I had the foley without the epidural… SO PAINFUL! but i begged for the epidural right after the bulb was inserted and i got it lol so immediate relief. It nice going into it not expecting it to be that painful though. Really helped me stay calm.

It's cruel and misogynistic how doctors don't warn female patients about the pain of gynecological procedures. By doing this, they're actually committing a CRIME called "lack of informed consent".

Foley bulbs= the devils butthole 🤣 I almost passed the heck out after they put one in

Failure to provide proper pain relief qualifies as negligence and medical malpractice. If your doctor did not warn you about the pain of the procedure, you can also sue for lack of informed consent.

I wad induced with double balloon, and had painful contractions for 12hours I was begging them to give me epidural, These balloons helped me reach 4cm but I ended up with C-section after 27hrs of labor🥺. I hope everyone will give birth easily and won't experience this.

I had to have this when I was induced with my first daughter and it did absolutely nothing for me in 24 hours but cause me excruciating pain and her inability to breathe during my contractions. She now has learning/developmental delays from it 😔

When I got induced they put that foley bulb in me and i started having strong contractions and needed to poop a lot and the the whole time I had it in me and into it came out I didn’t ask for the epidural. I miss that moment :(

Anecdotally, I've yet to hear a birth story first hand that had good results with the folley ball or balloon for stimulating labor. I'm guessing it's chosen is to avoid negative side effects of the medication forms of induction.

Yes that can be a reason! I had it done and it worked and helped put me into labor.

I have friend whose labor I attended and they used the single Foley bulb. There was an issue with her bp being very high. The medication that she was taking for her bp was in direct contradiction with the medication for induction essentially relaxing the muscles instead of causing contractions. Once she got to 5 cm the bulb fell out.

Worse than labour pain. I started having immense pain for 12 hour straight and i wasnt even able to digest water. Whatever was going inside my body waa coming out through vomitting. Still rememver the night i went through with folleys bulb.

Yes I just got it and I’ve been having INTENSE cramping that tricks me for contractions. But theirs no tightening of my stomach or what seems to be real contractions. After I got it I’ve been going number 2 soo much. I didn’t know this is what it’s like

When I had one put in for induction it was so painful and awful. It’s the thing I remember the most. Also it broke my water so it didn’t even end up staying in. Is this common? For it to break your water? I’m pregnant again and may be induced again but I think I will refuse this option.

It’s hard to say if it broke your water or if your water just broke on it’s own. That’s not what it is intended for, but sometimes slight pressure on someone’s membranes could potentially help it break, if it was the right timing.

Had this done to me and the only minor pain I felt was when it was pulled out by the nurse because it was almost out.

I would like to have a Vbac and my last baby was 12 years ago 😮 so I would essentially be a prime again I would imagine. Is this something that could work for me as I have never gone into labor on my own?

Potentially, but your doctor is the one who can guide you best as they will take all your medical information and background.

You can refuse anything. Do research, be assertive and stand your ground. Personally, if I was having a baby today, I would advertise around Ft.Bragg looking for a Special Forces medic to be my doula. Especially, for one with combat experience. Active or retired. Amazing medical knowledge of "how to, not research it" and if they have done surgery to a gunshot wound under a tree with incoming around them, and yes, those men are out there, they don't panic. Get one to be the advocate for your birth plan, within reason, and I am betting that they will put a pushy doctor right back in their place. Very good with teaching hospitals to protect your space from students and residents just wanting experience and you disagree. Probably not cheap. These guys make bank as civilian operators after service, but hands down number one on my potential doula list.
