Learn more about our upcoming course on the subtypes: Master the 27 Enneagram Subtypes here: purchase.cpenneagram.com/subt...
The nine Enneagram types tell us a lot, but the Enneagram subtypes descriptions offer an even more nuanced view of the personality types, shedding light on our most unconscious level of functioning so we can become more self-aware.The Enneagram describes three centers of human intelligence-the head, heart, and body. Each triad then divides into three to create nine interconnected personality types. These types also each have their own triad-the third level of three-the 27 subtypes. Subtypes are based on whether a person has a predominant instinctual drive toward Self-Preservation, Social interaction in groups, or One-to-one bonding. In this one-hour event, Bea and Uranio will discuss the Enneagram subtypes-everything you wanted to know (but didn't know to ask) ahead of their 2023 series, Master the 27 Enneagram Subtypes for Maximum Growth (find at cpenneagram.com/calendar).

Claudio Naranjo stated that we go to both arrows equally. That he was misquoted regarding integration and integration. Beatrice seems to be in the middle of both views. Where she talks about going to the integration arrow first, and the other arrow (which she does not call disintegration, but since she is saying go there second she is implying it is not as valuable going to the other arrow) next.

Great overview of the 27 subtypes and the exact difference between passion and instinct - thank you very much for sharing your insights! I translated the chapters on type 1 and type 9 from their latest book into German for the best understanding (and strictly for private use only), and my wife and I keep them ready for daily use. Wouldn't it be great to have German versions of the fantastic guidebooks Bea and Uranio have written? If you want to become free individual subtype work seems to be paramount and with "The Enneagram Guide to Waking Up" there is an excellent starting point.

A long time ago, I watched “tapes” about the Enneagram Types and wings. It was suggested that a midlife crisis was a flip from one wing to another.

Thanks Bea and Uranio. I always enjoy to look and listen to your podcasts. I have an interesting question ... I have noticed that after my menopauze I became an another instinctual type. In my youth I was a sexual 4, and now I have almost 6 years self-preservation 4. My question is Is it possible to change your dominant subtype, and Is it possible to change without inner work, just under influence of hormones and life experience?

I think Tritype is a good way of identifying our secondary responses. According to Faurvre, when our first line of defense fails (Instincts, wings, arrows) we then move to the second line of defense which is tritype. This happened to me as a 359. Where for years I tried to land that 100 000 dollar a year job to be successful as I did not considered living with less to focus on knowledge would be good for my family. And Enneagram 3 is about helping the family. With TriType understanding I returned and have embraced my 5ishness. Even if it means living with less means as a minimalist. And why Groundhog Day is my favorite movie which describes this process.

I really think Biden is a Social 7...which can be confused with 2s. Also, I really think Trump is a fearful counterphobic 6 - not a justice-seeking 8.

With all due respect, to your amazing work, I think that is where you probably get it way wrong. At around minute 33 you talk about the way to work, by looking at the subtypes and then the overall instincts. However, at the beginning, you both mentioned how unconscious you guys were to the combinations of instincts and passion, or subtypes, because it is so intrinsic and automatic. Even for someone with 14 years of deep Enneagram study and higher education studies in Psychology, the recognition of the subtype was not immediate. There are blind spots there. So how can this be natural to someone who is just starting to learn about the 9 types? i agree that both must be seen from the beginning, but you guys are missing a very important peace to this. Trauma is what blocks us from seeing this right off the bet, so unless we are working deeply in our issues from childhood in a safe and correct way such as bringing compassionate and spiritual contexts to get an initiation on these truths, we are meant to continue blind or to go into a very confusing or painful awakening as I did . And even if Beatrice talks a lot about this inner work that is not worked much at all in her books. In my humble opinion without going to the point 4 and 7, embracing our shadow as a positive force, we will not only create more ego resistance but it can become dangerous to the person. I got ill because of doing this process without dealing with the traumas in the correct way. If i had indeed recognized I was a 4 sexual from the start I would have been in position to selfharm so my ego blocked that knowledge from me. Nonetheless, I did that in unconscious ways, accelerating self-destructive tendencies and making myself ill. That goes to say that knowledge in itself is not enough and it is how we apply it where we can see benefit. So perhaps working on a system that can incorporate real integration tools not just shadow work, you know.

According to Katherine Fauvre it is the other way around and there are 2 countertypes. And when she told Naranjo she discovered that he agreed with her. Though she says there is a hierarchy. Which Beatrice already teaches anyway. Katherine will add the hierarchy in her new book. I suspect it will be the same as Beatrice's as 1) The stereotypical type. 2) The second type 3) The countertype. Basically the debate would be with number 2 should be called. Should it be called a second countertype? I say no. That Beatrice's view is more correct. But we shall see....
