I spent 12 years on the US Navy and went on 5 Westpac cruises. I miss being underway. The first time I got on a ship was the USS Constellation, in San Diego. When I stepped off the ship, I was in Subic Bay Philippines. I remember thinking how crazy that was and how I had followed in the footsteps of all Sailors throughout history. And there's something romantic about seeing land, and a particular characteristic, slowly come into view as we sail towards port. Good times. Here's to you, shipmates!

Milky Way story reminded me of when i was in Jr High, went camping. I'd never realized the clear night sky eas SUPPOSED to be lit up! I'm currently living somewhere between rural and suburbs, without street lights, and there's still a lot of light pollution.

Former Royal Navy and RFA, just under 40 years in the job. I really miss the stars at night, the sound your ship makes moving through the water, the wildlife, the foreign visits. I miss the guys and girls I worked with, I miss my job. I hate being retired.

Was a little seasick on a cruise, discovered that the best place to forget the nausea and vertigo was when I was soaking in the bathtub. Also used reverse psychology, telling myself that the OTC seasick meds were making me feel Ill so I stopped taking them and soon enough was able to leave the cabin. Was it actually the medication? No idea but I was able to get through what the crew said was the worst crossing of Bass Strait they had experienced, I can get motion sick on a ten minute drive.
