In this video, our expert explains the types of automatic sprinkler systems. The sprinkler system is classified into 5 basic types, namely:
• Wet Pipe
• Dry Pipe
• Deluge
• Preaction
o Non-Interlock System
o Single Interlock System
o Double Interlock System
• Antifreeze
Initially, the wet pipe system is explained. Here, the pipes are filled with water with a fusible link on a sprinkler. When a fire starts, a series of actions take place, and once the temperature reaches the threshold level, it fuses, and water will start coming out from the sprinkler. It’s the most economical sprinkler system.
In the dry pipe system, the pipes are filled with air or nitrogen. When the sprinkler fuses, the air or nitrogen releases from the system followed by which the dry pipe valve opens letting the water into the system.
The third kind of sprinkler is the deluge system and this sprinkler consists of a smoke detector. When the smoke detector goes into alarm, it sends a signal to the control panel. A series of actions follow which ultimately open the deluge valve. Once the valve is open, the water starts to flow out of every sprinkler. This system is mostly employed in high hazard regions.
The next sprinkler system is preaction and is classified into 3 types. The single interlock and double interlock systems are the most used systems and are meant to reduce accidental releases of hydrocarbons. The non-interlock is used in dry areas where a constant temperature can’t be maintained.
The antifreeze system is somewhat archaic, and basically consists of an antifreeze solution that is placed in water. This prevents freezing and usually used in freezing conditions below 40.
Further to this, the author explains the various components of the sprinkler systems. Watch the full video to know more.
