dizzxy Yes, it's really sad to kill and eat living beings when we don't need to. We can happily live on a plant-based diet. I've been vegan for years now. Very healthy. Might consider ornamental fish for aquaponics, but basically I just want the plants for food.

@@sarahvegangarden4822 cool story bruz, me personally I like eating more meat then plants, sure veggies and fruit are good but you need a balanced diet, and Vegans need a shit ton of Vitamins to keep up
@sarahvegangarden4822
@sarahvegangarden4822 3 жыл бұрын
@@dantemadden1533 Hi there! What vitamins do you get from dead animals? Vitamins A, B, C, D, E, K can all be obtained from plants. D3 is the one most people (of whatever diet) lack, and it's fed deliberately to farmed animals so meat-eaters get it from the meat. Might as well eat it directly without passing it through another digestive system first! Many athletes are vegan, including Ironman and other endurance athletes. We're all good and healthy, no worries on that score. 😊💚
@malikjackson9337
@malikjackson9337 3 жыл бұрын
@@sarahvegangarden4822 D3 is also found in fatty fish like Wild Salmon, Sardines and Halibut. You're typically not going to get that from muscle meat but rather fish and eggs. Plants also lack preformed Vitamin A retinol, Vitamin K2 MK4, omega-3s DHA and EPA and heme iron which is much better absorbed than non heme iron. (Plants also have less favorable amino acid profiles usually lacking BCAAs, methionine, glycine and taurine in meaningful amounts) The minerals and protein in plants are also lower quality due to poor absorption via anti nutrient content.

Also something interesting to note. Cold water dosent kill fish. So when big fish farms move there fish from the pond to a trucks they have a tank that’s set to a colder temperature so fish can survive if it’s hotter it can kill the fish. That’s why when you buy pet goldfish they tell you to set the bag in the aquarium so the water in the bag will gently level out to the temp in the aquarium that’s extremely important fish are more sensitive than you may believe

I remember putting flathead catfish in one of my aquaponic systems... it was a horrible idea because they are difficult to handle... 6 of them died and i still have no idea why... the ratio of fish to bio filtration was perfect and there was no solid waste buildup, food was protein rich.... it may have been an infection or disease... i replaced them with goldfish after some big adjustments

Blue gills are native to my area so I was thinking of capturing them then fating them up while leaving a sandy bed to see if my best fish would breed. I have a worm farm that became a black solider fly farm though I still have a decent amount of red wigglers. My question is how much do they need to eat and how big does the tank need to be to allow them to grow to eating size? I'm hoping to create an inexpensive system.

All you got to do is make sure there’s water on the soil not everyday depending on what climate your in but when there new it’s important to satisfy there needs. Considering you're ozian why not metion silver perch or jungle perch both excellent for aquaponics from my experiences. Silver perch are hard to find in the wild these days due to carp so the per kg price is good when harvest comes along, better than barra most times. I have 200 in my inground pool with hydroponics set up every winter here in qld when not in use which i get about 500 kg of fillets out of over a 2 week harvest. $24 per kg, not bad for doing bugger all, and lots of veggies too. Cost to feed, well covered by sale of fillets i kid you not.

Ive seen aquaponic rigs (videos) with mussels and oysters in the tank. But that's the final purifying tank before the water cycles back into the fish's tank. OR a self-contained fish/clam tank where the fish waste is filtered out by mussels and oysters in there with them. But that wouldn't let the waste cycle to the plants...

0:56 "cichlid fall under the tilapia species...." First off, tilapia is a genus & there a plenty of species that fall into that genus. Secondly, cichlid is a family, of which, tilapia is one of many genus that fall into that family.
