Strange to recommend the Mondeo Edge then say the interior is drab and basic. Why not recommend a Titanium which has a much better interior than both the Golf and Octavia. These reviews show why there's not much point in comparing cars from different classes.

but this mondeo is from 2007 ( 2010 renew) and octavia and golf are from 2013 .. so, for me, mondeo still better

Really strange to compare such a completely different car classes. Golf and Octavia are the same class as Focus, if you want to compare Mondeo, choose Superb and Passat.

The Mondeo is almost 7 years old though, the Golf and the Octavia are new cars. I have a Focus at the moment and I'm after an Octavia Mk3 for my next car, especially seeing that the elegance model they have there has a front heated screen! It will be interesting to see how the new Mondeo stacks up against it when it's released in a few months.

Five months ago I replaced a Seat Leon with a JX-Type 2.2D and its not served me ANY decent reliability for five months compared to five years of great trouble-free motoring from a Seat Leon FR (Golf GT in drag). I am soon to come back to VAG and possibly go for an Octavia.

2:04 - you know how much soft touch a Mondeo has? Right up to the windscreen, right down to the floor, wrapped around the ENTIRE centre console and even underneath the glove box. Don't also compare a 15,995 list price Mondeo with the others unless you opt for the touch screen nav.

I disagree completely. The Golf makes you feel posh because it is quieter, more nimble and more comfortable over rough surface. Obviously the other two are cheaper but then in the end the Golf is worth more in 5 years time.

Sorry but that comparison was only really for the skoda and ford. They are larger cars are for a different market to the golf. Golf should be put with the astra, focus, auris, i30 etc. You should of put the insignia in this comparison. The main run of mill cars here are volkswagon, ford and vauxhall.

An out dated soon to be replaced sub premium Mondeo, should not be in same comparison test, the Focus competes with the Golf an the Octviayawn

I can't wait to see the new shape Mondeo with the Aston Martin derived front. Ford will really have to work hard to make sure the new Mondeo equals or beats it's rivals. We need to see an excellent quality new Mondeo. Golf with that body isnt really best for family, the boot is much smaller. Should check estate version instead. Overall Skoda is the best option. But for family purpose, again estate/wagon version.

This is the daftest comparison ever, golf should not be here, it should be a passat because technically, due to the size of the car and the boot, the golf is too small to be compared to bigger hatchbacks that compete with saloons.

i found the old intererior and exterior of the mondeo much better then that of VW concern. But personally choosing 1.6 TDCi vs a big car as mondeo is a bad choice, at min 2.0 TDCi. but thats a matter of taste

A lot of Ford owners will talk rubbish and are not worth listening to. A Mondeo in drag can't even last me five months without aggro and a Golf in drag gave me five years of no aggro. Not to mention VAG have better qualities of interior which even the cheapest of VAG seem better screwed together then that of a Jaguar X Type. Better stereo's, a more solid feel, better reliabiliy, is calling me back to VAG not to mention VAG make cars which can handle speeds and don't tramline anywhere near as much as a Mondeo nor do they steer into ruts or sunken drain covers. As much as I like my Xtype VAG build the better cars and as soon as I have the money Im going back
