In this One Piece Buggy the Clown character analysis I discuss the role of Buggy in the one piece manga and the one piece anime. Buggy is one of the first villains in one piece and is defeated in his fight vs Luffy in orange town. Even though Buggy started off as a funny and comic character, over time he got more and more personality. He was part of the Roger pirates and is acquainted with the likes of red hair shanks, Rayleigh, Crocus or whitebeard. In any fight Bugy has the advantage of owning a devil fruit power. So Buggy does not only have funny moments but even managed to work his way up into the ranks of the warlords. Before becoming a shijibukai, Buggy was imprisoned in Impel Down.

I compare Buggy's luck to Usopp's in that the lies they tell usually come true, but Buggy is slick and more experienced. Usopp talks shit and gets into trouble while Buggy talks shit to finesse his way out

@@Seloliva1015 That wasn't the proper translation. Buggy just had an actual fever. For some reasons in the early unofficial translations of the chapter the translators included that in. In the official translation it's not mentioned. It was just the product of the fan translators trying to be funny.

Without getting too political, Buggy is the product of their world that got jaded by it. But he still has a good heart and that's what draws me to him in impel down arc. It's funny to see his internal conflict between being selfish and doing good, then gets misinterpreted by the prisoners.

Buggy is a tsundere, he doesn't like being nice, but he does it anyway. Even when he abandons Luffy in Impel down he and Mr 3 end up feeling guilt when confronted with Luffys naive and freindly innocence.

Truth is the Straw Hats are Buggy's underlings and it's all Buggy's masterplan to lure Im-sama out of the shadows so Buggy can defeat it in a 1 on 1. The three scars/holes he made on the Straw hat was a secret message that meant the plan was delayed by 3 years. So because it was delayed they had extra time so they could train for 2 years to make sure they get strong enough for it to succed. Yes he got a clarevoyant user in his crew that is still to be confirmed but has been hinted at.

I love such long shot speculations. Also I suspect that Buggys dream to get treasure somehow has to do with something that is motivated on an entirely altruistic level. Because Buggy never struck me as a materialist, but rather a really warm and human person deep down inside.

Theres a few characters in One piece who have paralels to Luffy. Crocodile/Doffy/Moria all kind of do, just they fell off the path. Blackbeard seems to be the guy who is the opposite of Luffy though, going for the same goal via different means.

I actually find your analysis incomplete, Buggy remained small time pirate because Rogers death stopped his time but when he encountered Luffy his time started again and he is slowly building up to the Legend he was meant to be which also shows us how much Buggy loved his captain.

I always curious about buggy especially the last chapter. Buggy was there on the final voyage and i think he down played all of his ability like blackbeard in the beginning when you think about it he disnt want to be hunted by the World government so instead of being open like shanks he chose to hide him self

I think buggy is the jester. Clowns and jesters have always been used to mirror society and the world in humerous ways. To critique and show flaws in a way that wasn't aggressive. Court jesters were the only ones who could critique a king or be the bearer of bad news without beeing punished. It's no wonder that the Joker, the jack of all trades is always depicted wearing a jester attire. Buggy fulfills a similar task in one piece. He is the one that showed us how the world of one piece works especially in the beginning. New feature of the world encountered? Buggy now has a hand in it. And most importantly: he is the one who can't be cut down. Litterally and figuratively. He somehow can't be killed.

Along with great character design and development, Buggy is voiced by an amazing voice actor who does an awesome job and has great range, from deep quiet and serious to high-pitched squeals. His "MUGIWARAAAA" screams always make me laugh :D

I kind of feel like the core crew is set. With Jimbe of course, but after that, I can’t really see Oda add any new crew members. But who knows? I only say this because the story feels like it’s really ramping up towards the final stages of the series despite how much more manga we have in store. But yeah, Buggy is awesome!

When i first read one piece many years ago, it was Buggy who drew me into it. even now with all that's happening i still find my thought drifting to the next Buggy cameo. Fantastic video Ohara. ^^

i think buggy, like the rest of the roger pirates, knows what the one piece is. i think the roger pirates didn't do anything about it and are still not doing anything about it (or sharing what the one piece is with the world) because it wasn't and still isn't the time to do so. until it IS time for that (so when the strawhats find it), the leftover roger pirates might be continuing to try keeping the balance of the world. buggy might have a part in that as well. but oh well this is all speculation and it's very unlikely. this video was great! i really like the new audio editing style you've been using for the last couple of videos, can't wait for what's next!!

He's the most charismatic, loveable goofball in the story. Aside from Luffy that is. And aside from that, he is ridiculously weak while at the same time being impervious to some of the most powerful fighters in our story! Oda is showcasting his genius by turning one of the most obnoxious, annoying, comical villains in the story into a key figure that we just can't get enough of. One that we want to see more of, even when we ourselves forget how much we missed his random bullshit. He is a true pirate at heart. The crew of the Oro Jackson all know what and where the one piece is. If he were after the simple material value of the one piece he would have taken his opportunity long ago, partnering with the most powerful ally that would suit his needs. But instead he works side by side with the young pirate that reminds him most of the man he supposedly despises. Oda is a master of the craft when it comes to story telling and i for one refuse to even attempt to spoil the his telling of this world he is attempting to gift upon us. Over 20 years. I've literally grown up with Luffy. I've grown with and because of our story. I have nothing against you or anyone trying to theorize, decript, rob or whatever you may choose to call your risible attempts at unravelling a story that really has a life all of its own, because at the end of the day, that's all the man wants for us. To imagine, decide, question and think for ourselves what this world can truly be. Not what any sef of rules or government wants. Chase your freedom my nakama.

i kinda assumed that's what he did the first time he was introduced. he was choking his own man, but we couldn't see his hand choking him. I have a few things to say (all good?) Thanks for the honest look at Buggy and not creating a rehash of the Buggy is the best meme that is so pervasive. I mean, that was really funny at the beginning, but it has grown to an obnoxious level of late, so thanks again for that. But also, can we appreciate that Buggy probably knows what the One Piece is, but is also one of the first villains, and didn't spoil anything about One Piece for us?

Rather just Buggy just having a good idea of what the One Piece is, it's far more likely that he's just seen what the One Piece is. Buggy was on board Roger's ship alongside Shanks and Oden during Roger's last journey to Raftel. This means that he was there when they found the One Piece.

As always, this was so much fun!!! I really love and enjoy all of your videos, even if I don't really comment, they reassure some of the conceptions I have of the characters and also give me new points of views of them!!! I've always enjoyed Buggy's character, it's actually amazing how far he can go with his scheming and his dumb good luck, and, as you said, he has grown as much as Luffy or the story itself!! I'm just waiting for the next tidbits of Captain Buggy~ Also, if you like the idea, maybe the next episode could be of Merry and Sunny?? They're the only 'official' Strawhats that need a video!! If not, maybe consider Vivi, Coby or Smoker??? I would love to hear your thoughts about any One Piece characters, but those four had been really important for the story or the Strawhats since the very beginning and I just wanna know what you think about them. Ever since Captain John's treasure and Buggy being a former Roger pirate was introduced, I was convinced the One Piece was definitely not treasure or anything pertaining to wealth, seems like a "duh" now but then it seemed mind blowing imo.
