With a pencil and a pen Akira Toriyama changed the lives of millions. His stories are not only fun, but also inspire people to do things. To draw, write, make friends, train, fight, discuss. He is a legend and I will forever remember him for all the great things Dragon Ball did to me...

I was REALLY excited for Daima. Toriyama was supposed to be HEAVILY involved, more than with Super. It would be a love letter to the fucking OG Dragon Ball.. but then this happens.. I was so excited because it was supposed to be a 40th anniversary series, it would have been epic, it would have OG Dragon Ball comedy, fighting styles etc.. Life sucks man. I hope he finished the script so we could see the final work of Akira Toriyama, the mangaka legend. Also, it is the year of the Dragon in japan, they have 11 different zodiac animals so every 12 years the cycle repeats, the next year of the Dragon will be in 2036. It's kinda poetic, but still sad, I wish he lived till his 80s or 90s at least.

Toriyama took on an apprentice (Toyotaro) and let his closest executive at Shuesha (Akio Iyoku) form his own company to manage Dragonball's animation/movies and video games. Toriyama had to have been feeling like this was a possibility sooner than later. And because Toriyama took those precautions - Dragonball is going to live on. A lot smoother than what Berserk went through.

As someone who got sent away from their family to live with complete strangers, I can without question say Akira Toriyama indirectly saved me with Dragon Ball. The times were i was really really down and trauma set in, i knew if i picked up one of his mangas, I'd feel better. I'd have this "lifeline" i could use to chase away thoughts that, if I were to act on, would no doubt lead to me not being here today. This man is a hero and an iconic legend and I love him to death.

Dragon Ball has bonded so many people and inspired millions of lives. He paved the way for many artists and set the standards for everyone else to follow. Without Akira Toriyama then anime and manga may have not ceased to reach its global outreach. On March 1, 2024, we lost one of the few remaining legendary comic book/cartoonist creators (Manga ka). Thank you for bringing happiness to millions of people through your artistry and captivating stories. This man left an indelible imprint in my childhood that will forever stay with me as one of the happiest momentos of my life. Words are not enough to describe the immense positive influence his creations had in my life. The lessons, the laughs, the emotions, the memories, the friendships and bonds we built while enjoying the same passion for the stories that brought us together in a way that today's entertainment media can never reach. I strongly believe that good men keep their inner child alive throughout their lives. This single perspective is only possible due in grand part to Akira Toriyama Sensei and his creations. To be able to influence my life in such a way is remarkable. To think he was able to do the same for millions of people across the world is truly astounding. Akira Toriyama Sensei, may you rest in peace. Your legacy lives on in the hearts and minds of the millions of people your stories touched across the expanse of the globe as well as multiple generations. The world is a sadder place with your departure. "Always work hard, study well, eat and sleep plenty that is The Turtle Hermit's way. I honestly bursted into tears after hearing that he passed away. I can’t believe he left us! He had so much more to give! I can’t recall the amount of times I fell into dark moments in my school years only to turn to Dragon Ball Z for motivation. Even now, it still has a major influence in my life. I honestly feel like a part of me died with him. Honestly it doesn't even feel real to me. I had to sit and think about it for awhile. Dragon Ball Z is what made anime cool in the west! Had it not been for it, many of the anime that currently exist would have never happened. A lot of them took inspiration from it and created their own fictional worlds to tell their own stories. I'm sure there are so many forms of music, anime, and just entertainment in general around the world that probably wouldn't even exist if it wasn't for his work to inspire and influence so many people. So many Athletes, creators, and many more that were moved in some way, shape, or form by his works. It hurts to type all of this, real heavy knot in my stomach right now. The gravity of this is slowly setting in. I never really stopped to consider that Akira Toriyama was behind all of those moments and many more. There was so much emotional weight in that anime, and ultimately in that man. RIP to the Godfather of all manga writers and drawers. He was the goat manga creator of them all!!

The amount of influence Akira had on my life is surreal. The world of Dragon Ball has been a part of my life since I was 4 years old... He taught little me how to be strong in the midst of adversity. Relationships and experiences have been cultivated that I cherish deeply, all because of the work and dedication of one man who had a vision. I am saddened by his passing, but I know his work will live on and continue to impact all of us. It is crazy to me how much impact someone can have on so many people's lives without ever having met them or having a personal connection with them. I feel like I lost a piece of me... May Akira Toriyama's work continue to bring us joy, motivation, and strength. RIP to a legend 🙏

He made a huge impact in my life as well. I started off with Dragonball when I was about 10 years old before I ever knew what anime was. It was my very first anime. My brother and I got extremely close through anime and Dragonball. We watched all of DB/z/GT/Super/movies/Budokiai games/Budokiai Tenkaichi games. I am going to be 36 this year. Thank you for 26 wonderful years Akira Toriyama senpei. This hurts a lot more so for me because my brother passed away last June and losing Toriyama in less than a year really hurts. He would've been 69 April 5th...R.I.P to the ultimate Legend!! I'll see you you and my brother when it's my turn to go to Other World.❤🙌 🙏

Dragon ball helped me to go through the losses of loved once when I was a kid. It has many themes about loss and acceptance that were very comforting. Kid Goku sparring with grandpa Gohan was a big one. Goku not wishing his parents back and live his own life was another big one.

RIP Toriyama-Sensei Dragonball was the first manga I collected, and it's what started a lifelong love of anime and manga. I've read all of Toriyama's work and it remains my favorite of all time. DBZ was what first got me friends in elementary school, and what got my parents to get cable for the first time in my life after the first 10 years. I was even willing to give away my PS2 if I wasn't able to get DBZ Budokai 1, after it was announced. That's how invested I was in the franchise. Without Toriyama's work, I wouldn't know what anime was, nor would I have such a passion for it today. It's so shocking to hear this news, and all I can do now is to enjoy all the Dragonball content I can in remembrance of this great man

@eobardthawn6903 yeah GT just wasn't ideal but i loved how the characters have grown, Super was more like a love letter to dbz and this was the reason it just didn't feel like a well deserved continuity to dbz because the characters didn't grow in personality like in GT, the best example is Vegeta, but it will be a nostalgic trip from now on so i will leave the comparison and just enjoy and remember how much DB meant to me& hope you have a nice day/night

Despite the fact that I only heard the word “manga” for the first time when I was like 12 years despite me primarily loving comics my entire life, Toriyama’s passing hurts me like hell. Dragon Ball was my first manga and will always be my favourite. I went from only barely knowing anything about Goku to now where I can tell you his freaking height. And in only a few years Goku became one of my absolute favourite characters period. He’s in my top 10 with Luke Skywalker. Thank you Toriyama Sensei, I am forever grateful for what you’ve given us. You left us too young, but I’m sure King Kai will be more than happy to let you stay at his place. RIP.

A healthy Japanese man living in Japan who's at Toriyama's age is more likely than not to live to his 90s. Of course it's possible he was sick and we just didn't know but as far as we knew he had no health issues. This wasn't a one in a million event but it wasn't expected either

Square enix could never make a better game than the 1995 Chrono Trigger. It hasnt been the same since Enix merged with them. Games today offer up flashy realistic graphics but it lacks heart. Lacks excitement. What made the original great was it had the best of the best working on the game and you see the thought and passion bleeding through the game.

Toriyama stands on a pillar with Hironobu Sakaguchi as the two most formative creatives that influenced me in my life. I will never forget finally getting Cartoon Network at the age of 11 and coming home from school and seeing Goku and Captain Ginyu fighting and just being absolutely enthralled. I've never put down Dragonball since and, though I don't watch the show as much as I used to, his work will never be forgotten or stop having an influence on my imagination.

I may have not been exposed to dragon ball as a child. It was the first thing I picked up when I started using the internet back in 2013. Star Wars and then Dragon Ball..I loved it..Going to school and drawing Goku on the board..Listening to the mysic, watching the shows, singing along.. Powering up, spending entire nights during the summer looking at the sky and thinking about dragon ball. Talking about it with friends, waiting every sunday for the Tournament of Power and it's climax, crying at Goku's victory and the salvation of the dragon ball cosmos. An entire decade of fun memories, my comfort, thank you Toriyama. It was your series that led me to the rest of my favourite ones like Bleach. I'll always remember your work and will enjoy your world for the years to come. The more this sinks in, the more I get emotional thinking how much of my fun and happiness came from looking these guys fight, talk, transform.. Wishing you a safe journey to your final resting place..Till we meet again

Just read your community post, and that was a beautiful read, Geekdom. I hope he sees the love we all have for him and the work he's done. Dragon Ball was a major part of my childhood with me going with my grandmother to the Swampmeet to buy the bootleg Spanish DVDs of DBZ and GT, then watching Kai and GT on Nicktoons. Not just that, a lot of my investments in drawing came from drawing the Dragon Ball style going back to when I was around 9-10. Outside of wwe, when it came to that "cool, brawling, let's go," type of vibe, it was Dragon Ball that really made most of my childhood when it came to those type of shows because it kinda got you away from reality you know what I mean? Hell, it even motivates me to stay in the gym longer sometimes And It's crazy how, as you said, that we didn't know him, yet his work alone brought so much joy and gratitude in our own lives. It shows how creativity is the driving force of influence and how powerful one's mind and work bring everyone together. Stuff like that inspires me to continue practicing design and such. Art is an amazing thing we have. But yeah, the only thing we, as well as the people who have worked with him, honor his legacy, as well as showing love for the creative mind he had. Had to write a long message because rarely do I express gratitude like this, but Dragon Ball got me through the good times and bad times like no other. From all the crying, pain, heartbreak, mental health, the pandemic, and being sick over the years, the characters and themes of the show were what helped me through the toughest times, even in boredom lol. Not that I'm crying per say, but this one got me really damn emotional. Thank you, Geekdom, as well as all the Dragon Ball creators, for providing us this content. You guys are amazing, and you do a good job of honoring his work. Toriyama is a legend in my book. Bless his soul for the all hard work he's done to entertain us. RIP 🙏 ❤️

I put this comment in many videos but I feel the need to let it out to as many people as possible, I don’t know how else I can handle this I may have hated on him for coming up with Super, but he still created the legendary show that was my childhood Dragonball was part of my life since i was 4, coming up with Super won't make me forget that, it was the reason both my mind and body are healthier. He was an amazing artist, despite him joking about being lazy all the times. A lot of the plot in the manga happened because he kept trying to find ways to save on linework, just for his art to become more and more detailed every arc. Drawing Dragon Ball in middle school was the start of my decision in becoming an art student in college, and Its also the reason i work out to stay healthy. If it wasn't for him, I would probably never grew an interest for drawing and art as a whole. He, and his work, introduced me to this field; it saved me from a rough place back in middle school... now I've built my whole life around studio arts because of him. Even if i don't make it in the field with how brutal the industry is, i don't regret my choice. I learned so many wonderful things in college, and finally found a direction for the future. This man literally changed my life with his one work. I feel devastated, i slandered him so much for making Super, but I wouldn't be here if my younger self didn't just randomly decided to sketch Goku that one day in middle school. I know know how to make art in multiple mediums, from painting to sculpting. Even if i don't make it in the field i don't regret learning all these wonderful things. Rest in peace king, and thank you for everything. Akira Toriyama, you were the champion. You were number one.
