here's the quick answer. step 1. Remove it from the bike. step 2. throw it in the trash. step 3. buy after market suspension. step 4. watch Dave moss tuning videos .

Yes Dave you got there, finally working on the suspension of a real bike. The number of classic bike owners world wide is huge. Even modern big naked bikes Thanks mate

Bandit 1200 forks are damper rod but cap doesnt come off. It confused me for a while. Cartridge always have adjusters in my experience

Our trackside side guy really helped my ninja 650 fronts, new springs and emulator valve kit. Stock seemed dangerous even on the street, so much pogo.

Please provide me with some insight as well, I bought Ricor emulator for N650, so for track riding, do I need to put some extra oil than recommended as I am on a heavier side or not. How to setup perfectly?

Just went premium over at Dave Moss Tuning dot com and watched the complete video. I'm getting ready to make some changes to the suspension on my KLR and this information is invaluable. Now I know what to do with the old oil :)

Such great videos. What is your opinion on valve emulators or intiminators? I own a Honda Transalp 700VA 2010 and people claim great front suspension improvements with these.

In building street bikes with non adjustable forks I generally find the correct linear springs, spacer length, viscosity oil and height and all works exceptionally well. For track use or very aggressive street, the emulators are invaluable for hard braking in slowing/controlling the compression rate.

Most of my old damper-rod dirtbike forks have the option of adding some air pressure (I think manuals usually called for 0-15psi "as needed"). In adding air, would that typically act like additional spring rate, or more like preload? I can't imagine it has much effect on damping?
@cHAOs9
@cHAOs9 2 жыл бұрын
Additional springrate and preload are effectively the same thing right? (Igniring reduced travel)

What will happen if i increase more smaller hole in my damping rod?
@catalystreactionsbw

oil will flow faster and create move suspension movement for the rebound stroke and it will allow you to use an oil viscosity above stock eg: 5w to 15w.

Damn non adjustable forks! I currently have suzuki vz800 (cruiser bike) and service manual is saying that there is 140mm front wheel travel and i can barely reach half of that. Sometimes over a bumps it feels like i hit the wall and not the bump. I suppose someone before me put too much oil in it... So now it is at the mechanic for oil change and service manual says that it should be 838ml!!! each fork. So, if it happens that the forks are still not doing the job correctly can i try to play with oil level so i can make them reach full travel (not only half)?

Either too much oil, or a spring that is too long or too long a spacer/washer collection. Be thorough with your investigation one step at a time. If all measurements seem correct and you have 25-35mm of static sag, try 500ml to start.
