Also dairy and meat aren’t a big part of their diet. Mostly carbs and veggies. Dairy has so much puss in it that can’t be pasteurised out and it plays a big role. Not to mention the hormones. And then of course there’s the cruelty of eating animals and making them suffer their whole lives for just one meal for us and the fact that it’s being the worst industry for the planet. Sorry for taking such a long time to reply. To be honest since the first person asked I've been doing research so I can provide an actually helpful answer. From what I am seeing so far there is a lack of a unified body or standard to designate sustainably sourced bamboo. The best advice I can give so far is to contact brands whose products use bamboo that you are interested in and ask them about the sustainability of their bamboo sources. Some questions may include asking whether bamboo is sourced from natural forests or farmed, where the bamboo is sourced (I generally look for farms in the US and CANADA but even they have their exploitative practices), and for information on the emissions of the bamboo processing they use for their product. I'm going to come back with a more definitive answer or I will come back as a 3rd party watch dog myself because we need a cruelty free bunny for this.

When it first started, Tatcha marketed itself as being "based on Japanese skincare tradition". It is based in the U.S. and is headquartered in San Francisco. It was purchased by Unilever in 2019 and they try to infer (although they don't actually state) that is a Japanese company through comments on their website such as "We adhere to Japan’s official safety and purity standard, one of the highest in the world." I don't know if their products are available in Japan now, but they were not available outside of the U.S. prior to the sale to Unilever.

I don't understand why The K-beauty industry as a whole is being bashed and dragged for one sunscreen controversy, and also Purito did not have a fake ingredients list and fake percentage of chemical filters, but the claim they made was fake. And no, Korean skincare does not have "skin-Lightening" ingredients in their products, they don't BLEACH the skin. And like Cassandra said, KFDA was not at fault for this, so "That's why I don't use Asian sunscreen/skincare" is a very inappropriate and offending comment to make.

I lived in Korea for a little bit 12 years ago (omg has it been that long?!) and I definitely picked up some amazing beauty habits that have served me well. However some of my favorite kbeauty brands were also considered luxury in Korea, however you can really survive on samples because the sample haul in Korea was always next level! Some of my fav like shulwasoo, ohui and the history of ho (sorry for spelling it wrong!) were just pure magic especially in comparison to what was available in stores normally at that time. Right now I'm still a huge k beauty fan but I also am able to get more products locally which means i don't have to order my entire skin care routine from Korea haha However, there are few products that western companies don't even come close to replicating. The whole bb cream thing is bs - i haven't used foundation in years, only Korean bb cream. The western bb creams are NOT THE SAME. They are colured like foundation in shades of yellow and pink (if you're a pasty gal like me) and they look hideous. Korean bb cream are almost gray when they come out of the tube - because they have so much violet and green pigment to cancel any redness/pink/yellow tones to give skin that glass/translucent look. I don't think i have to talk much about sunscreen- they are lightweight, even pure mineral ones and for someone with a skin condition (pmle) they are a true blessing. Another item that i can't live without (k but also j beauty) is mascara. The best western mascara is just some goop in a tube in comparison to Asian mascaras. I have very straight lashes that point down. Every mascara looks great when i put it on but within minutes of drying my lashes revert back to their shape. Not with K or J mascaras! They are pure magic. I can curl my lashes so much they poke my eyebrows and it stays this way until i choose to remove it. Wow this is a very long comment lol took me down a memory lane - when we can travel again I definitely need to go back to Korea for some Omori Kimchi soup 😋 (if a Korean person is reading this please tell me that's still a thing)

Those are my trusted skincare products which I love. Lol, my fav cleanser is an oldy and one of the most bash(bliss pore patrol)😅. Cetaphil is fine. Cerave is no, it's so basic than Cetaphil. For TO, i've tried their niacinamide, buffet, retinol, lactic acid, rosehip, squalane and NMF. All did a great job. @@demonslayer4951 Propolis, snail mucin and fermented ingredients are not ideal for skin types that have the tendency to experience fungal acne (aka a type of yeast). Your skin might also be specifically sensitized to certain common ingredients, maybe even preservatives that are commonly used in Korean skincare products. It's also possible that you have applied too much cream or combined products with something they do not go too well together with. The Ordinary especially has such formulations that it rarely allows other products to function the way they should. Purito, cosrx, Pyunkang Yul and Beauty of Joseon are of course just a tiny tiny perecentage of Korean skincare brands, but hey, to each their own. Why should you even try out new skincare products if you have already figured out what products work for you? The reason why so many of us moved on to K-beauty was because we couldn't find anything from western products that would actually improve our skin conditions. But if you feel like your skin is doing perfectly with the products you already use, stick to them! :)

I understand the controversy with the whole Purito sunscreen debacle, but It's something the western market has also been guilty of. There's no point in jumping on the "Let's hate all K-beauty brands!" train just because one brand made a (very) poor decision. Also, I love K-beauty! I use it all the time and my oily-acne-prone skin has seen clearer days thanks to brands like dear, Klairs, I'm From, Rovectin, Etude House's Soon Jung line and more.). Yeah, that's right. Btw, it also turn that SPF rating for sunscreen is very tricky, different labs give out various SPF rating result for one same sunscreen 😱. Plus, most sunscreens, regardless of country, have less SPF than they claim, but mostly not their fault. It's whether because the SPF decrease with time or because of environmental stress, or the lab the brand paid to grade their SPF give the SPF rating, and other labs test them and get different result. You can watch Lab Muffin on this for more explanation. Sorry for the rant 😅, just feel like sharing info

The only brands I have found that are affordable, don’t leave a white film on my skin or make it look greasy. I can actually get an SPF 50 for my face for daytime wear. Well, keep in mind that L'oreal bought 3CE which used to be a Korean make-up company just as Estee Lauder bought Dr. Jart which was also formerly Korean. So you do in fact have these European juggernauts literally buying into the market. The reason why K-Beauty is light years ahead is because the Korean government pours a sh*t ton of money into cosmeceutical R&D. Unfortunately, this is why Western companies are losing their edge because they're just not investing as much into their products. In terms of environmental awareness, Korea as a country is again, more advanced than the West because composting is mandatory, and they have pneumatic trash systems. My only complaint against the West when they discuss K-Beauty is the tendency to fetishize or exoticize some of the Korean products or beauty trends. To Koreans, it's just another good (or bad) product.

Thanks for your input on this line, Cassandra, I’ve had them on my wishlist for a good while now. Love the Rice grain shape of the bottles! Fermented ingredients, inside & out are incredibly effective! I adore rice bran in my products, particularly fermented . Currently using the I’m From , Rice 🍚 line, the 2 new products are the Rice serum & Rice cream, plus the OG Rice Toner is my favourite-Such beautiful products! I would also recommend the new Acwell Licorice serum , fragrance free , effective & soothing serum for anyone. I use, almost exclusively K & J & some T-Beauty products(delving into their world more), in my routine. The only thing from the Rice line I would not recommend is the mask. I find it a tad harsh. I wish they would make another iteration of it or reformulate it altogether with Rice powder as the exfoliating component, instead of the Rice bran husks, plus the after-effect is a tad too greasy for anyone with combo/oily skin, & the added fragrance is off-putting as well , smells kind of floral when I expected a more natural fermented rice aroma or a just a rice aroma in general, not flower petals;it just doesn’t complement the range, in my experienced opinion.

I’ve been using Numbuzin brand for my skincare for 6 months now and I’m LOVING it. I honestly feel that Korean beauty products are amazing. I have oily skin & I can go out, to work with no makeup on and feel good about myself. Since wearing masks, my skin hates the masks and I break out on my cheeks, chin and around the lip & nose areas. This is helping me keep my face acne free, brighter, tighter and with less wrinkles. I actually was told I have the good wrinkles, the smile ones. So that made me feel better. Plus yesterday was my 48th birthday and I keep getting told I look like I’m in my late 30’s to early 40’s… I’ll take that! 😂

I like to use face masks that I ship from South Korea. All I know is that these things are awesome as I had a scar over one of my eyes from an injury that I sustained during an head injury. And six months after the injury the scar disappeared. Even my doctor cannot see it anymore. The face masks helped me rid myself of the nasty scar I was told I would have forever, in six months. I also don't have a lot of wrinkles and people still mistake me for someone in their 20's. I am about to turn 40.

A few things to note about Korean skincare that I've found frustrating is that their ingredient labeling does not require you list extracts separate from water. For example, they can say a product has 49% centella asiatica extract (cough purito) but most of that 49% is actually water with an undisclosed amount of actual centella which is a bit misleading marketing rather than being genuinely more advanced or superior to other brands who would label the same exact thing as water,..... centella asiatica extract. The other thing is that Kbeauty frequently adds fragrance and irritating essential oils to products that are touted to be for barrier repair, compromised skin, and sensitive skin. For the most part, Western and Japanese brands won't do this (some products in their line might, but most of them won't if they say they're designed for compromised skin). A good thing is that many Korean brands lately (at least ones marketed overseas like Purito and Etude House, cannot speak for what Koreans actually use and demand) have been listening and adjusting their formulas without fragrance and EOs!

My fave (my only) k-beauty product is the smooth egg peeling gel from Holika- yes, I only bought it initially because it came in gudetama themed packaging, but once I used it I loved it and have re-bought it a few times. I know not all of the stuff that accumulates and flakes off is dead skin, but it feels like it could be, and that gives me that exfoliating satisfaction that we North Americans crave for some reason, without resorting to crazy DIYs that could actually do myself some damage.

K beauty definitely has its ups and downs, but regardless the difference between Korean and American products are vastly different. K-beauty I saw results almost immediately which most brands had marketed and promised. Most American/European based beauty brands made many claims but I never saw results. This is why I am now a forever K-beauty fan and will always buy their products.

Moisture is EVERYTHING~ Korean & Japanese beauty/skincare is top tier! As an Asian, their products cater to our skins’ needs in terms of genetics etc. as I find that American products, specifically, are too harsh and tends to dry out my skin. Kbeauty/Jbeauty products are just so well formulated, to where just even using a cleansing foam & a toner/essence does the work that a 10 step regime would.

@@catbirdler Think about how many people here either missed that because of how almost non chalontely she threw that in, like she wanted us to miss it. Also the contradictions people have mentioned, like the crap ton of fragrance in some of these products like Lavender. While she did a good video on talking about the misconceptions of some fragrances before, something like lavender is a KNOWN irritant. People are complaining about this video in particular because it genuinely seems a little off and it doesn't seem as balanced. Like I watched her Kenzzi video, I knew it was sponsored right away and I didn't necessarily mind it. This one especially judging by the title was supposed to be about the korean industry as a whole and I was hoping for an overview as well. Not just focused on Haru Haru. Like if she put a disclaimer in the title like other people have, I would have known not to click on this.

@@user-rc4hk1pj4m Thank you very much for these awesome suggestions! I really appreciate it and I just added the iUNIK Centella Calming Recovery Gel Hydrating Cream to my amazon cart. I was diagnosed by my derm with rosacea back in 2016, but I honestly feel like I've been dealing with this since I was 11 (I'm 25 now). I remember getting called "lobster face" in 6th grade, it was that bad! My derm prescribed Mirvaso to help with the redness, but that didn't work at all for me, and even made me look purple! I've been very lucky to be able to work from home since last March and its giving me the opportunity to not feel like I need to wear foundation everyday. With that, I gotten much more interested in trying to develop a skin care regime that works to bring down the redness and help balance my oily to combination skin.
