When I first read about the Balangiga bells i remember feeling so mad that such happened, especially the waterboarding torture. After i found your channel i wondered if you made a video about it and so here I am. I'm so happy that the bells are back and I hope you never stop making these videos!

Story goes that my great, great aunt was the one who banged one of the bells. Hence, my obsession with my bloodline and that particular Philippine history became increasingly pronounced.

Salamat bro...I know these are significant but if you go to the mall in Washington the Philippine monument is the only country standing side by side with the other 50 States of the US. This is at the center of the mall called Pacific memorial close to the Libcoln memorial. Chicago museum the whole basement floor features the Philippine reefs and our way of life and fishing there, that gold statue is also displayed in Chicago museum of arts. After all the US did not really forgot their brown brothers although they did stole many of our treasures but I would also check the gold palace and crown of Spain I'm sure they have more there.

how do we Filipinize foreign(specifically English) names? what are the rules? (vowel/consonant deletion/addition/substitution/sound shortening/sound lengthening) WIll be very useful for Deaf/Hard of Hearing/Tone Deaf who are interested in learning such.

Wrong. It was a combination of five adjacent town. Namely, quinapondan,giporlos,Balangiga,lawaan and marabot.

Bells were used for military purpose and so are a valid war trophy to take to prevent being used for this purpose again.

+klarch+ From what I've read, most of the diplomats and military officers in the USA want to give up the Bells of Balangiga but it is not theirs to give. The Bells were taken by the American soldiers who survived the massacre and are kept as a private collection by the descendants of the soldiers who were killed in the original attack. Even though the initial surprise attack on the US garrison is a legimate ruse de guerre by combatants under the laws of war, the victims and their families are holding on to their grudges and won't allow their war trophies to be returned to the present-day inhabitants of the town of Balangiga. This personal decision by the soldiers' descendants despite requests by the US government is what perpetuates the anguish and rancor between the Balangiga townfolk and the citizens of the Philippines against the unjustified and illegal retaliation by the American soldiers against the entire province of Samar.

Kirby, who and where are these bells made or where they came from? We know that they came from Balangiga but originally is that the place where they were made? Because during the Spanish period Filipinos built churches under Spanish supervision and they work like slaves. Filipinos during that time don't know much about metals let alone bell manufacturing, right?

Mauli Ako, So much has been written about the story in Balangiga but nothing has been said where exactly these bells were made. What is the company that manufactured it, as we all know Filipinos during that time paid their taxes to the Spanish and the currency pesos were made in Spain. Because Filipinos back then has no prior knowledge, skills and technology to make their own products let alone making bells.

I'm not entirely sure what you mean by Filipinos not having prior "knowledge, skills and technology to make their own products" since pre-colonial Filipinos have been making weapons and ships long before the advent of the Spanish era. Perhaps you mean these in the context of bell-making, and it's true that bells might not have been a product in pre-colonial times, but engineering knowledge, skill and material were all pretty much already present. I would say *especially* the materials, since the Philippine islands are so rich in resources including a variety of metal. I really recommend reading Barangay by William Henry Scott to know what kind of technology pre-colonial Filipinos were capable of. You'll be pleasantly surprised.

Oh yes, it's entirely possible they got bells and other products from Spanish trade. I was just replying to your claim that Filipinos back then didn't have knowledge, skills and resources for metal-work. Since it's also true that Filipinos at that time and even before were already skilled in things like goldsmithing. Sorry if I misunderstood you.
