@@crystalenergy7904 not really, many critics praised his performance too as one of the best part of the movie. He's the lead role, obviously he's gonna be in just about every spotlight and many critics pin point his performance good enough. His singing was a bit autotuned but his acting was really good. Most of the review for his performance was just him got overshadowed by his co stars which is true but that doesn't mean he's bad

@@4deleDaz33m I read every review and majority of them said he was OK or that he was bad. thats not praise. He's also been accused of assaulting a minor, So i don't really care. Shouldn't be getting praise at all after that.

I don’t think he should be canceled but I don’t think he’s that great in it. DeBose as Anita is wonderful. Rachel Ziegler is good too - she is like walking innocence.

I understand they shot the movie before the allegations came out; it was too arduous, expensive, and nearly impossible to reshoot; the movie highlighted the other actors' achievements and performances (especially the broadway professionals)--but do we REALLY HAVE to bring him onto talk shows and act as if nothing happened? Like he didn't just (albeit allegedly) assaulted many underage young women, and then just hid for a year with no consequences at all??

@@onelesshelper because he was hot off Baby Driver and very popular when he was cast, he can also sing very well and the Chemistry with Rachel must have worked or else Steven wouldn’t have cast him. He can be a horrible person but you can’t say he wasn’t talented or wanted in every role at the time cuz he was… maybe you never liked him but that has nothing to do with it lol

@@onelesshelper because Ansel is talented, he probably did a great job with his audition, he's an A lister so he obviously can attract audience to watch the movie after seeing his previous work, and his can sing too, he even sing on this show with Jamie Foxx and he ain't that bad. Spielberg obviously wanted the actor to sing on set instead of dubbing like the original so yeah he can sing very well. And tested a chemistry between him and Rachel Zegler and both worked out very well. There's process that he needs to go through and he did a great job with it

Because she was in love with his status and got very upset when he didn't give her a bite of that apple so she decided to avenge him by making up the most unoriginal story in the book (months after it happened, in a shocking timing twist): accusing him of sexual assault which can never be proven really because even if she had a bad experience, it's HER experience. Sex is subjective and can be experienced very differently by the two people involved in the act itself. Notice Ansel didn't accuse her of anything in return, he simply said that they knew each other and that the sex was mutual and consensual. Maybe she expected something of him and he couldn't provide, maybe he had a bad day and was a little less pleasant in bed, maybe they didn't know each other yet and made mistakes because they weren't ready for intimacy. There could be a million reasons why she felt that it wasn't appropriate. If anything, listening to both sides (although we know which side is right in this case) this whole thing feels more like really bad communication between a boy and a girl translated into sex, it doesn't stop when you stop talking. On the contrary. Our bodies can't lie. So yeah, I think its pure bullshit on her part.

Favourite part of the movie was when Maria kissed Tony (Ansel Elgorts character) and he said that he usually does things by the book. I laughed a bit because we all know thats not true for Elgort. I suppose it shows how good of an actor he is.

I'm not necessarily defending the guy. But it seems like everyone is jumping on the Ansel Hate Train without actual proof. This can be so damaging.

I would like clarification- From what I have read they are just allegations, right? Right now the women who accused him shut down her whole account and hasn’t posted since, but then other women went on to accuse him. But has anything been proven yet? Do we know for sure if these allegations are true?

He was already contacting the girl before her 17th birthday, and if he would have sent or asked for nudes, she has grounds to sue him. Sometimes things can be just wrong or creepy even if they are legal.

@@ja4645 Kevin Spacey had a pretty substantial role in All the Money in the World. They cut him out entirely and reshot all of his scenes. Chris D'Elia was also cut out of Army of the Dead entirely, and replaced by Tig Notaro who was put into the scenes with VFX. They can easily do it, they just didn't want to. Also, West Side Story is a quite an ensemble film, with equal screen time for a few characters. I dont think his role feels like the lead.

Everybody always complains about "cancel" culture but you know what? First of all - I think more proper name should be an "accountability culture", and second of all - unless people like Ansel Elgort that have allegedly SAed a young girl do get this kind of treatment on a late night show - I think that accountability/cancel culture is still needed.

I disagree. In the case of "accountability" culture as you like to call it, should/would act when a person is found guilty not before that. In the case of Ansel Elgort, he has not been found guilty, so people are attacking him and basically everyone around him, out of ACCUSATIONS. Something that hasn't been proven, so no. This isn't a case of "accountability" culture because that doesn't exist. Do you know what does exist? Cancel culture. A group of people who go out of their way to target other people. Most of the time the people they attack are innocent, and they are just looking to attack for no apparent reason.

@@blueshrimp6716 no, actually. They might press charges, but in most instances they only bother to do that if they think he’ll be convicted. In this case, they might feel because the case was on the statutory line, ie him 20 and she 17, that it wouldn’t be worth their time. And his messaging of other underage girls isn’t technically illegal either. Same reason James Franco wasn’t convicted or charged with anything. But as he has been shown to have done the things he has been accused of, largely, he is also unable to sue for defamation, because it doesn’t count as defamation if there’s enough evidence that it’s true. So while he is able to escape prosecution for what he’s done, so are his accusers. :)

People criticising Ansel Elgort need to remember he hasn't been convicted in a Court of Law. It's innocent until proven guilty, and he hasn't had any claim brought against him. Ansel has denied the allegations, and since nothing has come from the investigation he should be left alone and allowed to work.

You should always believe the victim first. There are instances where someone actually had this happen to them, but people accuse them of lying. If someone is lying about a victim it is quite obvious and almost always gets figured out. Do not invalidate them just because you’re worried about the possibility of them lying.

You should approach all allegations seriously but to say you should believe everyone instantly would be foolish. The Court of Law exists for a reason. I believe the matter was also cleared between Ansel, Disney and the girl since the tweets have appeared (which have been since deleted by her too). That is the only explanation for Disney not blacklisting him from the press junket. And I do know people personally who deal with legal manners like this for another big studio, and Disney would not take a situation like this lightly. It was most likely resolved privately. Whether it was lying or misunderstanding or really anything (including truth), we do not know and we most likely never will.

This story was from a year ago and it hasn't gone anyhere since. The lady deleted her tweet. She hasn't come out and said anything else on the matter. At the end of the day SHE is the one AND only one who should speak on the matter. All of you are taking the voice away from the victim like you always do and all of you are say the same thing you always do. Showing how much of a circus this is. If it is true it needs to be proving and this chat myself included are not the ones to do it. We all know the justice system is fucked but if it is so fucked why hasn't any one one in this chat actually done something to make it better and fair for everyone? Simple it's much easier to bitch about the problem than it is to actually fix it. Well if you not going to fix it than the problem will continue. If you have CONVERSATIONS on how to fix it to where actual people who are truly guilty go to jail and people who are just accused or falsely accused don't suffer the same as someone who is truly guilty than I feel you are going in the right directions. He was 20, when he dated a 17 year old. Their age gap was just *3*, and both, young adults. Think about this: if they’d dated just a few MONTHS later, none of this would have transpired and you’d not have given a f. She was 17, not 11. The part of the brain that comprehends consent wouldn’t just magically sprout out in the few months she had left. That you want to cancel this boy over a 3 year age gap relationship, over the mere technicality that she wasn’t 18 yet, is disgusting. He was just 20, not some shrewd and conniving 40 year old. Both young adults. For once, look beyond the inflammatory news headlines and THINK. Think, if this boy deserves to have his life be over because of a 3 year age gap affair. And by the way why is Taylor Swift not accused of that? Because 20 and 17 is much more understandable than 23 and 17. 20 and 17 they are both still very young and mentally that 3 year gap doesnt make a lot of diference at all. Now 23 and 17 is a huge maturity disparity and the development mentally between those ages is huge so yeah the Taylor Swift case is much worse, so lets bring that same energy

Even if "there was no proof" and everything went as he described, he is a massive, predatory jerk who used a sexually inexperienced girl for self-gratification and then discarded her like a tissue. And on top of it, he "feels ashamed" only when the story surfaces. Disgusting.

So, if you get pulled over, should the cop tell you "other drivers were speeding along this road yesterday, so I just pulled you over because I assumed you were too"?
