It always makes haying more enjoyable when the hay is thick and lush!

Early harvest is happening this week at our southern farm 1500 acres of barley. our home fields will take another 2-3 weeks. now i hope i can get train cars 3 weeks sooner then what we expected. custom cutters expected to arrive by the 28th. in rr cars or on a pile on the ground the pigs don't mind a little dirt in their feed.

Was wondering about the strips of heavier grass towards the beginning. Quite funny seeing the difference what some manure makes. Gotta wonder if there's ever a perfect machine for cutting hay in all conditions. Last thing I used was a Gehl haybine. Was nicer than just a swather though. Noticed a little moisture on the tires when you turned around by the slew bottom. Nice to see some moisture yet.

I think a good haybine is the best of both worlds... disks will cover ground faster, bars will be the best option in dry conditions.

Is it faster or not with the haybine compared to the old sickle mowers? They were wider? But i guess they dont handle the heavy stuff as well and also no conditioning...

Horse a piece when going down the field... Headlands go faster since can turn right around and go. Cuts a bit cleaner in the heavier/matted stuff. Same size... the D9s are 18', the haybine is 18.6'

Hello. I just bought a hw325. Just curious how you know how fast to set the haybine speed. I’m coming from a hydro swing that really just gets set by pto tractor speed
@farming4g
@farming4g Ай бұрын
Should be just like your hydroswing, but you can vary your ground speed much easier and adjust your engine speed as such. Does yours have a knife speed sensor on it? That'll help you on how fast the head is running. I forget what the haybines are rated for max speed. I'm guessing between the HW series and the H8000s it should be similar... If it's heavier crop, I'll be at around 18-1900 RPM and the knife speed might be around 1400 strokes... if doing a light 2nd cut alfalfa crop might be as low as 1600 RPM and the knife would be less that 1200 strokes. The reel speed you'll have to estimate based on ground speed, crop conditions, and engine speed.

@@wallyyuriy8912 fyi, I just looked up the rated max knife speed for my 18HS and it says 1800 strokes/min with no load. I'm guessing the older heads should be similar? Still should be able to run the engine close to max rpm if desired if wanting that max speed, but save wear and tear running it slower too on conditions. At 1800 rpm for me it's around 1400 strokes is what the monitor reads.

@@farming4g I don’t think I have a knife speed sensor. Just got the unit home today

Is yours "draper ready"? If it is, it has two switches on the arm console to adjust left and right side float pressures. If one side is dropping first, either up the pressure for that side or lower the pressure for the other. If that doesn't change anything, you might have a hydraulic valve issue. If yours only has 1 float pressure switch (non-draper ready) then either the header is imbalanced or there's an issue with a hydraulic valve. Maintain a high enough float pressure so the head isn't heavy. I think the manual says around 150 lbs it should take to lift either side of the header by hand give or take, and it should return back to its position... it makes it so it can float over bumps and such easier. Also having higher float pressures you will need to adjust the Header Drop Pressure to compensate if the head doesn't lower to the ground or lowers very slow.

Guards are good and knives? If they are check the knife travel... Maybe the knife is not stroking far enough for a clean cut? Might have to read in the manual to check and other adjustments. Check the knife holddowns to make sure they are in adjustment and not too much slop.
