People start collecting coins for many reasons. Sometimes it's the interesting designs or the history they represent. But there are many people who see it as an investment opportunity.
Despite lots of emails asking how much a particular coin or coin collection is worth, the most common question in recent times is about a specific coin...
"How much is my HH two dollar coin worth?". Sometimes I get this question several times a week and there's usually a photo of a very heavily circulated coin to accompany the email.
For people who are new to coin collecting this is a fair question. Unfortunately, there's so much confusion out there about these coins, so I wanted to give you some information that would allow you to make an informed decision about whether to waste your time trying to sell an HH coin that's in this shoddy condition, or even hold onto it.
Now this is not to say that you don't want a 1988 or 1989 two dollar coin in your collection - these coins are an important part of the two dollar coin story. But this video is to give you an idea of why collectors generally don't see these coins as being worth more than face value, and to clear up where some of this confusion has come from.
