In this video, we talk about what cards are in my wallet for the start of 2024. Everyone's credit card setup will be slightly different, but the 5 credit cards in this video work the best for me. These credit cards may not be the best for you, particularly if you are on team cash back, but if you're on team travel, I would highly consider some if not all of these cards!

Just for the debit card if anyone is looking, I believe Bankwest comes with a default debit card that has 0% international transaction fees and 0 foreign ATM fees

You can also use Macquarie which is better as no fees and good interest rate. Bankwest also offers platinum zero, zero fees, zero rewards though.

Hey Mate, thank you for the content! It's crazy I voluntarily retook my iPad to take a note after coming out from uni ages ago haha One question is this, do you reckon using an AMEX essential card for grocery shopping is worth it? Or should I change it to a bit more higher tier, such as Platinum edge, or is there any card suggestion for general use? And should I even use the credit card for the general woolies and Coles purchases? + What about the subscriptions such as Spotify? Should I use the AMEX for it as well? My Ultimate goal is to get those sweet AMEX points that I can use to book my hotels like Intercontinental or Hilton.

Hey mate, if you're looking to earn AMEX points you're best bet is to go for the AMEX Explorer. It has the signup bonus of 50K points, whereas if you go with the Essential Card there's no sign-up bonus at all. Definitely use your AMEX card for all of your daily shopping as there's no additional fees, subscriptions etc. are all fine too!

The five cards I have in my wallet: AmEx Gold, Chase Freedom Unlimited, Chase Business Ink Cash, AmEx Blue Business Plus and I am applying for the Chase Sapphire Preferred (as my fifth). I am also getting the AmEx Platinum in the near future (when the SUB is > 100,000).

It has a lot of great features, probably the bank with the best mobile UI but the only thing letting it down for me is the low interest rate offered. That's why I opt for UBank as they have similar features and a great UI but a more competitive interest rate.

Does Amex still require you to pay your monthly expenditure within the month?

You'll receive up to 55 days worth of interest free days on all purchases. It's always recommended to pay off your statement balance in full every month otherwise you'll begin to be charged interest. Of course it's not mandatory, you can pay less just that you'd begin to be charged interest.

Hi Raymond, with your points strategy, after a period of time after closing a card would you be able to open the same card again and get a sign up bonus?

Hey mate, after 12-18 months (depending on the card) you can open up the same card and receive the sign up bonus again!

As a Westpac employee, I got the altitude black card with no annual fee but also no sign up bonus points. Is this really a benefit? Should I pair this with an Amex card?

I wouldn't say it's that big of a benefit since there wasn't a sign up bonus! AMEX is my recommendation if you're looking for travel rewards!

Hey, for the ING card. What does it mean by increase the balance each month? Meaning as long as my savings keeps going up ?

Yes, I usually just transfer $1 to the Savings Maximiser account at the start of the month

Hey mate, if you have a mortgage already then it depends on how much you've already borrowed as to whether or not you'll be approved. If you're close to your max borrowing capacity then you'll likely be declined, but if you're a few years in with decent equity I think you have a solid chance of being approved.

do you always lose points when you have to transfer your points from your old credit card to your new credit card?

If you don't open a new card then you'll end up losing your AMEX reward points if you don't spend them.

Hey man, honestly the number of enquiries doesn't matter too much. It's your overall score that matters, if your score is currently in a healthy state then go ahead and apply for a new card! I make around 4 new enquiries per year as a reference and my credit score is excellent!

I think you probably just get lucky.. my last few calls with ANZ was NO PRO RATA, NO REFUND. NAB offered pro-rata previously until last year..
