there was this family friend who was a metalhead named Jason and he'd babysit me and my sister in the mid 80s and every time he did it, he'd bring over a boom box and all his maiden, slayer, metallica, megadeth, sabbath, priest, cannibal corpse, etc tapes and just crank them. i thought he was the coolest dude ever and when i got older i got every one of the albums he'd played for us. the exact time i can say i became a metalhead is the day Pantera's Vulgar Display Of Power album came out and i bought the tape. loved Mouth For War but when A New Level came on..... everything i knew about music changed. the absolute hardest song i'd ever heard. i used to get pissed off that my walkman's volume didn't go loud enough cause that song is never too loud. every time i crank it now; i remember..... it's my favourite metal song of all time.

Going for a straight metal band that got me more into metal. Megadeth. My brother had the Countdown to Extinction album on Cassette and we listened the SHIT out of that album.

First metal record I bought myself. I had a small job for a crappy advertisement and had it in my cheap knockoff discman (ultra-shock protected yeah\m/ ). But I only had that disc with me and highly underestimated the time it would need to get the crap to every house. So I listened to the record for hours and hours non stop. Next day to finish up...do I got all I need?...Left the house and I listened to the same record for another full day. I sang with the lyrics while my english wasn't that good at the time, so it took me years until i figured out that I was dead wrong on all sorts of lyrics. Still my favourite. I grew up on the Beatles and Queen, and after a weird face where I wasn't interested in music for a few years, I listened to The Offspring. From that point on I was more interested in something faster. I guess in most cases, the seed is planted from a lot of other bands that move you in that direction.

I grew up on Audioslave, Pantera, Motley Crue and Metallica, got my first album, Issues - Korn when I was 10 and then got Slipknot's Iowa when I was around 13 and that album changed my life.

Disturbed and God Smack introduced me to the start of Metal and once I got into Trivium it opened up all the other parts of metal such as death metal, thrash, black, melodeath, etc

Rammstein, Black Sabbath, Metallica and Pantera got me into metal. Slipknot and many others helped keep me into metal when it seemed hopeless for metal.

Pantera. Between Beavis & butthead shoeing “Mouth of Warcraft” & RVD using “walk” I said “man, I should check this out”. Mom wouldn’t let me have the CD cuz of “fucking hostile” so I bought it on cassette and snuck it in my jacket the next day. Changed my life.

Obvious from my name. KISS was my gateway drug. I thought "Parasite" was the most metal thing ever, but then I found out that some band named Pantera also likes KISS so I checked them out and then I found out there were these "black metal" bands that make Gene's bloodspitting look like "Barney & Friends".

It's weird, but christian metal bands like Deliverance, Tourniquet, Mortification, Vengeance Rising and Circle of Dust/Brainchild are what REALLY got me into metal as a kid, thanks to my mom listening to it as well.

first i used to rock bands like gnr and it just made me into it coz their songs are so catchy and their interviews were so badass then i started listening to metallica then it just made me into it coz i like the riffs and kirk hammet inspired me to play guitar then yeah i started listening to other metal bands and yeah. but my favourite metal band of all time is pantera coz they were just badass and heavy

I listened to Drowning Pool, Disturbed, Slipknot, and Linkin Park when I was like 8/9/10 years old and those guys were really the foundation for how I got more into metal \m/

When I was about 4 my dad used to put on vynils and the first thing I've ever heard in my life was Back In Black by AC/DC. As soon as Hells Bells kicked in I was blown away, I enjoyed it. Then it led to Iron Maiden, which led to Metallica in a huge way (which is the thing that influences my guitar playing the most still today that I'm 20). Then I came back to Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, and many more...and then I discovered Ghost.

Mine were classic rock bands like black sabbath, deep purple, cream. The first extreme metal band was cannibal corpse.

Tool hasn't been mentioned? That's the band the opened my ears and showed me how to listen to songs rather than hear them. After that I liked bands from Megadeth to Meshuggah.

I know it’s nothing special and say what you will, but Metallica’s enter sandman is the first metal song I listened to all the way thru. So cool. Really new for me back then. Welcome to the jungle would be a close second. Guns ‘N’ Roses and Metallica got me into metal

When i was a kid in the early 80s there were 5 bands i considered to be real Metal bands . Motorhead , Ozzy ( with or without Sabbath ) Iron Maiden , Judas Priest and Dio ( with or without Sabbath ) all the other bands were trying to sound like one of those 5 bands

Heard superjoint on tonyhawks underground when i was 10, Scared the piss out of me, i hated it. A few months later i heard 10's from pantera and fell in love. Its so ironic cause its the same singer. I love both bands now though and anything else phil has done

For me it was Bush. I know they are not metal, but Machine Head was the first song I ever listened to that had a guitar riff that really dug into my skin and made me want to listen to stuff that was heavier. So they arent metal but they pointed me in the direction of metal. Which naturally led to Metallica. So Bush and Metallica was the gateway.

Between The Buried And Me are the greatest of all time in my opinion. Its kinda biased because I grew up with them. Ill never forget when I heard Colors for the first time.
