/commissioned to write about an approching solar eclipse and this was the outcome. The reference in the lyrics to 222 days of light has something to do with when the eclipse was to take place in the year. Glad you did this version. It was my 1st introduction to the song and I'd not seen it since. Floor loves this song and they did it live at Wembley.

Well, thanks to this channel, and to your Patreons, I have now had the pleasure to see this video, which had slipped my attention (NIGHTWISH had a couple of them for this song, seemingly, and I saw the other one). It is gorgeous for its time, with the band playing eclipse-struck Crusaders with passion. :)) \m/ I believe, for their "End of an Era" DVD performance of this song, Tarja even changed into this stylish "white angel" dress. And still, as far as musical communication, the version of Tampere 2015 with Floor at the helm is my go-to when I long for this particular composition.

This song is about the 1999 solar eclipse in Europe. That was such a magical moment. I was in the city and in complete awe celebrating the moment together with complete strangers. Darkness in the middle of the day. And of course no streetlights on or anything. It was so surreal. Something you'll never forget and makes you feel grateful to be able to have witnessed. // Tuomas had to write this song last minute and it's not one of his favorites because of that reason. I believe it was actually for a movie and wasn't supposed to end up on their own album. Later they added it anyway because of its success.

The happy accident of a song. Without this there probably would not be a Nightwish as we know it today :)

This was undated version that was supposed to be more accessible. She tones down the opera delivery. I kind of prefer the original video where Tarja is just kid. She looks like a 90’s mall goth and this voice just blows you away.

In my humble opinion, this is one of the only 2 songs that Floor has not been able to improve. I'm glad Tarja still stands for something.

I love the 1999 version. Her bel canto style in Nightwish era was so beautiful, can't figure why did they decide to go more contemporary style. I wonder if End of an Era concert is the only live concert where they went with the 2005 version. There are Tarja's solo era songs, especially Chritmas music, where I love her contemporay style singing, but otherwise I prefer her early bel canto.

This was the first NW song I ever heard many years ago and I instantly fell in love with their sound and Tarjas voice and style. Went deep into the rabbit hole and started loving everything Tuomas created. I didnt listen that much to them when Annette was their vocalist as I didn't really like her voice with Nightwish. A bit too poppy in my opinion even though the albums during her era were very good. Wacken 2013, enter Floor!! That's when I fell back in love with Nightwish more than ever before. Have become a huge Floor fan after discovering her, she's my favourite vocalist all categories. I love Sleeping sun with both Tarja and Floor, they both sound divine when singing it in my opinion. Very happy to follow you as you dive deeper into their discography and also get into Floors past bands and solo stuff. I got into Revamp and After Forever after she joined NW, and I'm glad I did, since I really started enjoying and loving both bands.

This one live with Floor is a ray of setting sunlight seen a blue jewel. Im from way, way, above the arctic circle so this song hits me just right. The one that I listened to back in the early 2000s until I fell away from the band because I couldnt comprehend it continuing without, Tarja, then right before covid I hear GLS with Floor and here we are.
