3:31 "It's not actually good at lighting a cigar or cigarette" - but you did not try a cigarette. I just bought one - It works great for a cigarette. If you want one for a cigar then buy the cigar plasma lighter. They even make them for pipes.

I actually have one of these, they dont shock, only burn. I tested this, stupidly enough, by soaking a knife and touching it while shooting the arc through it.

I've not had any trouble lighting cigs with my plasma lighter. Seems like it's pretty basic and easy. I use mine a lot and find it as a good replacement for gas lighters.

same here. ive even had a collection of them and even sold many to people. is this dude on crack ? dunno. I still use my "plasma" lighter daily.. Even in huge winds i can still light my cigs in under 3-4 seconds

I actually see a practical use for that lighter. A "plasma" lighter could be really useful camping or in a survival pack as it can light in harsh conditions. Still looks fun to play around with though!

I bought one online for a few bucks from one of those Chinese importers. I don't smoke, but I need reliable ignition for camping stoves, micro torches, survival tool, etc. Yeah, probably gets too close to the gas for comfort lighting stoves, but I had a hot meal during our last power outage. Better for the purpose is the 3" gooseneck lighter that I got at the same time.

What I really want to know, and can't find anywhere, is how do they make a spark criss-cross? I'm a smart guy, with a background in high tech, but I simply cannot fathom how to make that happen. Making 2 arcs with 4 electrodes is easy, but they either jump directly across in two parallel arcs, L-R, or at 90°, T+B. Can I buy a clue?

you can solder with these.......also you can get a double plasma arc lighter which lights at the top making it possible to light anything easily, it looks basically like the battery part of a small beginner vape pen with the button you press 5x to turn on 5x to turn off

It can light anything just as well, the one I use is a cross one but it's more open so there's room to light things like cigars and cigarettes, often the electricity arcs to the nearest combustible point so it's deceptively good at lighting larger things on fire. But it WILL burn them for sure.

The "conductive" gas is air. These lighters are essentially a cold cathode tube transformer sand associated circuitry, safety so forth. Not rocket science really but really cool just the same.

i am getting one as they dont need fuel so i can cut out buying gas and i dont have to strees my thumb. but i dont expect much from it other than that, but i would say thats a big plus for me as i dont smoke outside much.

I ended up getting a gold, dragon engraved one that points the arc OUT, so that you can put it against anything for properly lighting. It lights a candle in 1-3 seconds

It's good at lighting cigarettes that fit in that space. They make various sizes, for different uses. I saw one that was long, and clearly meant to ignite a candle.
