Omg wow! Bo Kaab has one of the oldest buildings in Cape Town. That’s an interesting fact. The buildings are pretty! Definitely going there whenever I’m in SA. And oh, nice sweatshirt. Pretty colours, love it! $100 well spent! Food, drinks, hiking, the beach, self-care, exploring etc. definitely well-spent!

That guy didnt wanna tell you, BOKAAP was where the coloured slaves used to stay, they also had their slave trading there, so the colonizers decided to let them stay there while working in Cape Town for them, there is a museum that shows this by the company gardens. The colourfulness is simply because of the people who live there. If you had moved up the road, you would noticed a township too. It's only coloreds who live there because the apartheid government put the coloured people (who are basically yellow bone africans who are called khoi-san but know afrikaans as a first language) because they were apparently more important than black people, so the lighter you were, the closer you were to the colonizers.

@@lemiphil2388 coloured is a word white people gave to the khoisan because well, no colonizer wants to learn a local's language, which eventually became their identity. Also, they had people from malay who came here as slaves, that is why cape town has the biggest muslim population in South Africa.
@lemiphil2388

@@mzimhlemosiwe5047 wow this is really fascinating to learn. So the townships were entirely occupied by other native tribes apart from the Khoisan. And the Malay and Khoisan lived in the coloued region as a buffer to the whites?.

@MzimhleMosiwe @TayoAina Yes this is true and also there were 4 separate categories of “Coloured” at one point too the ones who were Muslim were called “Cape Malay” so Bo Kaap has a lot of Mosques there and there’s even a cemetery where some important Imams are buried. This part of Cape Town is so rich in history the colour of the houses part is only the tip of the iceberg. These days a lot of rich mostly white investors are buying the houses and the area is becoming gentrified and so the origins inhabitants are increasingly forced to move to other areas. Very sad.

This video is beautiful. From you, Tayo and your video editing and framing genius, to the beautiful scenery and abundance of greenery and nature. To the vines of the people. I hope the average people in Cape Town get to experience and appreciate these beauties. Because there's a tendency for these places to be out of the reach of the poor in the society. I'd love to visit some day.
